Me-illat ha@Nechoshet, (The %o""er ,croll7 has intri-#ed scholars and laymen ali)e for it@s content,
myth, le-ends, and "otential disclos#re of an immense amo#nt of $ealth seemin- to have been enscribed
thereon.
,o, $hat is the %o""er ,croll8 Is is a Ntreas#re ma"N or M#st a hoa!8 Is it a reli-io#s doc#ment and not
an administrative 3 &#asi civil doc#ment of the ,econd Tem"le era8 If it is an administrative doc#ment then the

Given that the a#thor "osits that the %o""er ,croll is a "esher, the tas) of "roovin- the scroll is s#ch a
reli-io#s doc#ment "resents the a#thor $ith a seemin-ly ins#rmo#ntable challen-e in ma)in- o#t s#ch a case.
1hile it is nearly im"ossible to "rovide any date of com"osition, a#thor3shi" or e!act "#r"ose of $ritin-
the scroll $ith s"ecific certainty, $hat $e do )no$ abo#t the scroll is that it is most "robably $ritten in an early
form of Mishnaic Febre$ and therefore $e can say $ith certainty that it falls $ithin a certain cate-ory of $ritin-s:
the a#thor and the a#dience, Febre$ s"ea)in- to be certain. Most li)ely <e$ish.
's $ill be demonstrated belo$, the .esher3inter"retation method of e!"lainin- "ro"hesy has a t$o "art
f#nction. /ne is to brin- forth "ro"hesy o#t into the o"en and the other is to e!"lain it so that certain ideas and

1ithin the conte!t of the C#mran comm#nity eschatological (end times7 historical theolo-ical concern

This leads #s to another &#estion of im"ort concernin- C#mran: 1as C#mran the "lace of the ,chool of
