Gosh weve gone one full circle with-
out even realising it and now Raya is just
around the corner. I suppose getting caught
up with work will do that to you. And be-
ing this side of the world it doesnt help
that the live telecast of the 2014 world
cup are in the wee hours. During the
fasting month however, the local motor-
sports scene usually takes a short break
and this makes it a great time for us to
catch up with the teams and maybe have
our photographer shoot a race car or two.
Our pick for this months cover is a star
in the local drag racing scene. The Works
Engineering sponsored Gen 2 is as intimi-
dating as it is fast. Were used to see-
ing modied Campro engines and we
like what we see under the hood of this
machine. Its straightforward purpose-
ful and thats the way it should be.
Another stunner would be the Mercury
Motorsports R34 GT-R from the land down
under. Built by husband and wife team
the revered Nissan Skyline gets a boost to
stardom with a huge single turbo and some
850 wheel-horsepower. Other feature cars
include ProArts uber fast Golf R time at-
tack machine, a Varis Evo and a Subaru Im-
preza with an exotic twist. We also brush
up on our history with KLGs mean Galant
VR4 and an indestructible 190E Merc.
On another note, the annual Falken Road-
show returns this July but with a change
in venue. This years show will take place
from the 25th-29th at Gurney Paragon
in Penang. Dont miss out on this be-

This year I had the brilliant idea of running
for election for the Singapore Motor Sports
Association (SMSA) General Committee 2014/15.
In my eight years as a motoring journalist, the
only time I wanted to join was to head the
Women Motor & Sport Commission. But after
several twists and turns, I only joined as a
Commission Member for a year.
There isnt much motorsport activity in
Singapore, but that does not mean there isnt
anything to do. More events can be created yes,
but then there comes in the issue of funding.
Dato David Wong, team principal of the retired
PETRONAS Syntium Team that won six Super
Taikyu championships and the Malaysia Merdeka
Endurance Race three times, decided to run for
SMSA Presidency this year.
The outgoing President Tan Teng Lip had to step
down because he will hit the eight-year mark,
thus making the election very interesting this
year. Leslie Chang, the outgoing Treasurer was
the other Presidential candidate. Ive worked
with Dato Wong before and I respect this man a
lot, so I believe him when he says he genuinely
wants to help the Singapore motorsport scene,
especially at the grassroots level.
As for myself, I saw a lot of things that I could
help SMSA with, so I chose to run for the
position of Committee Member. Besides the big
four positions and the various Vice-Presidents
of each motorsport discipline, there are four
Committee Member spots. I kept my 2-minute
speech very simple I just dived straight into
what I wanted to do for SMSA if I got elected.
Five things attract more women, create an
online presence, do up a quarterly e-newsletter,
engage more media and nd more benets for
SMSA members.
I have formed an all-female kart racing team
before and also organised female-only karting
clinics. I know there are women out there
who want to get involved in motorsports, but
just have no avenues for them to do so. As
for creating an online presence, other than a
website and through email, SMSA has no other
platform to interact with their members. In this
modern digital world, I think it is important to
be able to reach out immediately and social
media is the way to go now.
To cut a long story short, it came down to a
tiebreak between me and Nish Shetty, a senior
guy who has been working with SMSA for some
time. The outgoing President got to make a
choice and as I expected, he picked Nish. No
hard feelings, I am disappointed but at least I
tried.
The thing about the elections is, only SMSA
members can vote and a lot of the people in
the motorsport community are not members
(there are only 500+ members). Some I spoke to
said they dont see a point to join SMSA, other
than getting a race licence if need be. This was
something I hoped to change make SMSA a
motorsport network instead of just a regulating
body.
Well, that was an experience for me and dont
worry, I wont give up on my enthusiasm for
motorsport. The sport is innocent.

As Im writing or rather typing this, the 20th FIFA
World Cup is currently into its second stage of the
group matches. For the past week or so, many have
been experiencing sleepless nights staying up to
watch the matches which starts from 12am local
time with the last matches for each day ending in the
mid-mornings.
Football fans are known for their rivalries, more so
during derbies such as el classico, the Merseyside,
London and Manchester derbies. Its quite normal for
us to have rivalries in sports as we are competitive
animals by nature.
But one thing that bugs me is putting down anoth-
er persons passion when it comes to cars. There
are those who prefer form over function and vice
versa. There are also multitudes of forms for these
automotive enthusiasts both in cars as well as bikes.
I personally prefer function over form as my previous
cars can attest to but it does not mean that I detest
those having crazy cambers and offsets while scraping
every tiny pebble that goes into the tarmac. To each
his or her own I would say.
But social media tends to expose the worst in us. The
automotive scene in Malaysia is not that huge, but it

is a growing ecosystem of shared passions between
various types of enthusiasts. Various events from
Zerotohundred.coms time attack to Ignition.Mys
bumper to bumper racing, gatherings and carnivals
such as the recent Art of Speed as well as other forms
of automotive culture are offering growth within the
local automotive and custom scene.
Social media has supplemented the growth of the au-
tomotive scene in Malaysia, but unfortunately it is also
a double-edged sword. There arent many, but there
are a few rotten apples who in my view are arrogant
fools, putting down anothers passion as it does not go
well with their own.
One mans meat should not be another mans poison.
I believe those who are into what they call tment and
stance are getting the most of the criticisms. While
extreme lack of height as well as negative cambers
that would make a granny blush would not give incred-
ible performance bonus, it is a culture that has caught
the imaginations of many around the world. For me, it
is amusing to see these decked out and stance cars but
that is the most I would do, snicker and giggle.
Ive seen a number of posts in the news feed of my
social media that did just that, putting down the pas-
sion of others. While most of the arguments stemmed
from having differing in tastes and views on cars and
car modding, some are based on holier than thou
attitudes where ones view on a particular issue reigns
supreme over others. This includes as I mentioned in
the sentence before, tastes in cars and car mods and
to a pitiful degree criticising pictures on the net that
to them was taken too poorly that it did not deserve
to see the light of day. Relax la bro.
One understanding that my closest car buddies and I
have developed is that everybody would have his or
her own preference and that person deserves to enjoy
what he or she likes best. Some drift, some do time
attack while others ride low et cetera. There is no
need to pile on junk rantings in the social media just
because you think youre the man, because youre not.
The automotive scene is driven by a collective of
enthusiasts. If you think youre the man, then in all
honesty you are in for a lonely ride my friend. Riding
solo is like jacking yourself in the toilet and the forev-
er alone meme applies to you.
So hugs all round and lets say it together now, One
mans meat should not be another mans poison.

