The FIFA World Cup, often simply called the World Cup, is an international association

football competition contested by the seniormen's national teams of the members

of Fdration Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), the sport's global governing body.
The championship has been awarded every four years since the inaugural tournament in
1930, except in 1942 and 1946 when it was not held because of the Second World War. The
current champions are Germany, who won the 2014 tournament in Brazil.
The current format of the competition involves a qualification phase, which currently takes
place over the preceding three years, to determine which teams qualify for the tournament
phase, which is often called the World Cup Finals. 32 teams, including the automatically
qualifying host nation(s), compete in the tournament phase for the title at venues within the
host nation(s) over a period of about a month.
History
Previous international competitions
The world's first international football match was a challenge match played in Glasgow in 1872
between Scotland and England,
[5]
which ended in a 00 draw. The first international
tournament, the inaugural edition of the British Home Championship, took place in 1884.
[6]
As
football grew in popularity in other parts of the world at the turn of the 20th century, it was held
as a demonstration sport with no medals awarded at the 1900 and 1904 Summer
Olympics(however, the IOC has retroactively upgraded their status to official events), and at
the 1906 Intercalated Games.
[7]
After FIFA was founded in 1904, it tried to arrange an
international football tournament between nations outside the Olympic framework in
Switzerland in 1906. These were very early days for international football, and the official
history of FIFA describes the competition as having been a failure.
[8]
In 1914, FIFA agreed to
recognise the Olympic tournament as a "world football championship for amateurs", and took
responsibility for managing the event.
[10]
This paved the way for the world's first
intercontinental football competition, at the 1920 Summer Olympics, contested by Egypt and
thirteen European teams, and won by Belgium.
[11]
Uruguay won the next two Olympic football
tournaments in 1924 and 1928. Those were also the first two open world championships, as
1924 was the start of FIFA's professional era.
After how many years world cup held
The FIFA World Cup is the biggest single-event sporting competition in the world and is
contested by the senior men's national teams from the 208 Member Associations of FIFA.
The competition has been played every four years since the inaugural tournament in 1930,
except in 1942 and 1946 when it was not held because of the Second World War.
It fulfils FIFAs objectives to touch the world, develop the game, and build a better future
through a variety of ways.

Despite the early exit of some top (Spain and Italy) and solid (England, Portugal) European
teams in the group stage, in the end the result marked the first time that teams from the same
continent had won three successive World Cups (following Italy in 2006 and Spain in 2010). It
was also the first time that a European nation had won the World Cup in the Americas. On
aggregate Europe now has 11 victories, compared to South America's 9 victories. Further, the
German forward Miroslav Klose, who scored twice during the tournament, is now the all-time
leader in World Cup scoring competitition with a total of 16 goals.

Semi-finals
Germany qualified for the final for the eighth time with a 71 win over Brazil the biggest
defeat in Brazilian history since 1920. Miroslav Klose's goal in this match was his sixteenth in
all World Cups, breaking the record he had previously shared with Ronaldo.
[65]
Klose set
another record by becoming the first player to appear in four World Cup semi-
finals.
[66]
Argentina reached their first final since 1990, and the fifth overall after overcoming
Netherlands in a penalty shoot-out following a 00 draw at the end of extra time. These results
meant that, for the first time, the third place match was contested between the Netherlands
and Brazil, while the final featured Germany against Argentina for a record third time.

Closing ceremony of fifa world cup 2014
The closing ceremony of the 2014 Football World Cup unfolded at 2:20 pm on 13 July 2014 at the Estdio do
Maracan stadium, Rio de Janeiro. It is the biggest iconic stadium of South America and Brazil and it has
stood witness to seven football world cup matches so far. Like the invigorating opening ceremony, the closing
ceremony was also filled with exciting performances of Shakira, Wyclef Jean, and Carlos Santana. Also,
Brazilian superstar and the Grammy award winner, Ivete Sangalo, sang a fusion of Brazilian songs with
Alexander Pires. Finally, the ceremony of the World Cup drew to a close with a captivating rendition of the
official anthem: 'We Will Find A Way' by Santana, Alexandre Pires, and Wyclef Jean.

