Academics Measuring the Success of Each Student At Imagine Schools, we recognize that there are no standardized students. All children have unique abili- ties and needs. Imagine teachers design their instruction to enable each student to be a successful learner. Our schools offer a variety of academic programs and elec- tives, such as Project Child, MicroSociety, International Baccalaureate, Core Knowledge, and an environmental science focus, to enhance the core academic subjects. All children have gifts and skills waiting to be developed, and at Imagine Schools, educators guide our students to help them make signifcant academic strides. We evaluate academic achievement primarily by mea- suring each students learning gains, which show how much a student learns from the beginning of the school year to the end. Tests at the beginning of the year en- able teachers to differentiate their instruction to chal- lenge and help each student, whether that student is advanced or catching up in a particular subject. Testing again at year-end shows how far each student advanced during the school year, which is an important measure to celebrate academic growth and to evaluate the perfor- mance of each teacher and school. Last year, 69 out of 71 Imagine campuses exceeded average nationwide public school math and reading learning gains based on the Stanford 10 Achievement Test. These results show that Imagine students across the nation are being helped to realize their full academic potential. Character formation begins with the adults on each campus. It is taught, modeled, and integrated into every aspect of the school day. On each Imagine campus, teachers, staff, and students work to create a caring community where each person is valued and treated with respect, and where it is safe to make mistakes and learn from them. We make time to talk about what it means to live as people of character, set goals for how we can improve, and refect on how were doing. Students learn by collaborating, leading, making decisions, and taking responsibility for those decisions. Growth and Diversity Imagine Schools is the nations largest and fastest growing charter school organization, with 3,500 teachers and staff and approximately 40,000 students nationwide. A peer review team provides the school and governing board with a comprehensive report citing areas of strength and opportunities for improvement. Additionally, our campuses are graded annually in each of our Measures of Excellence. Most campuses pursue accreditation through state and regional independent education organizations.
