Mobile e-commerce :person-to-person payment mobile payment services use the concept of the

virtual wallet or stored-value account (SVA), which works more or less like a prepay system.
Accepting credit-card payments requires a merchant account at a cost that may be simply too high
for doing only occasional transactions. For this reason, online enterprises have sought
intermediate solutions for electronic P2P payments.
A vendor with a web site http://www.vendor.com, provides a system for selling products via
SMS/USSD/portal. The merchant gives a specific code to each of its products, and a customer
buys by sending the code plus a unique signature to the network. The network charges the
purchases to a Prepaid account previously registered by the user.
A vendor with a web site http://www.vendor.com has created a system that processes payments
and sends machine-readable tickets to mobile phones by SMS or MMS. This system is convenient
specifically for theater and transport tickets, and vouchers.
Support for using USSD connections to make mobile payments. Support for both B2C and P2P
payments, and provide connections to vending machines.
While online shopping and payments are becoming increasingly popular, they still require a
computer with an Internet connection, which not all people have. Moreover, it is difficult to make
online payments while on the away from home or the office, and specifically while shopping. In
these situations, the mobile phone may provide a solution. There are different ways to use the
mobile phone as a payment device. If the terminal and user subscription support packet data, then
the mobile phone acts as a browsing client. Even if the user has no access to mobile packet data
connections, it is still possible to offer Internet-based payment services through WAP. In this
case, the payment provider must provide its interfaces in the WAP Markup Language (WML). In
practice this means simplifying and reducing page size, limiting graphics, and trimming user
interaction (forms and dialogues). If the terminal has neither mobile Internet nor WAP, then the
payment service provider can still use mobile specific communication channels: Voice: The user
connects to a voice response system and confirms payment by voice or by DTMF tones. Short
messaging (SMS): The user makes payments by sending an SMS, the message carries information
for the payment provider to complete a payment of any amount. Unstructured supplementary
service data (USSD): The service provider can set up the phone so that it sets up an USSD
connection from the menu. USSD connections are low bandwidth data connections for xchanging
application-specific data between network and terminal. A payment provider cannot use USSD
without support from the operator, since USSD connections flow through the HLR.
Escrow service for on-line transactions
On line Auctioning system: Support of auctions of very short duration (3 minutes), which give a
strong real-time experience. An example of a more specific auction is for coin collectors.
Offering the possibility of participating in state auctions of seized electronics equipment from
bankruptcies, among other seizures. Providing free auctioning platform. It requires CGI and the
Practical Extraction and Report Language (PERL) to run. Strictly speaking, it is not open source,
since it is actually under copyright, but the makers distribute it for free.

like giving tariff cuts from special cell sites.
Location-Based Applications and Content: Mobile devices are becoming increasingly
used to browse and download content while the subscriber is on the move. The personal and
mobile aspect makes these devices especially suitable for delivering personalized and location-
sensitive content. The possibilities for providing innovative content based on location information
are only limited by the imagination. Eg: Application for tracking children on their way to and
from school. The Guardian Angel application lets a parent set the itinerary for the child by simply
walking with the childs mobile and defining checkpoints on the way with one click of a button.
A server on the network side registers the positions of these checkpoints and the time elapsed
between them. When the child walks to school, the server keeps track of the position of the
mobile and checks it against the set itinerary. When the child deviates from the defined track, or
when the system observes an unusual delay, it sends an SMS warning to the parents. The
Guardian application is an example of a new class of mobile applications that are made possible
by using location information. While emergency services have been a driver for the deployment
of location technologies in mobile networks, location information is being used increasingly in
other services and applications. Internal location services are used by the network itself to
optimize resources and provide quality of service. The location information generated for this
purpose can be used by subscribers or third parties outside the network and can be used for VAS.
Emergency location services are used by the authorities to provide emergency assistance. Lawful
interception location services are used by the authorities in case of lawful interception.
Commercial location services: This type of location information is available to the network
operator, third-party service provider, and subscriber for providing location-based VAS or
content. One of the established location-based services in mobile networks is homezone charging.
Mobile operators use home-zone charging to compete with wireline operators, by applying
special communication rates when a mobile sub-scriber scriber is in his or her home zone, which
is usually the mobile network cell that covers the subscribers home. This means that the
subscriber can use the terminal at home to call against fixed network rates.
