Presentation Report

Topic: Business and Cultural Diversity

Introduction

Culture has been defined in number of ways, but most of the social
scientist today view Culture as shared patterns of behaviours and
interactions, and mutual understanding that are learned through a process
of socialisation, Culture is basically a perception about the groups or set
of people where the members of group share some common ideas norms
and values etc. An organisation is not only a combination of well
structure and group of people with common goals but also include other
activities which help to run business processes.

International Business Cultures and their attributes (India)

India is a very vast and multicultural country with many cultural
variations and business practices depend on the regions and types of
organisation. Generally you will find Indians are open and friendly in
behaviour and business Culture is very relaxed, and also India is a
hierarchical society in which people’s roles and standards are defined
very clearly. There are many Languages are spoken in India but Hindi is
the national language and English is the main language of business.

Important Business Practices

Meetings should be arranged in advance avoiding all religious and

national holiday time. Showing respect to elders and seniors must be
done by all means, making initial contacts with senior most people in the
organisation which helps in bargaining position and also adds some other
advantages, Indians are very sensitive and religious must observed and
dealt with caution. Having a healthy relationship is an advantage and also
a promoter of strong business relationship. Decision making process is
very slow in India due to complex bureaucracy and need to consult higher
authority of organisational hierarchy.

Conclusion

It is concluded that Culture is revolving process which keeps changing

every time. Cultural issues must be solved with patience whether it may
be an individual or organisational. Cultural Diversity is a positive
reinforcement for betterment of business organisational behaviour.