Bridgestone Corporation raised the rst truss of the groups new plant
in Mexico that will produce polyurethane foam for automotive seats.
The truss was erected at a ceremony held on May 29, 2014 at the site of
the future manufacturing facility in the City of Apaseo El Grande, in the
State of Guanajuato, Mexico.
The ceremony was attended by Mr. Miguel Marquez Marquez, Govenor
of State of Guanajuato, Mr. Lorenzo Licea Rojas, President of City of
Apaseo El Grande, esteemed dignitaries from state and city government,
representatives from the industrial park where the site is located,
and also from the company that will build the plant. The Bridgestone
Group representatives presented at the ceremony including Teruo Iwai,
President of Bridgestone Automotive Products de Mexico, S.A. de C.V.
(BAMX) the company that will operate the new plant. At the ceremony
the truss was signed by attendees to commemorate and bless the plants
ongoing prosperity before being lifted into place and settled.
Mexico is expected to see continued growth in automobile production
due to its strategic geographical location and a forecasted increase in
domestic demand. Bridgestone chose Guanajuato, Mexico for its new
plant in order to meet this growing demand.

The prestigious 82nd 24 Hours of Le Mans race in France marked another
milestone for Motul as the company celebrated its 60th year of successful
involvement in the event.

In the very competitive customer prototype category, LMP2, Motul is
extremely well represented with 10 cars using its products. Within them
are several race favourites including former winners Greaves Motorsport,
leading contenders SMP Racing, KCMG, Pegasus Racing, JOTA Sport, Murphy
Prototypes and Larbre Competition, plus European Le Mans Series points
leader Thiriet by TDS Racing. Nine of these are Nissan-powered, and Motuls
lubricant is recommended by NISMO for the VK45 engine which has proved
beyond doubt its performance and efciency in endurance racing.
MOTUL CELEBRATES 60 YEARS AT
THE LE MANS 24 HOURS
In the production-led LMGTE classes, Motul is represented by championship winning teams as well as
a former winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Ram Racing, who won the 2013 ELMS GTE title, has two
Ferrari 458 Italias in the LMGTE Pro category, while in the LMGTE Am class another Ferrari from SMP
Racing and two Porsche 911 GT3 RSRs from IMSA Performance Matmut.
To celebrate its 60-year relationship with Le Mans, Motuls iconic red and white colours were
prominently displayed around the circuit through greater signage and banners, as well as some 56
glamouraous grid girls donning Motul uniforms.

it to accelerate from 0 to 100kph in 8.9 seconds with a top speed of 198km/h. With a stellar
combination of its innovative TSI and DSG technology, the Tiguan delivers maximum power with
minimum fuel consumption of only 7.1litres/100km.
The only SUV in its segment to offer these exclusive innovative features, the two-wheel drive
Tiguan is equipped with an automatic stop/start system engine that prevents unnecessary engine
idle to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. Additionally, it is equipped with a regenerative
braking system where kinetic energy applied during drive and brake converts to recharge the
vehicles battery.

VW TIGUAN NOW IN 1.4L 2WD
Motorists and race enthusiasts have much to be
eager about as Volkswagen Group Malaysia ofcially
unveils the highly anticipated fastest production Golf
ever the all-new Golf R. As the fourth generation
Golf R, this compact powerhouse combines a 2.0-litre
newly designed turbocharged petrol direct-injection
(TSI) engine that develops 380Nm of torque and
approximately 290 hp for a 0 100 acceleration within
5 seconds. To ensure that unrivalled control when on
the road, the Golf R transfers engine power to the
road via a permanent all-wheel drive system; in this
case, it is the latest version of the 4MOTION system
with a fth-generation Haldex coupling.
The fourth generation Golf R continues the legacy of
its predecessor in transplanting Volkswagens latest
advanced racing technology into a series of vehicle
that now enters the Malaysian market with a host of
new and enhanced features.
Tightly packaged with state-of-the-art technology,
the new Golf R now rides on the Modular Transverse
Matrix (MQB) platform, a combination of standardised
and variable dimensions allowing exibility in vehicle
dimensions. Enabling simple integration of alternative
drives in the future, MQBs lightweight construction
reduced the Golf Rs weight by up to 46 kg.
On the entertainment and multimedia front, the
new Golf R is equipped with Discover Pro, a new

Transistor) touchscreen capacitive colour display with
proximity sensors (tech pack), and a navigation system

AAC les with title display from its SD slot.
The Golf R is additionally equipped with 7 airbags,
progressive steering, Anti-lock braking system (ABS)
with 2 stage Electronic Stability Control (ESC),
Whiplash-optimised front head restraints, Anti-Theft
Alarm System and Tyre Pressure Monitoring System
(TPMS). When the ESC button is pressed for longer
than three seconds, the system is fully deactivated for
professional driving on a race track this deactivation
is only available in the Golf R and not in any other
models of the Golf series.
Volkswagens latest offering is available at all

The Golf R is priced at RM245,888 for the base model,
and RM285,888 for the optional Tech Pack with
additional features.

