TOP S TORI ES NEW SUPERI NTENDENT TAKES COMMAND OF U. S. NAVAL ACADEMY The Naval Academy held a change of command ceremony July 23 in Annapolis, Md. Vice Adm. Walter E. Ted Carter Jr. relieved Vice Adm. Michael Miller, becoming the 62nd academy superintendent. Carter, a native of Burrillville, R.I., served as president of the Naval War College in Newport, R.I., before he was nominated in June as the next superintendent. A career naval aviator, he graduated from the Naval Academy in 1981. Miller, a native of Minot, N.D., and 1974 USNA graduate, retired at the ceremony, completing 40 years of active duty naval service. The U.S. Naval Academy recently hosted workshops for more than 115 educators from across the U.S. and international schools to help enhance their curricula in science, technology, engineering, math and languages. NAPS HOLDS CHANGE OF COMMAND This summer four midshipmen spent two weeks in Tokyo for a faculty-led cultural immersion opportunity sponsored by the USNA International Programs Offce Two midshipmen had a unique opportunity to apply the leadership skills theyve been taught as part of the U.S. Naval Academy curriculum while giving back to a community in need. NI GHT AT THE BAYSOX The 15th Annual Navy Night at the Baysox is Aug. 5. The Bowie Baysox take on the Portland Sea Dogs at Prince Georges Stadium on Rtes 50 and 301 in Bowie, Md.
