Description
A letterhead design using a personally created logo.
Programs
Adobe Illustrator & InDesign
Date
June 12, 2014
Course/Instructor
Visual Media/Julie Peterson
Objectives
Use the basic tools in Illustrator & InDesign.
Create a new logo to ft a company or personal image. Do not imitate existing logos or use previous designs. Dont use photos or live
trace.
Use the new logo to design consistent layouts for a business card and letterhead. Photos are okay on business card and letterhead as
additional design elements. Letterhead should be 8.5 x 11, full-bleed optional, but trim only .125. Business card should be 3.5 x 2 and
printed above center on a vertical page.
Apply typography rules, keeping small copy.
Keep designs simple with light watermarks and drop shadows and plenty of white space.
Include contact information: name, address, phone, and email on each piece. Use periods, bullets, or spaces in phone number; no
parentheses/ hyphens.
Process
First, I decided to create a new logo using the same style that I used for my last project. After creating my logo, I decided to extend
the lines of the Bs so that they bleed to the end of the card. I then realized that it would be better to make the background black, and to
make the logo green, to give the whole design a lot of contrast. I decided to keep the body copy white so that it would stand out from
the middle line in the business card. For my letterhead, I wanted to keep the same design as my business card, so I extended the lines
to the margins of the page. I decided to not bleed it to the edge, because some old printers only print with .5 margins. I also decided
to add a green line at the bottom, and put my text in one line at the bottom after getting critiqued that the text was interfering with the
logo. I made sure that everything was aligned correctly, and then printed it from InDesign.

Objectives
Comprehend image sizing (how pixels and inches work together)
Find, scan and import a high-quality image.
Create a full-bleed design.
Choose a color scheme and typeface(s) that work for your message and audience.
Learn to use only Word design features without using any Adobe programs, including Photoshop.
Process
First, I scanned the image and put it into Microsoft Word. Then I followed my sketch by putting the title on the bottom of the fier. I
decided to make a line coming out of the i so that the viewer could be led up towards the body copy and the date and time. I decided
on a monochromatic color scheme, and kept a white font so it wouldnt blend into the picture so much. I decided to make the date,
time, and place going vertical so that the viewer is lead upwards. The horizontal line is there so that the viewer is led to the left to the
body copy.

Project 5: Logo Design
Description
Three logos for the same company created in Adobe Illustrator.
Programs
Adobe Illustrator
Date
June 8, 2014
Course/Instructor
Visual Media/Julie Peterson
Objectives
Create three completely different, original logos to ft a company or personal image that will appeal to the audience. Do not imitate
existing logos or use previous designs.
Use only the Illustrator tools to create and draw your logos. (No Illustrator pre-fabricated fares, symbols, etc.. No photos or live-
tracing. You may use an image or drawing as a guide to trace it with the pen/pencil, but delete the image before submitting.)
Gather opinions from at least ten people about which logo appeals most to them.
Process
For the frst design, I made a circle, then made another circle around it so the
word design could be on the path of the outside circle. Then I decided to make
the BB come out of the circle a little bit so that it wouldnt look so boring. For
the second design, I decided to put two Bs together to make a window like shape
in the middle. Also, I made sure that the word design was aligned correctly. For
the third design, I wanted to make it look like a butterfy, so I started to trace a
butterfy, but when I did that, I lost the shape of the Bs. So I went through about
30 different fonts looking for the perfect one so it would look like a butterfy. I
inverted one B and put them together so it would look like a butterfy but at the
same time two Bs. Overall, I learned a lot about Illustrator in this project.

Description
Demonstration of good photography and image editing skills. A poster layout which incorporates color with the original photo.

Objectives
Learn basic photography skills.
Choose a color scheme, take a photo to match those colors, then incorporate the colors into the layout.
Use a digital camera to take a quality image, then download it.
Adjust image levels, saturation, color balance, sharpen tool on separate layers for NDE (non-destructive editing.)
Size and crop the image, then place on an 8.511 page layout.
Use layers to design text, and repeating graphic elements in Photoshop.
Print with full-bleed margins. Trim only 1/8 (0.125) from all four sides.
Process
First, I decided to use one of my images from the previous assignment for this project. I decided on a complementary color scheme.
I used my Nikon D3200 camera to take the photo. I made sure that there was enough light in the room so that the photo would turn
out great. The only thing that I needed to edit about the photo in Photoshop was the eye, because it was a little too dark. I used the
dodge tool to brighten the eye a little bit. To incorporate the swatches into my design, I decided to use a dinosaur brush which I found
on brusheezy.com I made them the same color as everything else by using the eyedropper tool. I decided to go with the donating toys
because it is a toy and I thought that it ft nicely.

Objectives
Apply the design principles and use appropriate typography.
Incorporate basic InDesign skills to improve basic fier layout.
Retrieve image and logo from links on this page.
Create a project folder with image, logo and InDesign document to keep links in InDesign intact.
Process
At frst I came up with four different sketches, and I got feedback on which was the best sketch and things I could change about them
from my wife. Then I used the best sketch as a guide to create this layout in Adobe InDesign. I used black boxes for repetition, and
used value in the boxes to lead the eye to the next important thing. Also, I emphasized one word in my title for contrast, and to create
a good focal point. I used white space near the bottom to give it a good shape. The image, logo, and text were provided to me for this
fier.