Breaking convention is not for everyone, but
it is something that appeals to everyone. Most
guys will follow the norm because it is safe and
certain, tried and tested. But theres saying,
fortune favours the brave. Those who are
willing to step out and try something out of the
ordinary may nd themselves with a reward
even by the experience itself.
Which brings us to drag racing. Now drag racing
itself has spawned many different categories of
its own. There are of course Top Fuel cars the
most extreme variant, Pro Modied, Pro Stock,
Pro FWD, Sport Compact, and many more.
This is before dividing it further into forced
induction class, naturally aspirated class, and
even motorcycle class.
Here in Malaysia, Protons are a local favourite,
especially the Satria and Satria Neo models.
With the older Satria being long established and
reputable for its capabilities, its successor is
nding itself as the fresh new platform full of
possibilities. These cars are nding themselves
appearing in a lot of local drag racing and
circuit racing events.
But what if your drag car is a Gen-2 instead?
Well then you have our curiosity.
The Gen-2 predates the Satria Neo and is in
fact the rst complete Proton derived design
and engine. It sold well for a family 5-door
hatchback, but it wasnt really attractive as
a performance car and thats where the Neo
came in, being smaller and lighter.
These guys chose to use a Gen-2 as a drag car,
and that wasnt a bad idea. It has a longer
wheelbase and better owing rooine, which
are plus points. Weight reduction can be solved
easily by stripping everything off and leaving
the interior bare. Just remember to keep the
important stuff; you know, race seat, steering
wheel, meters, standard drag car stuff. Some

custom parts will help too; a smoothed out front face for better
aerodynamics and just enough cutout holes for the air intake. Some
carbon ber parts, a custom rear drag spoiler and a cutoff rear bumper
because that piece really doesnt help in drag racing.
What really counts in drag racing are the tyres because you want the
best set with right amount of grip to nail those seconds. For this team
it is a winning combination of Toyo R1R tyres up front and Falken tyres
in the rear with the assistance of lightweight Regamaster wheels to
help propel the Gen-2 in the quickest way possible from start to nish.
And like other forms of racing a properly setup suspension also helps.
This is achieved thanks to a GAB Hi-Lo & Soft-Hard Adjustable kit and
custom lower arm at the rear.
What about its engine then? A rst-gen S4PH 1.6-liter CamPro which
outputs 110hp and 148Nm of torque in stock trim. These guys didnt
take the turbocharger route, but the nal engine output is an
impressive 178hp and 186Nm of torque. What mechanical magic did
they use?
Quite a fair bit it seems. The engine has been completely rebuilt and
fully balanced with upgraded CP pistons, ARP studs, valve springs and
retainers. The guys from Nasty Port Flow gave the head a real good
and proper port & polish that will ensure the optimum airow possible.

The air itself is fed into the engine via a carbon
ber piping and passes through a Works air box.
The mixture of air and fuel is introduced with
MIVEC fuel injectors and controlled using a
Haltech Sprint 500 ECU. D3 Racing fabricated a
custom header to help expel the exhaust gases
and squeeze out some additional horsepower
from the motor.
Works also supplied the Hi-Camshaft and Crank
Pulley for the CamPro engine to get the most
out of the intake-exhaust duration. The ignition
of fuel and air is executed using the peoples
choice of Denso Iridium spark plugs with Maxx
power cable plugs. The engine system is kept
cool using a Forged Racing aluminium radiator
& electric fan. When all is said and done, the
high-powered sends its forces via a 5-speed
manual gearbox with full MIVEC gearing ratio
and strengthened with an Exedy Racing clutch
kit.

Model Review
The third-gen Suzuki Jimny was ofcially launced
in Malaysia in November 2013 and has always
been one of Suzukis best-selling model. The
new Jimny retains its ladder type chassis and a
dual ratio transfer case which is better suited
for proper offroading rather than new model
4WDs which are built as crossovers instead. It
does however get updated with a more modern
design. The Malaysian market only receives the
hardtop 3-door model.
The model we get comes with a 1.3-liter M13A
DOHC inline 4-cylinder motor with the option
of either a 4-speed automatic or 5-speed
manual. The engine outputs a respectable 84hp
@ 6,000rpm and 110Nm of torque @ 4,100rpm,
which is enough to propel its kerb weight of
1,060kg. Thanks to its 4WD system it is able
to transfer that power effectively to all four
wheels. Like traditional 4x4s, it features three-
link rigid axle-type coil springs for the front and
rear, with a torsion bar stabilizer up front which
is better suited for abuse.
There are three buttons on the dashboard to
engage 2WD, 4WD and 4WD-L mode. On default
setting the Jimny is engaged in 2WD and runs as
a RWD. When 4WD is pressed the front wheels
are engaged as well and allow it to drive more
efciently over soft terrain and wet conditions.
4WD-L mode engages the Jimny into low gear
ratios which is required for the more challenging
offroad conditions. Thanks to its vacuum-locking
hubs, 2WD to 4WD mode can be activated while
traveling at up to 100 kmh. However shifting to
4WD-L requires the Jimny to be stopped, but
there is no need to exit the vehicle. The Jimny
has traditional drum brakes in the rear, but gets
modern ventilated discs up front.
Overall the Jimny is built to be simple yet
tough, as a 4x4 should. The seats are wrapped
in durable fabric and the cabin is capable
of carrying 4 adults with rear folding seats to
allow for more cargo space if necessary. There
are cleverly integrated compartments and trays
for the occupants convenience such as in the
two rear seats, front left passenger and center
console. Equipment for the Jimny is standard
and minimalist, though it is equipped with a
Bluetooth/CD/MP3 player for the convenience
of the driver.

with RWB owner and founder Nakai-san during
his stay here and had a little chat to learn more
about Rauh-Welt Begriff.
Nakai-san, you are famous for your Porsches but
perhaps you could share with our readers about
your early days of Rough World?
I started doing drifting when I was 18 years old
and we would go to the touge like in Initial D.
We used to do drifting everyday and thats how
we came up with the rough style, because
we would wake up, get together, and go to the
mountain to drift. At that time I was staying
in the Chiba Prefecture near to Tokyo. Next to
Chiba is the Ibaraki Prefecture which has the
Tsukuba mountain, just an hours drive away.
Chiba itself has the Funabashi bay area which
has 2 corners for drifting and attracts some 2000
people every night.
Please tell us about how did you come to love

