About the University
Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University
(YCMOU) was established in July 1989 by the Act XX-(1989)
of the Maharashtra State Legislature. It is the fifth Open
University in the country. Due to recent amendments in the
Act this University is now allowed to establish study centres
even outside the state of Maharashtra.
The university provides relaxed entry procedures.
However it does maintain its standards for examinations.
The university may admit a student even when he is
studying in another university / Board or is continuing his
professional career. It also does not ask for documents like
Transfer Certificate at the time of admission. At the same
time the university takes all precautions (just as the
other universities do) to ensure that the standards and
quality of education and examinations, are preserved.
The Head office of the university is located at Nashik.
The university operates through its eight Regional Centres
(RCs) at Amaravati, Aurangabad, Kolhapur, Mumbai,
Nagpur, Nanded, Nashik, Pune and many Study Centres

B. Tech. and Diploma Programmes
(1) Minimum Admission Eligibility: Any SSC or equivalent
examination passed student is eligible for admission to
any course in any sequence.
(2) Semester Pattern: Total 60 courses (subjects) of total
240 credit points, which are distributed over 12
semesters (numbered from 01 to 12).
(3) Course wise online Admission: Online 'Admission
Form (AF)' Generation on the university web site is
allowed only during specific time duration. During the
each semester, simultaneous admission to any maximum
5 (Five) new courses is allowed in any sequence.
(4) Direct Admission to higher semester: Students with
higher Educational qualification in the discipline of the
programme than minimum specified admission eligibility
qualification get (direct) admission to higher semester.
‘Courses from lower semester gets exempted as per
present course exemption and credit transfer rule.’
Student has to successfully complete in the end
examination, all those courses from lower semesters
which are not exempted.
(5) Course Registration period: Valid registration period
for any registered course is for consecutive 4 semesters
and allowed to appear for maximum 4 (Four) times in the
End Examination.
(6) Study Center Services : Better study center services,
for counseling, e-learning and student support
services.
(7) Face to Face Counseling Session and Batch : Only
30 students in a batch for counseling at SC provides
personalized attention. Counseling of single course
starts and ends in a single month. Total 40 hrs
counseling is provided for each theory course. More
emphasis is given on practical. Total 80 hours
counseling is provided for each practical course.
(8) Online Counseling: Besides regular face to face
counseling, online counseling by subject expert will be
provided in phase manner on the discussion forums of
the university web site.
(9) Practice Examination : Practice examination for
each course at the study center is organized for the
students.
(10) Self-Test Center : Students can appear in an
unlimited number of self-tests for each course on the
self-test center. This facility will be provided in the
phase manner on the university web site.
(11) End Examination: End Exam is conducted as per pre-
declared 'End Exam Time Table' given in the
prospectus. On each Theory course of 4 credit point
'Total 4 SAQs and 4 LAQs' are asked for 3hrs duration
/100 Marks in the end exam. All questions are
compulsory. On each practical and project course of 4
credit point, end exam is conducted for 4 hrs duration
/100 Marks.
