Description: Duplex (two sided) folding brochure.

Date: July 12, 2014
Course/Instructor: COMM 130--Emily Kunz
Programs/Tools: Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator
Objectives: Set up and align a two-sided, folded document.
Create an original company logo in Illustrator and use it in a brochure.
Incorporate quality images. (Incorporate at least four quality images (Not including the logo).
One image clipped in Photoshop and text-wrapped in InDesign so the text follows the cutout
shape of the image. Write at least 250 words of original copy with at least three paragraphs,
headers, and subheaders. Trim for a full bleed and print in duplex (two-sided) color.
Process: My brochure process began in Adobe Illustrator with the creation of an original
logo. I designed a logo that would be easy to recognize even as a watermark. After saving
the logo I imported it into InDesign to create my brochure.
I created a trifold brochure with 55 inch panels. Initally the brochure was set up as a two
page document, landscape style. Knowing that I wanted it 55 I only needed half of the page,
I set ruler guides throughout the document dividing up each page that followed the measure-
ments I needed. Additionally, I added 5 margin guides to stay within. The design of the bro-
chure was elegant and trendy. I decided to go with a timeless pattern and add more current
elements such as a popular color scheme.
After deciding on the pattern and color scheme, I added the photos and placed them in their
designed locations. I organized space for each element in my design. I edited as needed, mak-
ing adjustments to the design layout as necessary.
In Photoshop I altered some of the photos including the photo with a full wrap. This element
created the dynamic that I wanted; marrying photography and explanation together. I used
all three Adobe programs from start to fnish in the creation of this brochure and loved it!

Discription: Create a new logo and implement it into stationary.
Date: June 13, 2014
Course/Instructor: COMM 130 --Emily Kunz
Programs/Tools: Adobe Illustrator
Objectives: Use The basic tools of Illustrator & InDesign.
Create a new logo to ft a company or personal image. Do not imitate existing logos or use your
previous designs. Design consistent layouts for a business card and letterhead. Use your new logo
to design two stationery items with consistent design. Letterhead: 8.5 x 11 (full-bleed optional, but
trim only .125). Apply typography rules keeping small copy. Learning to keep thing simple by hav-
ing watermarks and drop shadows light and white space.Applying contact information: Include
name, address, phone, and email on each piece. Use periods, bullets, or spaces in phone #.
Process: I used Adobe Illustrator and InDesign to create this photography logo. I started out
by creating a new document with the measurements that ft my projects needs. Then I used the
shape tool in Illustrator to manipulate a circle into a pergola type shape. After creating the orig-
inal shape I used the Alt button to duplicate the shape to create a pattern as a background for
the whole project. I created the logo by using a script typeface that was decorative and stately.
I enlarged the S as a separate shape and then added the rest of Shannon. Next came marrying
photography as part of the logo in a san serif type. For the letterhead I placed the logo on the top
of the patter and centered it for balance. I framed the pattern and logo with trim that included
contact information.

Objectives: Use The basic tools of Illustrator & InDesign. Create a new logo to ft a company
or personal image. Do not imitate existing logos or use your previous designs. (Dont use photos or
live trace in your new logo). Design consistent layouts for a business card and letterhead. Use your
new logo to design two stationery items with consistent design. (Photos are okay on stationery.)

on a vertical page). Apply typography rules keeping small copy. Learning to keep thing simple by
having watermarks and drop shadows light and white space.Applying contact information: Include

No parentheses/ hyphens.
Process: I used Adobe Illustrator and InDesign to create this photography logo. I started out by
creating a new document with the measurements that ft my projects needs. Ten I used the shape
tool in Illustrator to manipulate a circle into a pergola type shape. Afer creating the original shape I
used the Alt button to duplicate the shape to create a pattern as a background for the whole project. I
created the logo by using a script typeface that was decorative and stately. I enlarged the S as a sepa-
rate shape and then added the rest of Shannon. Next came marrying photography as part of the logo
in a san serif type.
For the matching stationary I continued the pergola pattern for the top of the page and placed the
logo on top of it at center. I framed the pattern and logo with trim that included contact information.
Tese steps included the same color scheme and typeface.
Description: One shape, one typefont, and one symbol logos created for the same company.
Date: 3/2/13
Course/Instructor: COMM 130--Emily Kunz
Programs/Tools: Adobe Illustrator and InDesign
Objectives: Create three completely diferent, original logos to ft a company or personal image
that will appeal to the audience. Do not imitate existing logos or use your previous designs.
Use only the tools to create and draw your logos. (No Illustrator pre-fab fares, symbols, etc.. No
photos or auto live-tracing. You may use an image or drawing as a guide to trace it with the pen/
pencil, but delete the image before submitting.)
Gather opinions from at least ten outside sources about which logo appeals most to them.
Process: I was excited to use my creative side! I had a lot of fun playing of the color scheme for
my frst logo. I used Illustrator to create, crop, and color circles. Ten I used the pathfnder tool to
separate the center of the joined circles. In the frst logo I feel the journey from blue to yellow pulled
your focus in naturally. I started out my making two circles and combining them thought that the
center should be the color between blue and yellow. I added a line underneath the title for polish
and fow. For my second logo I decided to use circles to share the message about what the company
was all about. I used many circles of diferent sized to create a foot. I didnt want the logo centered
so I chose to have the foot fall into the right third of the logo for interest. Last, my last logo is type
logo. Te word REHAB is decorative on purpose to illustrate the plans that are drawn up to help
patients individually. Rehab Systems is an amazing place that gives hope and renewed comfort and
abilities to those who need prosthetics or orthotics.