I have always loved Porsches and wanted to buy
one, but they were too expensive then. When
I was 23 years old I got employed by a Porsche
company in Japan and thats where I began to
gain more knowledge about Porsches; from the
mechanical side to the way they drive. I bought
my rst Porsche at 28 years old and we changed
our name from Rough World to Rauh-Welt
Begriff. That was around 17-18 years ago.
For each different country you would spend time
to analyze the road conditions and gure out
how to adjust the optimal suspension setup for
each RWB Porsche. Did you face any difculties
or challenges in Malaysia?
There are always different challenges for each
country and Malaysia has speed bumps and
potholes. Some of the highways are rough and
would have a lot of bumping. But its the same
for any country and I have setup these two cars
to run without any problem.
In the past you have made an RWB Toyota AE86
for your friend Nojima-san and a Nissan S15 as
well. Would you still apply your RWB touch to
other makes and models?
At the moment Im still very busy with Porsches
and would need a long time if I were to touch
another car. But if I had the time I would be
happy to do a different car. When I build a car, it
is important that I build the car for myself rst
before my customers. I know its weird that way,
but to do it for money/customers I dont like it.
So to do an AE86, S15, or another car, Id have
to own it rst to drive it, feel it, and enjoy it.
Then I can make it an RWB car.
So does it mean there wont be any RWB models
for the 996/997 Porsches?
A lot of people want it for the 996/997 models,
but I dont have one for myself so I cannot make
it right now. Maybe in the future, but right
now my favourite Porsches are the air-cooled
models.
Your cars have IDLERS spray painted onto the
tyres. Can you please tell our readers what it is?
IDLERS is a Japanese race company which
organizes an annual race event. The event
is pretty open with its no rules policy and
attracts plenty of classic cars and caf racers.
RWB has been a long time supporter of IDLERS
and we continue to support and participate in
their events.
When you started RWB did you ever think it
would grow to become this popular? Do you think
it is also thanks to the internet?
Yes, I think the internet has been a great help for
exposure. We get a lot of fans from our facebook
page which in turn become our customers and
request for our bodykits worldwide.
What is the fastest you took to complete a car?
The fastest I took is about 1-2 years.
How do you nd the car scene in Malaysia?
The car scene here is very nice! A lot of guys
here are car crazy. Its great!
Whats next for Rauh-Welt Begriff?
I dont know whats planned for the future. I
dont think about tomorrow. I only focus on
the now. All my ideas are in my head. I just
enjoy what I do and I do it with passion. Its
like a holiday everyday for me. The passion is
important.

This years Super GT Championship kicked off to
a great start in May, and now with only 5 races
remaining for the 2014 season, the competition
is heating up as teams bring their A-game to the
coveted title. Even though the championship has
stabilised slightly at this point the anxiety and
pressure continues to build up for the top teams
as they engage in a close race.
For Super GT500 entry, LEXUS TEAM LeMans
ENEOS, who is currently in third place and trails
the current leader by only 15 points, the next
5 Rounds are crucial to their bid at the trophy.
After successfully winning 2nd and 3rd position in
Round 1 and Round 2 respectively, the team was
at a 52kg weight disadvantage in Round 3 which
led to an upsetting 9th place nish at Autopolis
International Circuit. For the uninformed, a
weight handicap is added to Super GT vehicles
as they accumulate championship points. By
adding a handicap, a single team cannot simply
overwhelm its opponents with superior speed
thus ensuring higher level of competitiveness
and more excitement for fans.
LEXUS TEAM LeMans ENEOS is led by Takuya
Kurosawa with the aid of Kenji Yamada, and
campaigns the new Lexus RC F in its charge at
the 2014 championship. The 500 horsepower
machine is tuned by Toyota Technocraft and
maintained in-house by Team LeMans throughout
the season. Driver duties is shared between Yuji
Kunimoto and Kazuya Oshima; both very capable
young Japanese drivers.

The LT-9C is Microtech answer to a race proven system with a price tag
that blows the competition out of the water. In fact the only thing tiny
about the LT-9C is its price tag and its size. Fully loaded with many new
features the LT-9C is the perfect choice for 4 cylinder or 2 rotor engines.
The unit is compatible with the MicroTech direct re X4 ignition module

The result of meticulous in-house powertrain
development and a strong emphasis on weight
saving has resulted in a hypercar that pulls
from a standstill to 100km/h in 2.9 seconds.
0-200km/h is achieved in just 7.8 seconds, with
top speed rated at well over 400km/h.
The Agera S is capable of traveling from
0-300km/h and back to 0km/h in just 22.7
seconds. The short braking time is made
possible by 6 ceramic pistons 39240mm
ventilated and drilled ceramic discs at the front
and 4-piston calipers with 38034mm discs at
the back operating via a performance-biased,
lightweight ABS system.
Despite its straight line prowess, the Agera S is
still able to return 14.7l/100km on a combined
cycle, which translates to more than 500km of
mileage on its 80-litre fuel tank impressive
efciency gures for a hypercar of its stature.
The Agera S also boasts a class-leading 120-plus
litres of luggage space for the avid traveler who
revels in the fast lane.

