Description: The purpose of this project is to design an inspirational poster using a
mixture of pictures that blend together.
Programs: Adobe Photoshop
Date: May 31, 2014
Course/Instructor: Comm. 130 - Emily Kunz
Objectives:
Design an inspirational poster using a mixture of pictures that blend together.Use the
FOCUS design process with strong focal point and flow
Unify a layout with a consistent theme and dominant message
Learn to blend two or more images together gradually, using masks
Use a mask to apply a filter to one part of the image
Process: The process begins by obtaining the photos that will be used. Then the photos
are edited in Adobe Photoshop with the basic tools such as sharpening, vibrance, selec-
tive coloring, and levels. Then, open the main background photo while in photoshop
and crop it to 11in x 8.5 in. After that, another photo is opened and using the lasso
tool, the image is selected and then it can be moved over on the main image. The same
process is done with any additional images. Those images are then resized while hold-
ing the shift button to maintain the proportions of the image. Then, the paintbrush
can now be used. In order to blend the images, the layer must have the mask button
applied. Then set the opacity to 100 and remove the hard edges. Then reduce it lower
(maybe 30) and blend in the full image. After the images have been blended, the poster
can be designed further by adding additional text.

Programs: Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Indesign
Date: June 15, 2014
Course/Instructor: Comm. 130 - Emily Kunz
Objectives:

Apply typography rules, keeping small copy.
Keep designs simple with light watermarks and drop shadows and plenty of white
space.
Include contact information: name, address, phone, and email on each piece. Use peri-
ods, bullets, or spaces in phone number; no parentheses/ hyphens
Process:
First, the logo was designed with Adobe Illustrator. It required the usage of the shapes
tool and then it was exported as a jpeg. Adobe Indesign was opened with a new docu-
ment to create the letterhead. The logo was placed on the document and then the rest
of the letterhead was created with the text and shapes tool. After that it was exported as
a PDF.

Logos
Description:
The purpose of the this project is to create different logos for the same company. The
logos designed consisted of type, shape, symbol, & illustration.
Programs: Adobe Illustrator
Date: June 7, 2014
Course/Instructor: Comm. 130 - Emily Kunz
Objectives:
Create three completely different, original logos to fit a company or personal image that
will appeal to the audience. Do not imitate existing logos or use previous designs.
Use only the Illustrator tools to create and draw your logos. (No Illustrator pre-fabricat-
ed flares, symbols, etc.. No photos or live-tracing. You may use an image or drawing as a
guide to trace it with the pen/pencil, but delete the image before submitting.)
Gather opinions from at least ten people about which logo appeals most to them.
Process:
The functionality used was the Pathfinder tool for logo #2 to create shapes out of the
text so that each can be color coded. Also, the pen tool, shapes, and paintbrush were
used to create the design of the bowls with steam.
Photodesign

This design is focused on incorporating a personal photograph and designing a layout
that molds the different colors with the photo.
Programs: Adobe Photoshop
Date: May 25, 2014
Course/Instructor: Comm. 130 - Emily Kunz
Objectives:
Choose a color scheme, take a photo to match those colors, then incorporate the colors
into the layout.
Use a digital camera to take a quality image, then download it.
Adjust image levels, saturation, color balance, sharpen tool on separate layers for NDE
(non-destructive editing.)
Size and crop the image, then place on an 8.511 page layout.
Use layers to design text, and repeating graphic elements in Photoshop.
Print with full-bleed margins. Trim only 1/8 (0.125) from all four sides.
Process:
The process begins by first deciding on a color scheme. Then a photo is taken thats
based on that color scheme. The photograph is then uploaded into photoshop and ed-
ited with 4 basics tools such as vibrance, sharpness, color selecting, and levels. After the
photo is edited according to the liking, its dragged over to a new photoshop document
and the layout can begin. The design uses a compilation of the eyedropper tool and the
color wheel to get the right colors to blend with the photo. Then swatches are added to
demonstrate the color scheme selected.

InDesign intact.
Process:
I sketched out four possible layouts as preparation for putting together the fli-

constructive criticism using the four-step critique process. After the feedback, I
revised draft to build the final version. My skills enhanced with my knowledge of
learning InDesign for the first time. For example, Im able to create shades boxes
with overlapping text, insert photos, and apply different font characteristics.
