1 PURPOSE
Purpose of this method statement is to outline the se2uences and methods of
3orks intended to (e used for the e#cavation of trench for laing underground 33
k4 po3er5 67.
!he *ontractor has the right to adapt the methods of e#ecution as contained in this
document from time to time and modif as necessar according to specific site
conditions.

4 METHOD STATEMENT
4.1 SURVEY
4.1.1 7(tain route approval as re2uired8 prior to start of 3ork.
4.1.2 *onduct Site surve8 esta(lish ca(le route8 and demarcate the trench at
Site.
4.2 TRIAL PITS (EXPLORATORY EXCAVATION)
4.2.1 7(tain 3ork permit0?7* from various authorities 5 @>s .uilt@ dra3ings
sho3ing all e#isting services.
4.2.2 Set up site8 marked areas to (e e#plored at 111 meters interval or as ma
(e re2uired and also near the e#isting identified services8 and fi# 3ith
3arning tape 0 safet cones.
4.2.4 Intimate "tisalat0 &efense0 the concerned departments prior to e#posing
their related services
4.2.' Start manual digging using pick:a#e 3ithout sharp edges and hand
shovel.
4.2.) Aook in for an 3arning signs 0 3arning tape 0 ca(le tiles that might prop
up during e#cavation and take necessar precautions 3hile digging.

4.2.- Protect the services as per specified recommendations.

4.4 TRENCH EXCAVATION
4.4.1 Set out and mark the e#act line of ca(le route as per approved dra3ings
and the o(tain ?7*0 Permission to Work.
4.4.2 "#cavation is carried out using a mechanical e#cavator. In areas 3here
usage of e#cavator is unsafe 0 not possi(le8 the trench is made through
manual digging.

and approved.
4.).2 &rums shall (e placed on a pair of stand and shaft to provide smooth
rolling 3hile pulling.
4.).3 !he direction of rotation of *a(le drum for moving of ca(le drum or laing
of ca(le 3ill (e strictl as per the arro3s marked on the ca(le drums.
4.).4 Set Winch properl and securel fi# to the re2uired distance.
4.).' In order to prevent ca(le damage during pulling operation8 ca(le rollers
shall (e placed at ma#imum 2 mtrs intervals as per re2uirement of clause
no.4.2.4 of >&W"> standards S:*>.:I?S!:DE8 !he distance (et3een
the rollers shall (e maintained and 3ell fi#ed. >ppropriate corner rollers
3ill (e provided as re2uired.
4.).) Special o(servance and care 3ill (e taken 3hen pulling in areas 3ith
corners8 through road crossings and through e#isting ducts.
4.).+ *heck ca(le ducts for de(ris and sharp edges and clean the ducts if
necessar.

eas pulling 3hen entering ca(le ducts if necessar.

4.).11 Perform sheath test 5 meggering on laid ca(le prior to 9ointing and (ack
filling as per specification re2uirement. Sheath test shall (e conducted (

armour and the e#ternal graphite surface of the sheath for one minute8

Soil !hermal resistivit 5 temperature of (ackfilling material shall (e
measured as per re2uirement of clause no.3 f of >&W"> standards S:

!he .ackfilling material should have a ma#imum thermal resistivit of 121
cm2 *0W under operational conditions 5 shall (e chemicall neutral as
per re2uirement of clause no. 3 e of >&W"> standards S:*>.:I?S!:DE.
Special (edding material shall (e used as per re2uirement of clause
no.4.2.+ of >&W"> standards S:*>.:I?S!:DE8 3here the thermal
resistivit of natural soil e#ceeds 121 cm2 *0W.
4.-.1 !he "ngineer:*onsultant 0 73ner:*lient ma conduct inspections prior to
sand covering 0 installation of 3arning tapes 0 final (ack filling 0 installation
of ca(le route markers to keep the continuit 5 progress of the 3ork.
4.-.2 Installed ca(les shall (e covered 3ith selected fine sand upto the level of
3arning tape as re2uired in >&W"> dra3ing no. >&W"> 11 11 1+.
!he protection tiles for 33 F4 ca(le trench shall (e '11 mm length8 2'1
mm 3idth 5 concrete grade is *3' 3ith cement tpe 4 <SR*=8 min
cement content 3+1 kg0m38 all edges to (e chamfered 5 name to (e fi#ed
on each protection tile as per the specification.
Protection tiles for M4 5 A4 ca(les shall (e '11 mm length8 211 mm 3idth
5 )1 mm thickness.

*a(le Route 5 ,oint markers shall (e installed for each po3er ca(le
circuits. *a(le route markers shall (e installed on straight route at
distances not e#ceeding 31M and at the points 3here the ca(le route
makes a turn and (oth side of road crossings. >nd 9oint marker shall (e
installed on top of 9ointing to mark the location of the 9oint. >ll ca(le route
5 9oint markers shall (e made of reinforced concrete and of truncated
cone tpe as per approved >&W"> specification.
4.11 TESTIN$ / COMMISSIONIN$

restricted to authori%ed persons onl.
4.11.4 "nsure that valid 5 cali(rated test e2uipments are availa(le at the test
area.
4.11.' $4 hand gloves and $4 grounding sticks shall (e provided for safe
handling and draining of voltage residue.
4.11.) Make the ca(le ends at (oth ends read for testing ( removing '11 mm
long graphite coating from the ca(le.
4.11.+ Short3ave communication sstem shall (e in place prior to
commencement of testing.

ca(le at the non:testing end.
