Projects

Undergraduate 2006
Time Modulated Linear Antenna Array with Optimized Amplitude Distribution and Time Sequences
Outline: This is to realize variable amplitude time modulated linear arrays with both suppressed
sidelobes and sidebands. In conventional antenna arrays we give excitation to all antennas in array
simultaneously, whereas here we give excitation to selected antennas at a certain instant of time and
the time sequence is optimized using Simple Genetic Algorithm (SGA). The approach saves power
as all antennas are not excited at the same time, also results a low Side Lobe Level (SLL) and low
Side Band Level (SBL).

Graduate 2008
Self Organization of Wireless Sensor Networks
Outline: A sensor network is defined as being composed of a large number of nodes which are de-
ployed densely in close proximity to the phenomenon to be monitored. Each of these nodes collects
data and its purpose is to route this information back to a sink. The network must possess self-
organizing capabilities since the positions of individual nodes are not predetermined. Cooperation
among nodes is the dominant feature of this type of network, where groups of nodes cooperate to
disseminate the information gathered in their vicinity to the user. The purpose of Self Organization
is to form the network out of the nodes that are deployed in a region meeting some performance
objectives, e.g. Low power consumption, high throughput, accurate localizing capabilities etc. In
this work we have provided a mathematical formalization of a widely used approximation of pro-
portionality between Euclidean Distance and Hop Count, and depending on that theory, proposed a
new node localization algorithm, that is shown to perform better than other localization algorithms.
