ASIGNMENT 3 2

Part 1: Introduction to the Overall Project.
Caterday Photographic Studios provides photographic artwork, portraits and social event
coverage both in studio and at various off site locations as needed by clientele. They have a small
peer to peer network of workstations in a main office with a single server. There are two
additional computers at a studio location used to email client information etc. to the main office.
The software is Windows XP and is no longer supported by the manufacturer Microsoft. Mr.
Dinkus of Caterday Photographic Studios has enlisted McCall Southern to design and install an
up to date enterprise network that will make his employees more mobile and place Caterday on
the cutting edge of their profession technologically.

Part 2: Described Software and Hardware Employees
Need in Order to Work on this Project.

McCall Southern employees will need access to a workstation with Microsoft Windows 7
and Microsoft Office with Visio installed as well as a MacBook Pro with OS X Server to begin
working on the project. The installation of additional network hardware such as email, web,
database, file storage, and backup hardware will be added as needed.

Part 3: Described Software and Hardware the Clients
Need in Order to Utilize the Final Project.

Caterday Photographic Company will be provided with iMac OS X servers to maintain
compatibility and capability with their employee MacBook Pro workstations. This will facilitate
their ability to use similar services without mixing vendors between hardware. The server
software will be OS X Server while the MacBook Pro workstations will be loaded with the
current version of OS X. The virtual protected network will be setup over a cellular Verizon
wireless system eliminating the need for routers but requiring additional monitoring through a

network monitoring system. Adobe Creative Cloud will also be needed as well as SpringOak
backup for the large file server system.

Part 4: Described Software and Hardware End-Users at the
Client Sites Need in Order to Utilize the Final Product.

McCall Southern will need to provide a mobile workstation platform for the Caterday
employees so that they will be able to do more remote site photography and photographic design.
They will also require a more modern onsite infrastructure for their network. The onsite services
available will include but not be limited to web, email, and file service. The mobile workstation
platform will be Apple MacBook Pro with OS X and will be loaded with Microsoft Office, a
VPN service, and communicate via a cellular Verizon Wireless connection. Adobe Creative
Cloud services will also be provided as well as print services through the office print server.

Part 5: Described Personnel (Resources) that are
Needed to Complete the Project, and the Skills that They
Should Have, and if They are Available In-House or
Contract-Based Personnel need to be acquired.

At a minimum McCall Southern will need at least 5 persons to install, tests, and
configure the equipment. Caterday should have at least 2 persons available for training in
administering the new network. Apple OS X Server is far simpler than the comparable Windows
variant and will require only minimal training to use and troubleshoot. The additional services
provided such as email, web, proxy, printing and database may require a part time contracted
professional should Caterday not be able to provide a qualified individual.

ASIGNMENT 3 4

Part 6: Described Operational Considerations,
A Security Risk Assessment, and
Possible Costs

There are several operational considerations and security risks that should be considered
but are easily mitigated. The offsite SpringOak backup service used with a proper backup
schedule and versioning will reduce the possibility of data loss for most reasons. The issue of
viruses and malware attacks are limited both by the OS X platform itself and the use of anti-virus
and anti-malware tools installed on each workstation and server. In addition the virtual protected
network over Verizons cellular service will channel data through the Caterday web and pr oxy
server to outside services and allow for monitoring. This creates a firewall both at the VPN level
and at the server level that can be monitored by the network monitoring software. The costs in
case of loss are limited to physical hardware and the time needed to restore servers in case of
failure. As a plus with the Verizon wireless service the entire system can be separated and moved
to multiple locations in an emergency forgoing the bridged hardline connections between each
server for network speed and monitoring.