Protons R3 Motorsport division once again
organized a Driving Experience Program at the
Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS)
on the 21
st
of June 2014. The R3 Motorsports
Driving Experience (R3MDE) program, which is
open for the public, attracted a crowd of 40
participants for the one-day event.
The instructors of the day consisted of some of
the best driving and motorsport talents in the
industry. They were none other than veteran
race driver Admi Shahrul, professional R3 driver
Suhaimi Md Ali, World Rally Champion Karamjit
Singh, and Kenneth Koh, the youngest professional
rally talent from R3 at 23 years old.
The training for the day consisted of 5 modules:
the correct driving position, cornering lines,
slalom driving with understeer and oversteer
control, threshold braking, and brake avoidance
test. Before the training begins, participants
were educated and familiarized with the correct
driving position; an important aspect which is
often overlooked by many. This simple procedure
is actually the rst key step to improving your
overall body posture and driving techniques.
Braving the harsh heat of El Nino, instructors
and participants headed out to the main area
where the 4 driving modules were conducted.
Participants were divided into 4 groups and
allocated into each module following an
arranged timetable. Each module was conducted
by a respective instructor who sat alongside the
participants during the exercise procedure.
The cornering lines module was conducted by
Suhaimi Md Ali and exposed participants to the
correct technique for approaching a corner
as well as the slow in, fast out technique
which professional race drivers incorporate in
circuit racing. A cone layout provided a simple
but effective simulation of corners where
participants were taught to practise smooth
throttle and brake application as well as smooth
steering input to optimize traction throughout
a corner. This also highlights the importance of
forward planning which is applicable for both
race and road use.
The slalom module was conducted by Malaysian
rally legend Karamjit Singh, and goes hand in
hand with the cornering lines module. This
module also emphasizes on smooth throttle and
steering input, but applies to a tighter slalom
layout. Karamjit also exposed participants to
oversteer by pulling the handbrake and taught
them how to counter and control the car in such
a situation.
The threshold braking module was conducted by
Kenneth Koh. It may look like a simple exercise
of driving full throttle in a straight line and
braking, but with the ABS system turned off
participants soon understood the importance of
learning to brake within the threshold and avoid
locking up the tyres.
Which brings us to the brake avoidance test.
This module terried most of the participants
as drivers had to learn about emergency braking
combined with obstacle avoidance. The obstacle
being a person standing in the line of path and
directed you to either go left or right (at the
last moment!) added to the drama. But under
the guidance of Admi Shahrul in an ABS-equipped
Prev participants soon came to grips with this
exercise.
The nal exercise of the day was the time attack
competition where participants were able to
apply everything they learned throughout the
driving programme. Overall the programme
proves to be an excellent and accessible way for
the public to get exposure on advance driving
techniques, and at RM880 per person including
cars and meals provided it is great value for
money.

and parcel of optimizing your engines
performance and squeezing out that little
bit of horsepower. Due to the delicacy of the
operation and sensitivity of the equipment

Fuels are the lifeblood of your vehi-
cle and your engine simply wouldnt
turn without its presence. But while
its purpose is straighorward and its
importance is crucial, many are sll
confused at the types of fuels and how
its explosive force acts on dierent
engines. In this months TechTune we
touch briey on octane values, the
many types of fuels and which one
works best for you.
Weather it is regular unleaded fuel or
the premium stu for opmum engine
performance has a lot to do with com-
pression raos and how the engine
was built. Octane rang or commonly
known as RON (Research Octane Num-
ber) is a standard measure of the fuels
performance. For example, fuel with
a rang of 87 RON is made up of 87%
octane and 13% heptane. The rang
however is only a means of measure
and does not imply that the parcular
fuel is made up solely of octane and
heptane in those proporons. Retail
fuels usually are a mixture of several
dierent hydrocarbons and addives.
The octane number indicates the fuels
resistance to burn or self-ignite under
compression in an internal combuson
engine. Higher octane rangs indicate
beer resistance which makes the fuel
suitable for high compression engine
and vice versa.
For opmum performance in a
spark-ignion engine it is always best
to use fuels with the recommended
octane rang as specied by the en-
gine manufacturer or builder. Petrol or
gasoline has a caloric value of 14,700
15,400 calories to the pound (the
amount of heat produced from com-
plete combuson measured in units
of energy per amount of material). Its
octane rang makes it suitable for the
air/fuel mixture to be compressed by
the piston and then ignited by a high
voltage spark. Very high compression
engines or high boost ranges, which
generate higher temperatures, require
the use of higher octane fuels.
While most engines will sll be able to
funcon with lower octane petrol, this
increases the risk of engine knocking
or pre-ignion of the fuel mixture as
it is heated up due to compression.
If knocking is present the electronic
management system on modern en-
gines will alter ignion ming accord-
ingly and this is known to cause jerki-
ness, sluggish acceleraon or on some
occasions misring. In worst case
scenarios knocking can cause severe
engine damage. However, using petrol
with an octane rang higher than what
is absolutely necessary will not bring
about any performance improvement
either.
In contrast fuels with a lower octane
number but higher cetane number are
ideal for diesel engines. Diesel fuel has
a higher caloric value of about 16,000
calories to the pound but has a lower

octane rang compared to petrol.
Diesel engines do not use spark plugs.
Instead intake air is compressed to
very high pressures and temperatures
before diesel fuel is injected directly
into the combuson chamber. The
high temperatures will cause the die-
sel fuel to react with the oxygen and
spontaneously ignite. Diesel engines
have very high compression raos and
run lean, burning more air than fuel,
which makes beer fuel economy.
Racing fuels such as C14 and C16 is
similar to the petrol you buy at the
pump, but with far greater octane
rangs. Used on a daily driver, racing
fuel will not improve performance
gures albeit there have been claims
of smoother performance. The use
of high octane racing fuels goes hand
in hand with the quest for increased
power. Race cars or modied street
cars with highly tuned engines, usually
running very high compression raos
or very high boost, will benet from
the use of these fuels.
Methanol and ethanol are alcohol
fuels which are also commonly used
in motor racing. These cold fuels
have very high octane rangs but a
caloric value of only 7,000 calories
to the pound. This means some 2.2
to 2.4 mes more fuel must be used
to create the same energy as petrol.
Methanol is seldom used on its own
and is typically mixed with petrol to
improve the fuels resistance to burn.
Alcohol fuels are more corrosive than
avgas (aviaon fuel).
Avgas is a specialised type of petro-
leum-based fuel for use in the aviaon
industry. A kind of petroleum spirit,
avgas is of higher quality and oen
contains addives which are formulat-
ed for stability, safety and predictable
performance under a wide range of
condions. The fact that it is stable
and predictable has contributed to its
use in motorsports such as driing,
where high horsepower is necessary.
Last and certainly the most potent is
nitromethane or top fuel. Nitro is
like gasoline that has been pre-mixed
with nitrous oxide. This fuel comes
with its own oxygen atoms to help it
burn. Pound for pound nitromethane
makes less energy compared to petrol,
but you are able to burn a lot more ni-
tromethane in the cylinder. This results
in more power per stroke and com-
pared to petrol, which requires about
15 pounds of air to burn 1 pound of
gasoline, you only need 1.7 pounds of
air to burn 1 pound of nitromethane.
This means that you are able to pump
in about 8 mes more nitromethane
into a cylinder of the same volume
and sll be able to achieve a complete
burn. However, because nitromethane
has a lower caloric value the perfor-
mance index is more likely 2.5 mes
rather than 8 mes the gain. Sll,
thats a huge improvement when you
consider the fact that you get almost
three mes the power simply by
changing fuel!

