HECTOR RAMIREZ

Community Representation and Leadership, with Honesty and

Responsibility
Hector Ramirez was born on April 3, 1955 in El Seibo, Dominican Republic and came to the Bronx in 1995, where
he has lived, worked and raised his family. A passionate community activist, Ramirez started his public service at a
young age in the Dominican Republic, as part of the student movement, charitable organizations and later as a
professional accountant, heading the Ethics Committee for the National Dominican Accountants Association.

Over the past 15 years, Ramirez has expanded his political involvement in The Bronx to reflect his passion for
community service, working in partnership with grassroots organizations and elected officials to demand more living
wage jobs, health care, education and affordable housing to one of the poorest areas in the nation.

In 2002, Ramirez was elected to the 86th Assembly as District Leader where he has been re-elected three times. As
district Leader, Ramirez has served a densely populated area encompassing University Heights, Tremont, and the
Morris Heights section of the Bronx, as a non-paid liaison for the community to government agencies, elected and
Democratic Party officials and community organizations. His hard work has earned Ramirez a reputation as an
honest and responsible leader.

District Leader Hector Ramirez is currently a member of the Executive Board of the Bronx Democratic Party and
served as Vice Chairman of the Department of Youth and Community Development Neighborhood Advisory Board
No. 5.

Ramirez earned his BA in accounting from the O&M University in 1985, in the Dominican Republic and a Master’s
degree in business administration from Monroe College, in New York. As a result of his own experience in
community involvement, District Leader Hector Ramirez has been an inspiration to the minority communities he
serves. His example is one of empowerment in The Bronx, as he opens the doors to new generations of activists in
the struggle for justice and equity in issues ranging from domestic violence to the protection and expansion of small
businesses. Ramirez is also committed to fighting for minority, and immigrant, civil and economic rights. He has
been actively involved in fighting street crime and gang violence in cooperation with the community and local
authorities.

Why is Honorable Hector Ramirez running for the State Assembly District 86? Because currently the district lack of
effective experienced, compassionate, involved, transparent and hands on leadership. He will bring integrity,
honesty and responsibility the people of our district need in Albany.

Through his work in the community, Hector Ramirez has seen first hand the crucial needs surrounding the
neighborhoods of University Heights, Tremont, Morris Heights, and Fordham. He understands that we need honest,
responsible and effective leadership to give these impoverished sections of the Bronx strong representation in
Albany. He will bring back the respect and meaningful change that the district deserves to move forward and get
the necessary resources.

Ramirez is married to Milagros Ramirez. They have four children: Hector Joel, 22, Jennifer Patricia, 21, both
attending college, Alex, 19, currently in his second year with the US Marines, and Daniel, 14, who is attending high
school in the Bronx.