Opening ceremony of fifa world cup 2014
The opening ceremony of the 2014 FIFA World Cup took place on Thursday, 12 June
2014, at the Arena de So Paulo in So Paulo,Brazil at 15:15 Braslia official time (UTC3),
about a quarter to two hours before the opening match of the tournament between
hostsBrazil and Croatia.
[1]
Before the ceremony[edit]

In the hours leading up to the ceremony, several Brazilian football fans took to the streets to
sing and declare their support for the host nation's national team, as excitement for the
opening match of the tournament continued to build up. However, several thousand others
continued demonstrations against the cost of hosting the tournament, which are estimated at
a total of about US$16 billion at the expense of both FIFA and the Brazilian government,
making it the most expensive World Cup in history.
[2][3]
Police in So Paulo reportedly had to
use teargas to disperse one group of around 50 protesters, while striking airport workers
blocked off a road leading to the Aeroporto Internacional de So Paulo, demanding an
increase in wages as well as a World Cup bonus. The strike was to have lasted for 24 hours,
but for legal reasons union leaders called it off early.
[4]

Golden boot winner
Colombia's James Rodriguez still won the Golden Boot as the top scorer at
the FIFA World Cup in Brazil. Rodriguez tallied six times in five matches.
Colombia had its best run ever at the World Cup, losing to Brazil 2-1 in the
quarter-finals. Rodriguez was a key reason for his team's success, shouldering the
goal-scoring load after star Radamel Falcao was injured before the tournament.

Name of the ball 2014 fifa world cup
The Adidas Brazuca was the official match ball of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, which was held
in Brazil.
[1][2][3]
It is made by the companyAdidas, a FIFA Partner and FIFA World Cup Official
Match Ball supplier since 1970.
[1][2][3]
Naming[edit]
The name of the ball was revealed on Sunday 2 September 2012.
[2]
It was selected by a public
vote organised by the Local Organising Committee and Adidas, with over one million Brazilian
football fans voting.
[2]
The name Brazuca was chosen with 77.8% of the vote.
[4]
Two other voting
options were given: Bossa Nova (14.6% of the vote) and Carnavalesca (7.6% of the vote).
[2][4]

According to FIFA, "the informal term 'brazuca' (our fellow) is used by Brazilians to describe
national pride in the Brazilian way of life", and "mirroring their approach to football, it symbolises
emotion, pride and goodwill to all".
[1][2]
The term is also used as slang for "Brazilian" and became
well-known abroad due to the Brazilian diaspora.

Highest score in the tournament
Lionel Messi entered the 2014 World Cup with plenty of pressure. Despite being
arguably the greatest player in the world, Messi had never been the same player for
Argentina that he was for Barcelona. This is a player who has scored at least 38 goals for
his club team six years running, but was held scoreless in the 2010 World Cup and 2011
Copa America for Argentina. Everyone knew he needed a big tournament if his home
country was to advance deep in the competition and if Messi was going to cement his
legacy.

Highest scoring FIFA World Cup matches
It was one of the worst semi-final defeats in a world cup with the hosts Brazil going down 1-7
to the brutal Germany.
It all happened in the first half. It took just 6 minutes, from 24 minutes to 26 minutes of the
game to rattle the Brazilian defence and put the ball past Julio Cesar.
Two goals from Toni Kroos and Andre Schurrle, and Thomas Muller, Miroslav Klose and Sami
Khedira with one goal each closed the match for Germany and doomed Brazil for their worst
ever defeat since their loss in 1950 final.
Kloses scored the first goal in 23rd minute and that was the beginning of a flurry of goals to
come which made him the top goal scorer in World Cup with 16 goals.
Toni Kroos scored twice in 24th and 26th minute and then Sami Khedira strike on 29th minute
to finish off a breathtaking tactical gameplay by Germans to make it 5-0.
The 7-1 result is the heaviest defeat for a host nation in World cup history.

part by huge margins? Here are some of the biggest goal margin defeats in World Cup
