The effects of War on Human Societies

Wars break out for various reasons. There are wars between countries or nations and within the
nation. The latter is generally known as a civil war and can occur as a result of differences based on
race, religion, socio-economic dissatisfaction among others. Whether wars are waged between
countries (interstate) or inside the country between different sections of the communities, the effects
are very damaging.
ccording to e!"erts, the main reasons or factors that contribute to wars are human greed for wealth
and intolerance towards the other. #any world leaders in fact believe that the main reason merica
invaded $ra% was for its oil wealth. Hundreds of thousands of innocent $ra%i civilians as well as
merican and $ra%i soldiers have been killed, in&ured or maimed. 'uring the eight-year war
between $ran and $ra% in the ()*+s, there were more than ( million casualty figures with millions
in&ured. The attack on the merican World Trade ,entre on (( Se"tember -++( killed close to three
thousand "eo"le and the subse%uent re"risal on fghanistan by merican forces killed thousands of
"eo"le in that country. World War ( and World (( combined have claimed millions of lives and in
the frican continent, tribal wars and regional wars continue to occur.
The civil war between the Hutus and Tutsis in .wanda tad claimed more than / million lives and in
the 'emocratic .e"ublic of ,ongo, more than / million "eo"le have died due to conflict between
warlords. #any countries es"ecially in frica are still embroiled in tragic wars.
The effects of war are both "hysical and "sychological. Human societies are dee"ly affected by
wars as residential areas, "ublic infrastructure, hos"itals and the very basis of human e!istence are
destroyed. #alaysia too e!"erienced war when it was once occu"ied by the 0a"anese and "eo"le
faced many hardshi"s and challenges to meet their basis needs. The 0a"anese only surrendered
when the unconventional wea"ons or better known as nuclear wea"ons were used on Hiroshima and
1agasaki which took thousands of lives and maimed as well cri""led thousands of "eo"le e!"osed
to radiation. Thankfully, most warring nations still use conventional wea"ons like grenades, rockets
and otters which do not inflict that kind of damage as nuclear wea"ons.
Wars bring untold miseries as well as "olitical and economic instability. 2eo"le3s lives and daily
e!istence come under threat. $t would be difficult to find &obs or live our normal day-to-day
e!istence. 2o"ulations are dis"laced and have to constantly move about for security. What is
ha""ening in 'arfur, Sudan is a dire reflection of the tragedy wars bring. Some are scarred
emotionally and "hysically for life.
Thus, humans must avoid wars at all cost. The only way we can "rotect our lives and ensure
stability in our country is to "ractice tolerance and res"ect for each otter. 4r else, we too would
become e!tinct like the dinosaurs5
