Introduction

Dutch-Bangla Bank is the first bank in Bangladesh to be fully automated and introduce
Electronic Banking. The automation was completed in 200! but further additions and features
are continuously being added and upgraded. DBB" has adopted the same e#act automation
solution used my many international banking giants. $lthough this was significantly more
e#pensi%e than other solutions! it is a small price to pay for a client&s peace of mind.
$ DBB" client now has unri%aled access to banking from any DBB" branch! $T' and ()*. $ll
of these ser%ices are free-of-charge and are surprisingly affordable for e%eryone. E%en though
DBB" has in%ested more in Electronic Banking more than any other bank! the di%ision was
ne%er intended to be profitable. It was undertaken with the same mindset DBB" undertakes its
+orporate *ocial ,esponsibility tasks. This is why you pay barely nothing e%en though these
same ser%ices would cost you much more in other countries and other banks. -e%er has any bank
gi%en so much for free.
DBB" also has the largest $T' network in Bangladesh. This gi%es DBB" clients full access to
&anytime anywhere& banking nationwide. $ll international and many local banks use the DBB"
$T' network for their own clients. DBB" has installed o%er .00 $T's nationwide. $s with
most things! $T' access to all DBB" $T's is unlimited and free for all DBB" clients. If a
client of a member bank /not DBB"0 uses a DBB" $T'! the member bank may add a
transaction charge.DBB" has the largest IT budget in Bangladesh. DBB" maintains the state-of-
the-art Electronic-Banking Di%ision. The Electronic-Banking Di%ision o%ersees and maintains
DBB"&s in%estment as well as implementing upcoming pro1ects. DBB" is the only local bank to
ha%e a off-site Data ,eco%ery *ite /D,*0. D,* ensures that customer records are safe! backed-
up! and up to date in the e%ent of a ma1or catastrophe at the Electronic-Banking Di%ision
head2uarters. *ince 2003! DBB" has introduced mobile and *'* banking. 4ith a mobile phone!
customers can perform many banking operations with their phone. DBB" is a primary license
holder for both 5I*$ and 'astercard. It is authori6ed to issue and accept payments from both
organi6ations. DBB" also works closely with both organi6ations to bring you the latest in card
technology. DBB" also offer 5isa and 'astercard Debit +ards.
7istory
Dutch-Bangla Bank started operation is Bangladesh&s first 1oint %enture bank. The bank was an
effort by local shareholders spearheaded by ' *ahabuddin $hmed /founder chairman0 and the
Dutch company 8').8rom the onset! the focus of the bank has been financing high-growth
manufacturing industries in Bangladesh. The rationale being that the manufacturing sector
e#ports Bangladeshi products worldwide. Thereby financing and concentrating on this sector
allows Bangladesh to achie%e the desired growth. DBB"&s other focus is +orporate *ocial
,esponsibility /+*,0. E%en though +*, is now a clich9! DBB" is the pioneer in this sector and
termed the contribution simply as &social responsibility&. Due to its in%estment in this sector!
DBB" has become one of the largest donors and the largest bank donor in Bangladesh. The bank
has won numerous international awards because of its uni2ue approach as a socially conscious
bank. DBB" was the first bank in Bangladesh to be fully automated. The Electronic-Banking
Di%ision was established in 2002 to undertake rapid automation and bring modern banking
ser%ices into this field. 8ull automation was completed in 200 and hereby introduced plastic
money to the Bangladeshi masses. DBB" also operates the nation&s largest $T' fleet and in the
process drastically cut consumer costs and fees by .0:. 'oreo%er! DBB" choosing the low
profitability route for this sector has surprised many critics. DBB" had pursued the mass
automation in Banking as a +*, acti%ity and ne%er intended profitability from this sector. $s a
result it now pro%ides unri%aled banking technology offerings to all its customers. Because of
this mindset! most local banks ha%e 1oined DBB"&s banking infrastructure instead of pursuing
their own. E%en with a history of hefty technological in%estments and e%en larger donations!
consumer and in%estor confidence has ne%er waned. Dutch-Bangla Bank stock set the record for
the highest share price in the Dhaka *tock E#change in 200..
Mission
