Greetings of Peace, Joy & Love!

Pope Benedict XVI has often spoken of the ‘encounter and friendship with Christ’ as the
basis of evangelisation of persons and communities. And we know only too well that in
our modern societies, ‘the Gospel cannot become deeply rooted in the mentality, life and
work of a people without the active presence of lay people.’ We have to journey with our
youth and laity and help them enter this path of discipleship with Jesus. We need to invest
in this new and yet fundamental way of being Church in Asia.

The Institute of Formation, Fondacio Asia (IFFAsia) seeks to support the mission of local
Churches and communities. IFFAsia forms young leaders with a community and
missionary spirituality for the renewal of the Asian Church and society. It welcomes
young adults and professionals in their early 20’s to mid 30’s for a 10-month live-in
formation. IFFAsia proposes an integrated formation, with spirituality, lay discipleship
and community life built upon the four pillars of Human, Social, Spiritual/Theology and
Pastoral formation.

To date, more than 80 young adults from 8 countries in Asia have been formed and sent
back in mission to their local communities. They are involved in a wide range of works,
from Evangelisation, BEC, Catechetics, Migrants, Social & Human Development, to
student and youth ministry, particularly with diocesan & parish youth offices. The year at
IFFAsia can surely help nurture the vocation of your young adults as baptised Christians
to respond to the needs of your parish, diocese and organisation.

CRITERIA FOR STUDENT ACCEPTANCE

1. Within the age bracket of early 20’s – 30’s, male or female

2. College graduate or completed high school with at least 2 - 3 years work experience.
3. Has some involvement in church or society, preferably with leadership experience (at
least one or two years responsibility in some activities/ministry/projects)
4. Will commit to serve the local Church or Sending Organisation/Community for two
(2) years, part-time or full-time, after their formation
5. Has a sending organisation, e.g. diocese, parish, NGO, association or local
community
6. Proficiency in oral and written English is compulsory
7. Willingness to participate fully in the formation year
8. Sufficient physical and mental health to follow the demands of the program
9. Please complete the following requirements:

d. Letter of Recommendation to be endorsed and sent directly to the
Institute of Formation by a person having responsibility (Head or superior
of organisation or community where candidate is involved; Parish Priest,

10. Make relevant tourist visa application for foreign students (non-Filipinos) in the
country of origin. IFFAsia will facilitate renewals of visa once students are at the
Institute.

Note: The Institute reserves the right to refuse any student who does not meet the above
criteria, even during the course of the year.

FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

The Institute of Formation, Fondacio Asia (IFFAsia) based in the Philippines, has been training young
adults from various countries in Asia for the mission of the Church since 5 years now. The institute is
supported in its mission by persons, friends, families and organizations who pray for us, promote our
work and support us financially. Financially, we depend on school fees, grants, donations and
sponsorship raised by members and students to support our mission as Fondacio and to provide for the
formation of these young adults sent by various local Churches.

The average cost of formation is about USD650/ per month (covering food, lodging, formation &
tuition fees). However, knowing the difficult situation in some countries, and the lack of financial
support for lay people, Fondacio tries to find grants to subsidise to a large extent the cost of formation.
This enables young adults from diverse backgrounds and countries to participate in this formation
program.

Therefore, we are asking as school fees only US$300 per month. Your contribution in turn allows
more young people to benefit from this program for the long-term. For those who cannot pay this
subsidized cost, we are ready to offer help by finding scholarships for students. At the same time, we
encourage students and sending organization to contribute some amount by raising some funds from
your network of friends, family, parishioners, etc.

Every year, we also teach the enrolled students how to do some fund-raising and sponsorship to
contribute towards their mission formation. It is part of our requirement at the Institute as they too
need to learn how to take responsibility for their formation and to manage money and resources. It is
also a sign of their motivation and leadership.

We are happy to support you in the formation of your young adults and at the same time we need your
understanding and cooperation in this area of finances.
