Senator Ed Hernandez, O.D., Chair

Senate Health Committee
State Capitol
Sacramento, CA 95814

Re: AB 503

Dear Senator Hernandez,

On behalf of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Sacramento, I am writing to
express our opposition, as a community benefit organization, to AB 503.
However well-intentioned, this bill will have a chilling effect on support
for the good work of many charities in our region, including ours.

The Boys & Girls Club has been the proud and grateful beneficiary of
funding and support from non-profit health care providers such as Sutter
and Kaiser and others for many years. Their funding and community
support has kept thousands of children safe from the violence and vices
that permeate the neighborhoods in which we live and work. We work
closely with our health care partners to identify, address and meet the
specific needs of the neighborhoods and communities in which we work.
Currently our hospitals are uniquely responsive to those needs and work
with their community partners to tailor programs that they know will
bring positive health outcomes. AB 503 threatens that flexibility and
autonomy and is an unnecessary impediment to developing and
delivering programs that are critical to the health and vitality of your
constituents.

With all the changes in health care that are upon us, it does not seem wise
to propose legislation that could have such a devastating effect on our
children and in our communities. We urge you to oppose AB 503.

Sincerely,

Maureen Price, CEO
