SUB - THEMES: The sub themes for the National Seminar are as under:
(a) Human Rights and Health Law
(b) Human Rights pertaining to the Corporate Laws
(c) Law and Media
(d) Law and Society
HUMAN RIGHTS AND HEALTH LAW: There are many ways to conceptualize
Health Law. Public Health Law examines the authority of government at various
jurisdictional levels to improve the health of the general population within the societal
limits and norms. The issues of Medical Negligence, Role of Law in Prevention of AIDS,
Protection of Human Rights of Mentally ill Persons etc. need discussion. There is an
ongoing debate over the legal and ethical aspects of genetic cloning, stem cell research,
clinical trial etc. which requires much deliberation.
HUMAN RIGHTS PERTAINING TO THE CORPORATE LAWS: The sub
theme, Human Rights pertaining to the Corporate Laws, aims to underline the
emergence of new types of law-violators. In the present day scenario corporate have
played an immense role. Many corporations are complicit in violating human rights and
the environment. Various problem of Sexual Harassment at Work Place, Working
condition of Women and Children, Corporate Social Responsibility etc. are becoming
more frequent in the contemporary times which need to be addressed.
LAW AND MEDIA: Edmund Burke referred to the press as the fourth pillar in the
working of a nation. With the passage of time, the term Press has been upgraded to
Media. It is undoubtedly a stanchion and has played a notable role in making our
nations more vigilant, participative and vociferous. It has immensely contributed in
bringing to light various loopholes in the Justice delivery system of our country as well as
in paving the way for crystallization of various powerful legislations. Despite of this
invaluable role in development of Law, Media itself is subject to the control and direction
of law in the form of regulatory legislation.
LAW AND SOCIETY: Society is a web of social relations and change is the law of the
nature. Social change indicates the changes that take place in human interaction. Law has
4

a dual relation with the social change. It is a facilitator as well as a result of social change.
In varied issues like the Status of women, Protection of children and the aged,
emanicipation of labour etclaw has been a catalyst of change. Whereas in situations like
legal recognition of the irretrievable break down of marriage, protection of women
against cruelty, cases of dowry deaths and protection of women who are partners in live-
in relationships etclaw is the result of gradual social change that has taken place.
This Seminar makes an endeavor to seek answers to all issues that effect people on the
daily basis and can be addressed by the law. Some of these deserve special attention by
judges as well as academecia while others need constant intervention of law-makers to
stay upbeat. Well researched original papers are invited on these themes for the AIL
