Eligibility:
To avail the benefit of Yeshasvini Scheme, a person should be a member of Rural Co-
operative Society of the State for a minimum period of 6 months.
All family members of the main member are eligible to avail the benefit of the
scheme though they are not members of a rural co-operative society.
Each beneficiary is required to pay prescribed rate of annual contribution every year.
Presently [2012-13] member contribution is Rs.210/-.
The period of each enrollment commences from January/February and closes by June
every year.
The scheme is open to all rural co-operative society members; members of self help
group/Sthree Shakti Group having financial transaction with the Cooperative
Society/Banks, members of Weavers, Beedi Workers and Fisherman Cooperative
Societies.
The higher age limit fixed is 75 years for availing benefit under the scheme.
The Scheme Commences from 1st of June and ends 31st of May every year.
The Scheme covers entire state of Karnataka particularly Rural Areas excluding
Corporation and Urban cities.
Benefits:
805 types of surgical procedures identified by the Yeshasvini Trust, defined in the list
of surgeries, subject to the certain exclusions, at tariffs pre-negotiated with
participating hospitals.
From 2006-07 the following defined medical benefits have been included:
Medical emergencies such as dog bite, snake bite, drowning, and accidents occurred
while operating agricultural implements, bull gore injures and electrics shocks,
Normal Delivery, Neo natal care and Angioplasty procedure.

EDUCATION SCHEMES

b) NURSERY-CUM-WOMEN-WELFARE CENTRES

1. In order to inculcate School-going habit at an early age, among Scheduled Caste
Children 164 Nursery-Cum-Women Welfare Centres benefiting 6,366 Scheduled
Caste children are functioning in the State. These centres are mainly located in
Scheduled Caste Localities. The sanctioned strength of each Centre is 50,
consisting of both boys and girls. A Women Welfare Organizer and a conductress
maintain the centres. Every year in the month of May, the women welfare
organizer visits the Scheduled Caste houses in the locality and prepares a list of
children who are in the age group of 3-5 years. These children are brought to the

Centre by the conductress from their homes, every day by 9.00 a.m. She cleans
the children neatly, and puts them in a classroom. The organiser who also works
as a teacher, teacher alphabets, rhymes, story- telling, etc to the children.
Benefits:
The children are given a hot mid-day-meal cooked at the Centre, at the cost of Rs.1 /- per
day per child. The children are also given 2 sets of dresses annually, at the cost of Rs.
150/- per child.
Eligibility:
All children between the age group of 3-5 years belonging to Scheduled Caste are eligible
for admission to these centres.

c) RESIDENTIAL SCHOOLS

Children are provided with residential accommodation and also primary school education
from standard I to V. The primary school syllabus prescribed by the Education Department is
followed in these schools. Trained teachers are appointed to teach the children in the various
classes. The boarding charge for the children for these schools is Rs. 350/- p.m. per boarder.
The children are given Tiffin and meals according to a prescribed menu chart as per Indian
Council of Medical Research (I.C.M.R) recommendations.

Provision is also made for giving medical aid to the children. The Residential school is kept
under the charge of a Superintendent who is generally a trained teacher.

There are 90 Residential schools benefiting 11,250 Scheduled Caste children in the State.
The total sanctioned strength of students in Residential / Ashrama schools is 125 with 25
students in each class join I Std. to V Std.

Eligibility: Children of age groups between V to X from the surrounding villages, Taluka
places are admitted.

2. NAVODAYA AND MORARJI DESAI RESIDENTIAL
SCHOOLS


The sanctioned strength in each Navodaya school is 200 and 250 in Morarji Desai
Schools of which SC/ STs children will fill 75% of the seats and 25% of from
other Backward classes children. Education is provided from VI Std. to X Std. D
During the month of May every year admissions are carried out through an
entrance examination.

Benefits:

The students are provided with both boarding and lodging facilities.

For each student boarding charges of Rs. 500/- p.m. will be paid for 10
months and food is supplied as per the diet chart.

Dresses worth Rs. 800/- p.a. is supplied to each student i.e. 2 pairs of
dresses, 2 pairs of canvas shoes with socks. Rs.600/- per student once in
two years for bedding.

Students are given textbooks, notebooks and stationery items worth Rs.
500/- p. a.

Miscellaneous charges are given to each student at the rate of Rs. 100/-
p.m. (for soap, oil, toothpaste, hair cutting etc.)

Medical expenses will be paid to each student at the rate of Rs. 1000/- p.a.

Items like steel plates and cups, furniture, library books, laboratory
equipments, sports materials are also provided

Eligibility:

SC students who have passed IV Std. are eligible for entrance examination
to get admitted to V Std.

3. RAMAKRISHNA ASHRAMA SCHOOL SCHEME

The main objective of the scheme is to give the students an education which helps
them to develop an integrated personality with sound mind and body, to develop
clean and disciplined habits and to get good moral and spiritual training. The fee
structure in these Institutes is very expensive and therefore bright SC students
who cannot afford to pay such high fees are given a chance to study in them by
the Government.

Benefits:

The campus contains all facilities for students like parade grounds, a
stadium, 20 playgrounds to play football, volleyball, basketball etc, a
gymnasium, an Astronomical Observatory, swimming pool, open air stage
etc.

The college/school buildings have very spacious classrooms, laboratories,
Library, a large prayer hall etc. The Hostels are very well equipped with
good Infrastructure.

The other two schools mentioned above also have very good Infrastructure
development and good coaching is imparted to the students.

Eligibility:

In Ramakrishna Vidyashala admissions are opened to VIII Std. for boys
only. Every year, during the first week of April, the Institution will hold
entrance test for admission to VIII Std.

The minimum marks prescribed are 60% i.e. first class in VII Std.. The
test for SC candidates sponsored by the Social Welfare Department will be
conducted along with other general students

In Jana Sevavidya Kendra students are admitted from V Std. itself after an
entrance examination.

Documents required: Marks card with a minimum of first class marks.

EMPLOYMENT AND TRAINING SCHEMES

1. NAVACHETANA

The department of Social Welfare has been training unemployed Scheduled Castes
youths in various trades, crafts like Carpentry, Smithing, Fitters, Turners, Welders, Gear
Cutting, Flute milling, Lathe, Automobile, Garments, hotel industry, Leather industry, IT
sector, Hardware sector, TV repairs, Home appliances repairs, screen printing etc.,
depending upon the qualification of the candidate, his aptitude and skill mainly to make
himself reliant, and to take up self employment programmes and also to acquire
necessary skill for employment opportunities. Training is imparted through Government,
semi Government, Public sector and reputed private sector organisations.

Eligibility:

a. S/he must be a Scheduled Caste unemployed youth.
b. S/he must have registered his name in the local employment exchange
c. Must be within the age group 18 to 35 years
d. Should not have already under gone Training in any other Government
Agencies.
e. Must not be a student.

Documents required:
Caste certificate stating that the candidate belongs to SC


2. PRE- EXAMINATION TRAINING CENTERS

The Pre Examination Training Centre in Bangalore imparts training and coaching to the
SC/ST/OBC students who wish to appear for different competitive examinations
conducted by UPSC / KPSC/ Public sector under takings, such as Civil Service
Examination, Railway Recruitment Boards/ Banking Service Examinations etc..The
Students who take up coaching in these PETCs are given stipend.

Eligibility:

He/she should belong to SC/OBC

Must be within the age limit 18 to 35 years

Minimum qualification is SSLC pass for all examination except for
IAS/IPS coaching for which minimum qualification is Degree.

Income limit of the candidates family should be within Rs.1.00 lakh per
annum
