Technician. Ric works full

reading, watching football
(Go Steelers!) and

Susan Guinn-
Lahm, MA, CRC, LPC
Susan is a native of Ajo, AZ
where she works as the
Lead Behavioral Health
Clinician at Desert Senita
Community Health Center
(DSCHC). Susan provide
general mental health
counseling services,
specializing in patient’s
behavioral changes to
compliment their medical
treatment.

Innovative way to bring awareness to Dating Violence
Paradise Valley Community
College Instructor, Ana
Trejo, in an effort to bring
awareness to dating
violence at a real life level,
assigned Kaity’s Way to her
students of the Marriage
and Family classes that she
teaches on Mondays and
Wednesdays.
The assignment was to
explore and study the
Kaity’s Way website, review
media coverage and
research to gain an
understanding for Kaity’s
Law. If the students had
any questions or comments
they were to email Kaity’s
Way directly. The final part
of the assignment was to
reflect on what they learned
and write about it.
Divine Group hears Kaity’s Story
A New Leaf of Glendale, AZ
invited Kaity’s Way to share
Kaity’s Story with the young
people of Divine Group, a
Teen Building Self Esteem
and Self Efficiency program,
on November 10, 2009. This
wonderful program is geared
toward empowering young
people of today by building
self esteem and efficiency so
they can make informed and
appropriate choices in
everyday life.
There were eight in
attendance, including two
P.E.A.C.E
Kaity’s Way received many
positive responses from the
students of Ms. Trejo’s
classes, as well as some
very good questions. The
participation by the
students was phenomenal.
According to Ms. Trejo,
“this was the most moving
and emotional assignment I
have had for my Marriage
and Family class. As
students emailed me their
homework, it was obvious
that they were moved and
more aware about the issue
of domestic violence. Most
students really don't know
the extent of abuse and had
not considered "verbal
abuse" actual abuse. Many
also shared that they had
actually been in or was
program leaders. The group
was very responsive and
involved in the presentation,
as were the leaders. They
asked excellent questions
and shared some of their
own experiences and
examples.
The survey responses were
very positive and the
message appeared to be
received by the group. Some
very heartfelt responses to
the question, “Do you have
any suggestions for the
speaker of Kaity’s Story?”

Kaity's Way out there for
people to go on.”
Ms. Trejo’s ground breaking
idea has certainly brought
awareness to a segment of
one of the largest dating
communities. Kaity’s Way
encourages any and all
educators to consider
utilizing Kaity’s Way in this
manner. If you have any

Susan Guinn-Lahm Delivers Kaity’s Story
The Las Artes GED class
sponsored by the
International Sonoran
Desert Alliance, as part of
their economic
development initiative, of
Ajo, AZ heard Kaity’s Story
from Susan Guinn-Lahm,
with the assistance of Jewel
Clearwater and Morgana
Wallace, GED Teacher, on
October 21, 2009.
The presentation lasted
approximately an hour
including a brief Q&A
period. All nine students in
attendance filled out a
survey of which eight
answered yes to the
question, “Do you know or
have you known anyone in
an abusive relationship?”

February 1, 2010. We are in
need of 3 more items valued
between $300 - $800.

Kaity’s Way Volunteer Support
Cookie Lee Party
Kaity’s Way volunteer,
Lauren, her roommate and
friend Miranda, hosted a
Cookie Lee Jewelry Party in
an effort to raise funds for
Kaity’s Way on November
22, 2009 at their home.
When they found out that
fifty percent of the profit of
sales could go to Kaity’s
Way, they couldn’t resist.
They took full initiative, set
the date, planned the party
and sent out invitations via
email and Facebook.
As many as 15 people
attended and ordered.
Anyone that has had a
Yard Sale Fundraisers in Ajo & Phoenix
Ajo might be a small town
in southern Arizona, but it is
mighty when it comes to
supporting a good cause.

items to sell at the Yard

out to see what the Kaity’s
Way Yard Sale, hosted by
Susan Guinn-Lahm, had to
offer. In doing so, many
found and purchased items
that were donated and

Walk to End Domestic
Violence
November 7, 2009
Kaity’s Way was present
and accounted for 14 times
over at the Walk to End
Domestic Violence.
Fourteen people from
Joyce and John Harchank
of Litchfield Park, AZ
donated many pieces of
Peruvian pottery. They
delivered it to the Ajo Yard
Sale and that which was left
over was transported to the
Phoenix Yard Sale for sale.
The Phoenix Yard Sale had
lots of competition in the
area as one volunteer
reported seeing nearly 30
other yard sales going on
within a 5 mile radius.
Nonetheless, the Phoenix
Yard sale held their ground.

raised funds and
represented. This is an
impressive turnout for our
first year as a team! Those
that walked with the Kaity’s
Way team said it was a
great day for a walk and
had a good time.

Salsa Update
Mario Juarez reports the
Lets Learn to Dance Salsa
Fundraiser is going very
well. Several have stated
they are having lots of fun,
while getting a good
workout. They cannot
believe how fast the time
goes.
The Ajo and Phoenix Yard
Sales combined raised over
$1000. For this Kaity’s Way
sincerely says THANK YOU

that came out in support of
Kaity’s Way and the
communities.