Modifying is about putting the right touches and this
Impreza WRX STI is something everyone can appreciate

While people generally get attracted towards
a highly modied car theres also something
to appreciate about cars with minimalist
modications. These cars are often underrated
and overlooked, but they are by no means any
less appealing when given the right touch.
The great thing about this Impreza is that it is the
WRX STI model, and having a high performance
model as your platform is always a good start.
From the get go it already has the 2.0-liter EJ20
turbocharged boxer with 280hp on tap. Being an
STI model means it comes with a lot of extra
goodies such as the STi engineered 6-speed
manual transmission, Brembo 4-pot brakes,
tuned suspension, a larger hood scoop, STi rear
spoiler, and STi gauges.
The owner may not have gone crazy with the
build but he has certainly put some thought
into what should go in. First off is the addition
of a K&N Carbon Fibre Open Port Filter kit to
extract more air for the engine to breathe. Once
the air gets packed and condensed it is fed into
the engine where it mixes with fuel provided
by the 255lph Walbro Fuel Pump and Sard Fuel
Regulator. Any additional air gets released via
the Shiftdog Blow Off Valve.
A custom downpipe wastegate allows any
unnecessary exhaust gases to be removed from
the system and prevent from damaging the
turbocharger. The exhaust gas then passes out
through a Skunk2 Racing Mufer which additional
brings out the roar of the boxer motor. Utilizing a
HKS EVC 2 Stage Boost Controller and an EcuTek
to tune the ECU the owner was able to achieve
a power gure of 317hp. With the increase in
horsepower a competition Blitz aluminium
radiator replaces the stock item to help keep the
engine cool and running optimally.
The stock suspension system is just right for
the balance of sporty drive and daily use which
is why it has been kept in place. Instead, the
chassis rigidity is given reinforcement with the
installation of an Ultra racing Fender Bar and
Ultra Racing Room Bar.

The brake system is also enhanced with the
addition of steel brake hoses by Rally Italia
STi. The brake pads chosen by the owner
are from Endless and are able to withstand
heat of up to 800 degrees at the front and
500 degrees in the back. These upgrades
are great compliments to match with the
factory 4-pot Brembo brakes.
To highlight the appearance of this machine,
the owner selected a matching set of Volk
Racing TE37 wheels measuring 18-inches
and wrapped with performance tyres.
The exterior of the Impreza already looks
aggressive to begin with, but subtle additions
like the carbon ber bumper lip and roof
spoiler from a Version 9 Spec C model make
it that much more appealing.
It looks mighty packed in there but it does
produce over 300hp

If theres one car that has completely
revolutionized the local performance car scene
it would be the Volkswagen Golf. Maybe it was
due to the end of the 90s JDM performance
car era. Maybe car owners outgrew their JDM
cars and went continental. Maybe VW Golf
prices became cheaper as newer models came
out. Maybe it was all a combination of all these
factors. Nevertheless, if you havent been
paying attention to the scene then its time to
get up-to-date.
These machines with their sophisticated turbo
engines and DSG gearboxes can be downright
frightful when youre driving at ten-tenths
(seven-tenths to some) and yet it always gives
you a sense of condence and security. Hence
why the VW game is strong in Malaysia and
tuners, both newcomers and established, are
offering a wide selection of upgrades for your
VWs, from Stage 1 mods to full custom.
Weve featured Pro Art in our previous issues
and this time theyve brought out their
delicious Mk6 Golf R. As if the original Golf R
didnt already look aggressive, Pro Art installed
a complete Volkswagen Castrol Cup Racing kit
with a front bumper, front ventilated bonnet,
and front & rear wide fender replacement. The
doors and trunk are replaced with lightweight
berglass pieces and Lexan windows. Suddenly
the regular Golf R looks pretty sedate compared
to this machine.
But looks alone are not enough. A Pro Art car
wouldnt be complete without performance
modications and they certainly didnt
disappoint. Pro Art developed a custom K04
hybrid turbo kit to signicantly raise the power
output of the engine. Pro Arts kit also includes
a catless stainless steel downpipe, custom con
rods, and custom injectors. A custom Audi Rs3
air intake system allows more air to be fed into
the engine, along with a Wagner intercooler and
a SuperCircuit exhaust system consisting of a
midpipe and mufer.
So many wonderful things in one shot
The fuel system is upgraded with an Autotech
high-pressure fuel pump along with a whole set
of items by TM Works for the ignition system.
VWs get the most out of ECU tuning so it is no
surprise that Pro Art has given this Golf R their
custom Stage 3 remap. Of course with such a
signicant increase in power Pro Art installed
their high performance clutch system and
remapped the DSG gearbox to accommodate
and also deleted the automatic gear shifter.
The other parts of the car have gotten just
as much attention as well. Pro Art installed a
KW competition 3-way adjustable suspension
along with Brembo front GT-R 6-piston brakes
to match its new engine power. The chassis
receives a H&R anti roll bar and a complete
Super Pro bush kit. VWR mounts replace the
stock items on the engine-side, gearbox-side,
and lower subframe.
Those stunning wheels are brand new 18-inch
Enkei RS055Rs, which are worn by a small
number of cars in Malaysia. The wheels are
wrapped in grippy Hankook Z221 tyres in order
to achieve the best results for road traction.
After reading through the list you might be
surprised to nd that this Golf R is still a road
car, and as such most of its interior are still in
place. Only a pair of Recaro full bucket seats
(by Supercircuit) lls the front space along with
paddle shifter extensions for the driver. But
perhaps it is better that it is maintained this
way as a road car. I mean, if this were your own
car wouldnt you wanna drive it everyday too?

