The Experience Record Book The purpose of the Practical Training scheme as defined in Article 3(ii) of the Periti Act is to ensure that those entering the profession have had sufficient experience to fit them for their immediate duties and responsibilities !t is based on the premise that "learning b# doing$ is an essential complement to academic learning% and that certain attitudes and values are best ac&uired against the practical background of a perit's office The Experience Record Book is an integral part of this process The Experience Record Book issued b# the (arranting Board is the onl# approved medium for presentation of a record of the student's activities during his Practical Training period !t is designed to be firstl# a check list for both student and emplo#er to ensure that as broad an experience as possible is obtained b# the candidates for )arrant% and secondl# to be an easil# assessed record b# the (arranting Board !n addition to the Experience Record Book% candidates are encouraged to keep a diar# listing tasks carried out dail#% )hich ma# be useful as a reminder )hen &uestioned b# the Board !t is also advisable to maintain a portfolio of )ork carried out during the training period to sho) to the Board Examinations shall be held once ever# &uarter Practical Training must include the activities listed in the Experience Record Book The record of practical training must be signed monthl# b# the perit responsible for supervising the candidate's training The (arranting Board% at its discretion% ma# call supervising periti to discuss a candidate's performance over the Practical Training period The Experience Record Book is being issued in an electronic format to make it easier for candidates to record and keep track of their experience and to enable each candidate to identif# in )hich areas the# still re&uire training The Experience Record Book identifies three main areas of training activities* +esign,-ontract +ocuments. -onstruction Administration. Related Activities A minimum one calendar #ear of training must be undertaken in accordance )ith the provisions of the Periti Act% translated to a minimum Total /ours of Experience of 0111 hours 2f these% a minimum of 3011 are to be allocated to 4ection A activities. a minimum of 551 hours to 4ection B activities. and a minimum of 61 hours to 4ection - activities The balance of the hours to make up the total of 0111 hours ma# be allocated to activities in an# section at the candidate's discretion 7uidelines for -andidates 3 !t is the responsibilit# of the candidate to ensure that experience is obtained in all the re&uired experienced categories 0 8ill in the -andidate !nformation page of the logbook A separate sheet must be filled in for each "emplo#er$ for )hom the candidate )orks during the experience period 3 2n the Pro9ect !nformation sheet list the top ten pro9ects on )hich #ou have )orked during the experience period clearl# indicating #our role on the pro9ect !f more information needs to be provided please attach additional sheets 6 2n the :;onthl# Record' sheets enter the month,#ear in &uestion The numbers at the top of the :;onthl# Record' sheets refer to the pro9ect numbers on the Pro9ect !nformation sheet Enter the number of hours spent )orking on the specific activities listed on each pro9ect The hours are automaticall# totaled and taken to a 4ummar# sheet < At the end of each month% print out the ;onthl# Record sheet% sign and obtain #our 4upervisor=s signature and rubber stamp and make sure the sheet is dated 4can the completed% signed% rubber stamped and dated sheet and send an electronic cop# to the 4ecretar#% (arranting Board )ithin t)o )eeks from the end of each monthl# period >eep the original hard cop# for final submission at the end of the training period !f there is more than one emplo#er separate ;onthl# Record 4heets must be filled in for each emplo#er 5 !t is critical to ensure that the sheets are signed% rubber stamped% dated and submitted )ithin the prescribed period An# changes or :)hiteouts' on an# part of the hard cop# must be initialed b# both the -andidate and the 4upervisor ? 4ubmit a hard cop# of the completed Experience Record Book to the 4ecretar#% Periti (arranting Board% on completion of the training period @ :Experience Record' sheets for fifteen months are included in the electronic cop# in case the re&uired hours have not been satisfied )ithin the first t)elve months If more sheets than fifteen are required additiona! "or#sheets "ou!d need to $e inserted% Tota!s in sheets $e&ond the fifteen in'!uded in the e!e'troni' 'o(& must $e manua!!& transferred to the )ummar& )heet and added to the automati'a!!& 'om(uted tota!s% 7uidelines for Emplo#ers,4upervisors 3 4upervisors must be )arranted periti )ho have held a )arrant for a minimum of five #ears and )ho must be personall# responsible for directing the candidate's )ork 0 Although the responsibilit# for ensuring that experience is obtained in all the re&uired areas is the candidate's% Emplo#ers,4upervisors should endeavour to provide ever# opportunit# to candidates to obtain as )ide a range of experience as possible% and enable them to fulfil the re&uirements of the Experience Record Book 3 4upervisors shall revie) the ;onthl# Record sheet prepared b# the -andidate to ensure correctness and sign (including )arrant number and rubber stamp) and date the ;onthl# Record sheet )ithin t)o )eeks of the end of the month in &uestion