Project 4: Montage
Description
A full color bleed inspirational montage made by the bleeding of two images
Programs
Adobe Photoshop
Date
June 1, 2014
Course/Instructor
Visual Media/Julie Peterson
Objectives
Unify a layout with a consistent theme and dominant message
Learn to blend two or more images together gradually, using masks
Demonstrate more advanced Photoshop skills for layout with multiple elements
Use a mask to apply a flter to one part of the image
Select good quality images
Process
First, I knew I wanted to use a quote and then fnd my pictures that related to that quote. I found the quote, so many books, so little
time from the website www.goodreads.com/quotes. Then I found the two images on the internet, because I do not own any clocks
in my home, and the books I do have are just textbooks. I decided to blend the clock over the picture of the books. I made sure that
it was blended into the photo by putting a mask on the clock. Then I realized that the white book was too bright, so I selected only
that book and decreased the brightness and the contrast a little bit. I inserted the text, and decided to make the words, time and book a
different font to give them emphasis. I chose to make the font white because brick or black was not working that well.
Project 7: Web Design
Description
A web page to show a logo that I have created.
Programs
TextWrangler and Adobe Photoshop
Date
June 26, 2014
Course/Instructor
Visual Media/Julie Peterson
Objectives
Write content to describe the process of creating your logo and how it appeals to a target audience. (Minimum of 200 words. Include
rationale for colors, appeal to target audience, design skills, etc,)
Design a web page using HTML to display the logo and content. (Use TextWrangler (Macintosh) or NotePad++ (Windows))
Acquire a working knowledge of HTML. (Must include all required tags (Doctype (provided), html, head, title, meta charset
(provided), & body. As well as tag that links to external style sheet. With in the body include h1, h2, p, ol or ul (with li tags), img, hr,
and a (link to blog) tags.)
Acquire a working knowledge of CSS. (Customize the Cascading Style Sheet (css) provided in
I-Learn to add page formatting that complements the logo design, by changing at least the following:
The h1 text color & background color, font colors for the paragraphs & list items, the background
color, Font Families and add at least one css comment.
Process
I created this page using TextWrangler. Before this project, I had never worked with html or
understood how websites were created. This project was the most challenging for me so far in this
class, but I feel that I have learned a lot from it.
After I created my content and inserted it into my html, I attached a pre-made CSS document to
my HTML. I then used the green from my logo as the color I would use in my web page. I found
this color by opening Photoshop and using the eyedropper tool to fnd the color hex for the green.
I decided to only use green, black and white for my webpage because I wanted to keep it simple. I
originally had more white than black, but after receiving critique, I decided to change the webpage so
that there was more black, since there is no white in the actual logo.
I then decided to move my logo to the left side of the page by commanding it to foat left in
TextWrangler. However, when I did this, my text was all over the place so I had to change the
padding to get everything aligned correctly. this was probably the hardest thing for me when working
with the CSS, it took a while to fnd the right amount of padding for everything to be aligned.
Project 9: Brochure
Description
A two sided (duplex) brochure
Programs
Adobe InDesign
Date
June 11, 2014
Course/Instructor
Visual Media/Julie Peterson
Objectives
Set up and align a two-sided, folded document.
Create an original company logo and use it in a brochure.
Incorporate quality images. (Incorporate at least four quality images (Not including the logo). One should be clipped in Photoshop and
text-wrapped in InDesign so the text follows the cutout shape of the image.
Write at least 250 words of original copy with at least three paragraphs, headers, and subheaders.
Trim for a full bleed and print in duplex (two-sided) color.
Process
At frst, I decided to use my logo from my previous business card project. However, I didnt want to use the name design, so I
changed it to be games. I wanted to talk about video games and have my company a game company. To put my logo on the front
of the brochure, I had to split it up and put them on either side of the brochure. To create the line that goes across the back of the
brochure, I frst tried to create a rectangle and line it up. For some reason it was impossible to align and get it the right size, so I had to
overlap multiple copies of one of the Bs, so it would appear as a line connecting the two.

PR Principles and Practices/Brett Sampson
Objectives
Create proposed preliminary research.
Write an executive summary, background, and situation analysis.
Defne key publics/target audiences.
Develop campaign objectives, strategies, and tactics.
Process
For this PR Campaign designed to help Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southeast Idaho (BBBS), I was in charge of designing the
campaign book. This book would be handed to the leader of the organization so that she could have direction of what to do using just
this book. To create this book, I frst started in InDesign and made some master pages. I decided to have a purple outline around the
margins, and have the BBBS logo in the corner. The actual content of the book was provided to me by my other group members. I
had to make sure that everything was aligned correctly and there was a uniform design throughout the whole book. The hardest thing
in this project was making sure there was a uniform design throughout the whole thing. In the end, when we presented this book she
liked it a lot.