Penang is amazing place to be in. I think everyone
will agree that the rst thing that comes to mind
about Penang is the food. I myself have many
fond memories of the Balik Pulau Laksa, Penang
Lor Bak, Char Koay Teow, Penang Hokkien Mee,
and many more.
Penang also offers an amazing mix of traditional
with the modern. You can feel that life there
is different with a laid-back atmosphere and
peaceful environment with old heritage buildings
and old school cars. Yet, modern establishments
coexist as well like the Juru Auto-City and Straits
Quay. Only in Penang could you escape to Bukit
Genting Hill for peace and quiet and later head
out at night to party in George Town.
I mentioned cars didnt I? The car scene there
could not be a more accurate reection of its
lifestyle. There are plenty of well-maintained
old school cars running around Penang and mixing
it up with modern machines. Its incredible to
see two spectrums of the automotive culture
coexisting frequently in one place.
This 2005 Mitsubishi Lance Evo 9 is a good
example of that spectrum: the high performance
spectrum. It has been built to take advantage
of its strengths without going too crazy on
horsepower and sacricing drivability.
The Evo owes its success to the formula of tting
a 2.0-liter turbocharged motor to a family sedan
and giving it 4WD. Performance doesnt always
have to be about all out power. This motor has
been maintained to use whats been given to it
with a few select upgrades. A HKS open pod with
Kansai Service carbon ber cover, an ARC heat
shield for the turbocharger, a Sard fuel regulator,
and a Trust TI titanium exhaust system help to
bring out the extra kick out of the engine. With
an M7 boost controller at hand, the Evo gets
tuned by Lose Dogs Japan to run at 1.6bar boost
and achieve a healthy 330hp. Adding an Ogura
Twin Plate racing clutch to the 6-speed manual
gearbox allows for a better translation of the
330hp to all 4 wheels. Pretty neat for a daily
driver, wouldnt you agree?
There are other ways of extracting performance,
and in this case it is with a full VARIS 09 version
2 bodykit. Varis knows a thing or two about
aerodynamics and their kits are preferred by
some of the best teams running Time Attack
across the world. Having proper aerodynamics
allow you to run your car more aggressively
and more condently. This kit transforms the
Evo completely with a CF bumper canard, CF
bonnet, CF wide fender, side skirts with CF, CF
door pillar, CF trunk, rear bumper with rear CF
diffuser, and Ganador CF side mirrors. The giant
Voltex GT wing completes the package nicely.
Perfect for any occassion
An extensive aerodynamic package must be
paired with a proper chassis setup. At the
helm is a BC HR suspension kit setup for the
Evos optimum performance. The chassis has
been given extra rigidity with strut bars, a
bumper bar, anti roll bars, a 6-point lower
bar, and a trunk bar by Cusco. The brakes are
upgraded with Project Mu SCR pro rotors and
Ralliart brake lines. And nally we have the
wheels: lightweight Volk Racing TE37SLs sized
18-inch on 255/35/18 tyres.
For the interior, a multitude of Ralliart
parts nds itself in place, which includes a
speedometer, a gearbox console, a headunit
cover, and a gearknob. A Kansai seat rail
lowers the seating position allowing the
driver to sit more comfortably, and a host of
Pivot gauges sit on the dash with carbon ber

but at the hands of KLG Auto age becomes
merely a number

KLG Auto is a name that is synonymous with high
quality builds and high performance cars. In our
previous issue we featured their no holds barred
180SX Time Attack build which is, for lack of a
better word, simply amazing! Those who are
familiar with KLG Auto will know about their
portfolio of incredible cars, and we have a few
lined up for features in the coming issues. But for
now, we bring you their Galant VR-4 project.
Before the Lancer Evolution, there was the
Galant VR-4. Born to compete in the Group A
class of the World Rally Championship it adopted
the mechanical underpinnings from its Starion
cousin, which didnt come through due to the
demise of the ill-fated Group B category. The
Galant VR-4 achieved its fair share of WRC
Victories during its competitive days but was
shortly succeeded by the smaller and lighter
Lancer Evolution in 1992.
Due to their uncommon availability, Galant VR-
4s are great classic collectables that share the
same performance platform as the Lancer Evo.
Owners will have no trouble nding aftermarket
performance parts for the 4G63T motor which
ranks as one of the most popular JDM motors
worldwide.
At the request of the owner, KLG built this motor
for quick response instead of high horsepower.
Choosing from their range of FRP products, KLG
picked their FRP T04B turbocharger for the 2.0-
liter turbocharged motor. The FRP T04B has a
smaller compressor housing inlet and outlet size
compared to its FRP T04E brother and meets the
requirements of the owner.
Along with the turbocharger other FRP parts
were also applied to the engine build, consisting
of a custom FRP intake kit, an FRP intercooler
measuring 510 300 60mm, and an FRP radiator.
A Works Engineering throttle body nds itself as
a replacement for the stock unit and goes hand
in hand with the FRP intake kit. A pair of HKS
adjustable cam pulleys allows KLG to adjust
the valve timing of the engine to achieve the
best possible results for response. A Turbosmart
Comp-Gate 40 wastegate and GReddy blow off
valve expel any additional waste gas from the
motor and maintain the motors reliability.
Finally a Blitz Nur Spec mufer nds its way into
the rear of the car.
FRP products were used for the essential bits of the build
KLG Auto knows a thing or two about tuning and
theyve put together a few components to get
the job done. A programmable Link G4 ECU,
Turbosmart Dual Stage boost controller, and
Apexi RSM were selected to take up the task.
With 1.2bar boost the Galant pushes out an
impressive 340hp at the wheels while being very
responsive to boot.
The chassis mods for the Galant are basic but
essential. An adjustable suspension kit and
Cusco strut bar allows enough freedom for the
owner to setup his ride to his preference. The
owner chose to spend his money wisely on the
brakes and sourced Endless Racing 6 brakes for
the front, giving the Galant a very powerful
braking force. 17-inch SSR Type C wheels had
to be adopted to t over those massive brakes
and Bridgestone Potenza Adrenalin RE001 tyres
give the Galant the grip performance it rightfully
deserves.
The interior nds all the basic amenities a
performance car would normally have: a pair
of Recaro semi bucket seats with Sabelt 4-point
safety harness for the front passengers, a period
correct Momo steering wheel, and an Apexi
boost gauge up front. The nal product is an
unassuming piece of rally history built to the
highest specication by the talented team at KLG
Auto to tango with the best modern machines
that life has to offer.

