Welcome to a new season of Glenbard East Girls Cross Country! Coach Gstalter and I are very
excited to get things started and we hope you are as well! Our goal each season will be to do the
best we can to ensure that your daughter(s) has a very positive experience during her time here
at East, and that includes academics as well as athletics.
We are asking you to get involved at the ground floor of a new cross country program that we
hope to build into one that will compete in the top half of the DVC (and next year the Upstate
16) on a year-to-year basis. The only way to get there is together! We need the commitment of
not only your daughter, but yours as well. Show interest in your student-athletes athletic as
well as academic successes and it will go a long way toward building a successful team!

Coach Joe Latala
This is my 12
th
year coaching cross country and track. I ran cross country and track at Prospect
High School for Hall of Fame coach Mike Stokes. I had an incredibly positive experience
running in high school and was lucky enough to earn all-conference honors in cross country as
well as earning a sectional medal in the 3200m in track. In my 11 years of coaching high school
cross country and track between Prospect H.S. and Glenbard East H.S. I have had the privilege of
coaching more than 30 all-conference athletes, 15 state qualifiers, 11 state medalists, and 5
state champions as well as one top-3 finisher at the Footlocker Cross Country National
Championships in San Diego. Each of the past 10 years at least half of the cross country team
has earned academic all-conference as well, and that is a tradition I would like to continue! To
me the most rewarding aspect of coaching is helping every athlete on the team reach her
potential academically as well as athletically, and it all starts day 1!

Coach Gstalter
Although this will be my first year coaching at Glenbard East High School, I have competed in
cross country and track and field at both the high school as well as collegiate level. I was a
three-sport athlete at Niles West H.S where I was lucky enough to be a conference champion,
and state qualifier. I decided to continue running at North Central College where I was a 4 year
all-conference and all-academic athlete in the pentathlon, heptathlon and 100m high hurdles. For
the last 8 summers I have coached cross country/track clinics for high school students at Niles
West and North Central. I have been on athletic teams my whole life so I am very excited to
continue that journey this year as a Ram! I want each of your young ladies to take pride and be
confident in who they are and what they each can achieve both on and off the field!
