Alternative career

Why do you wish to go for a management career?

I want to go for a management career to combine my Industry specific knowledge with
management training to have an overall understanding of the business. It will facilitate
conversion of my knowledge into application. A management program will groom me to
acquire and develop qualities like leadership skills, teamwork and good communication skills. It
will give me an opportunity to be a part of valuable interactions with people from diverse
backgrounds. This will help me to broaden my vision, help me think from different perspectives
and build a resourceful professional network. Also, it will give me an edge over others as I go
ahead in my career.

2. What alternative careers are you considering and why?

I am planning to join the Garment industry as a Consultant for Quality management System
as I belong to the field of Fashion technology. Much more work is needed to be done for the
production of quality goods with reduction in lead times to bring Indian Garment Industry at par
with export leaders of the world like China, Vietnam, Bangladesh etc.

Apart From that I am Keen on Working for the CSR section of Garment Industry. In India,
Working conditions in garment manufacturing Industry are really adverse with minimal
attention given to the welfare of workers. I want to improve this condition by being a part of
CSR team of a Leading Buyer.

3. Describe your strengths and weaknesses as identified by you.
My Strength lies in the ability to work hard in any condition. It is a trivial thing but comes to aid
when adverse conditions prevent me from reaching my goal. I give my best possible input to
the work. Also, I do not give up easily. I take failure as an inspiration to work harder.

My foremost weakness is the lack of confidence in myself. It prevents me from coming across
as a deserving person. I have Poor Communication skills. I find it difficult to convey my
thoughts with clarity to other people. I try to balance these weaknesses by working hard and
letting my work speak for me.
4. What is your most significant accomplishment so far?

I was reasonably good at studies at High School Level. Despite always been interested in
Biology I chose Mathematics because it seemed to be an easy route to success and the
overconfidence in myself left me thinking that I could do well at it. This decision backfired when
I could not grasp Secondary Level PCM and failed miserably at studies for the first time in my
life which led to total loss of confidence in myself. After that I decided I would not be a mediocre
and chose to sit For NIFT as I always had an interest in Garment Industry. I got AIR-2 in this
exam and joined NIFT Delhi. After this I have worked hard to retain the top rank in my center. I
consider this as my most significant accomplishment so far.

I like to read authors like Kiran Desai, Salman Rushdie, Paulo Coelho etc. I am fond of cooking
from time to time, especially baking. Apart from this I really like travelling though I have not
travelled much but look forward to it in future. Right now I am trying to learn Spanish and
understanding writings and poems by Rumi and Pablo Neruda.