Description:This is a new and fresh inspirational montage poster using a composition of

images and type. A photo montage is a combination of two or more photos blended together with
text. For this montage I used two pictures I took at a recent shoot.
Date: May 30, 2014
Course/Instructor:COMM 130 --Emily Kunz
Programs/Tools: Adobe Photoshop, Nikon D5200
Objectives: Use the FOCUS design process with strong focal point and fow
Unify a layout with a consistent theme and dominant message
Learn to blend two or more images together gradually, using masks
Demonstrate more advanced Photoshop skills for layout with multiple elements
Use a mask to apply a flter to one part of the image
Apply typography principles (titles, quotes, events or scripturesyour choice)
Format type: Legibility; Small copy & Title with varying text size. Theme word(s)
Select good quality images
Process: I used my Nikon D5200 camera with 50 mm lense to capture this couple. In PS I used
a combination of masking to blend the two pictures together. With alternating opacity and shad-
ing I concealed the edges where the two pictures came together. Some of the tools I used were
the stroke tool, flter, brush and added text after placing the images in a positive composition. I
struggled a little with agonizing over detail after detail but in the end was very happy with the
results
Description: An exciting 8.511 landscape photo design, using a photo taken at the Idaho
State Penitentiary. This project was created and edited in Photoshop and has a
full bleed design.
Date: May 23, 2014
Course/Instructor: Comm 130--Emily Kunz
Programs/Tools: Adobe Photoshop
Objectives:Learn basic photography skills.Choose a color scheme, take a photo to
match those colors, then incorporate the colors into the layout. Use a digital camera to take a
quality image, then download it. Adjust image levels, saturation, color balance, sharpen tool
on separate layers for NDE (non-destructive editing.) Size and crop the image, then place on
an 8.511 page layout. Use layers to design text, and repeating graphic elements in Photoshop.
Print with full-bleed margins. Trim only 1/8 (0.125) from all four sides.
Process: The design began by taking a picture that spoke to me and implementing it into
a design. I edited the picture minimally by lighting some of the darker shades. Then I found
the colors that I wanted using a color picker to bring out colors from the photo and sat down
to sketch out my ideas. I loved the old world feel to this picture and felt that so much beauty
is often overlooked. The quote for the design brought out the overlooked beauty of things
that enhance our lives such as diffcult days and radiators. I wanted ethereal feel to the de-
sign, focusing on the light, so I increased the opacity of everything else.

Description: An exciting color advertisement to promote raising funds for a non-proft using
Microsoft Word and scanned images. Some of the design in this project has a full bleed for a differ-
ent affect.
Date: May 15, 2014
Course/Instructor:COMM 130 --Emily Kunz
Programs/Tools: Microsoft Word
Objectives: Comprehend image sizing (how pixels and inches work together) Find, scan and
import a high-quality image. Create a full-bleed design. Choose a color scheme and typeface(s) that
work for your message and audience. Learn to use only Word design features without using any
Adobe programs, including Photoshop.
Process: My process started out with scanning an image into a document in Word. In the be-
ginning I had diffculty getting a magazine image to scan to a professional level of clarity. I went
through a few images to fnd the right one. After that I found it fairly simple to create a fyer in
Microsoft Word. The only drawback was that I found I relied on the ruler for alignment but it wasnt
as exact as InDesign. I feel confded that I could produce a design in Word that an employer would
be happy with and it excites me!

Description: My web page was designed to showcase my personally created logo and
HTML/CSS skills.

Course/Instructor: COMM 130--Emily Kunz
Programs/Tools: Notepad++
Objectives: Size and optimize an original logo as a .png for a web page so the long side is
300 500 pixels.Write content to describe the process of creating your logo and how it appeals to
a target audience. Design a web page using HTML to display the logo and content.. With in the
body include h1, h2, p, ol or ul (with li tags)img, hr, and a (link to blog) tags.)
Acquire a working knowledge of CSS. (Customize the Cascading Style Sheet (css) provided in
I-Learn to add page formatting that complements the logo design, by changing at least the follow-
ing: The h1 text color & background color, font colors for the paragraphs & list items, the back-
ground color, Font Families and add at least one css comment.
Process: My webpage was created using Note++, I also studied tutorials from code acade-
my. This is my introduction to web building and I found writing HTML/CSS code thrilling. I have
learned that validating my code is invaluable to the process of building a web page so that what
I want to show is translated on the web.I created new tags in my HTML document so I could
edit and style in CSS. After setting up my code and inserting my logo, I pulled elements from my
design into my webpage. I used the eyedropper to maintain consistency with color, matching each
colors code. I used Note++ and Photoshop to complete this project in addition to the W3schools.

munications for high school graduates.
Date:May 8, 2014
Course/Instructor:COMM 130--Emily Kunz
Programs/Tools: Adobe InDesign
Objectives: Apply the design principles and use appropriate typography. Incorporate basic InDe-
sign skills to improve basic fier layout. Retrieve image and logo from links on this page.
Create a project folder with image, logo and InDesign document to keep links in InDesign intact.
Process: I started out by sketching different ideas that would emphasize the information. I used Ado-
be InDesign to create a layout of the fier, guided by my sketch work. My goal was to draw attention to
title by using size as a contrast. The use of white space draws attention to the copy for more informa-
tion. Additionally, image, logo, and content were given to me to use in the fier.