The Mercedes-Benz W201 190E was born in
the 80s a compact sedan, and although it was
packed with standard Mercedes engineering
and safety features it is a rather sedate ride.
However it could not be conceived for a better
time of motorsports; the Group A era.
People often forget that Mercedes-Benz was
one of the pioneers of the sport sedan segment,
and their 190E models were no slouches. Engine
options included a Cosworth-built 16-valve
twin cam motor available in 2.3-liter and later
on in 2.5-liter with double-row timing chains.
Mercedes later offered upgraded aerodynamics
to their models, dubbed the Evolution (Evo I)
and later the Evolution II (Evo II).
The Mercedes 190E 2.316 was used for the
1984 exhibition race to celebrate the opening
of the then-new Nrburgring short track, which
was won by the legendary Ayrton Senna and
helped to further immortalize the 190E. It was
also thanks to the success of the 190E in touring
car racing that drove BMW to create the rst M3
and compete alongside.
This local 190E draws attention with its
Evolution 1 bodykit, signifying its identity as
a rare presence on Malaysian roads, let alone
the world. Custom vents were added to the
bonnet to add further aggression to an already
aggressive bodykit designed purely for motor
racing. But this road-going version aims to
separate itself from the rest with reectors
from Airpress Germany, US-spec headlights, and
Hella smoked taillights. Its 18-inch Advan RS
wheels matches perfectly to the silver paint,
but it also indicates something different about
it.
In place of the heart is not the Cosworth motor
which one would expect to nd. In fact its not
even German, but it is a worthy replacement.
As a favourite of the locals, a 1JZ-GTE VVT-i
now resides in the bay and displaces 2.5-liters
like the Cosworth engine would have. It benets
by being more reliable and has the advantage of
a turbocharger. This one runs a custom turbine
setup with a Tonnka extractor and a Turbosmart

38mm wastegate. It uses stainless steel piping
for the air lter, blow-off valve, and GReddy
intercooler, and Samco Sport hoses elsewhere.
The exhaust is a custom 2.5-inch stainless steel
which ows out to a Fujitsubo Giken mufer.
The transmission is a 4-speed automatic,
allowing it to be drivable daily and easy to
cruise, but it doesnt leave much option for
the ECU. Nothing a rechip cant x. With a
newfound power from the Japanese motor it
was imperative to get some additional meters
in the car. A boost temp, water temp, and
speed meter proved to be a sufcient amount
for the owner.
With its stout chassis designed for the
challenging Nrburgring and the Autobahn
the W201 platform is as good as it gets for a
starting point. But with a signicant increase
in power some upgrades were in order. Bilstein
absorbers were the obvious choice as they
are German-made as well, tted with H&R
springs 124/2.6 of the owners preference, and
a Sparco bar between the suspension struts.
The larger 4-pot brakes were sourced from the
bigger brother 300CE model and tted with
high performance brake pads. The owner took
the extra mile and opted for a staggered set of
Nankang NS2R semi slick tyres for the ultimate
road grip performance.

The 2001 vintage, lightning yellow pearl V-Spec
is a real iron st in velvet glove; sedate and
stylish enough on the outside, stealthily masking
weapons grade repower underneath. No doubt
after reading how much repower this car is
packing, youd likely be most interested to nd
out what makes the car tick! So lets dive right
in.
The RB26 has always been a popular engine for
tuners in Australia and, built properly, provides
great jumps in power and torque when given
the right tuning. Trent has spared no expense in
developing this re breathing monster and has
backed up the fundamentals with a shopping list
long selection of ancillaries that help it make
that towering 850hp.
Amazingly, it manages this with a standard
bottom end but everything else in the engine
bay is far from stock. The head of the twin
cam was ported and polished with re-proled
custom camshafts, ARP head studs and oversized
valves added to the mix. Internal pressures for
the engine are handled by a Nitto Performance
Engineering head gasket with HKS cam gears
giving Trent an easier task when managing the
tuning.
Undoubtedly you will be marveling at the size of
the single snail hanging off the exhaust side of
the engine. Its a Precision 7675 ball bearing item
mated to a 6Boost prepared exhaust manifold.
Helping to expel added boost pressure is a pair
of Precision 46mm external gates. Hearing the
external gates whooshing off the throttle is
denitely a feast for the senses.
Adding to the orchestra is the induction roar,
highlighted by a single K&N pod that connects
to the Hypertune plenum which, in turn, feeds
chilled air to the engine by way of a custom
core, Mercury Motorsport intercooler and piping.
Controlling the intake of air into the plenum is a
rather large 102mm Hypertune throttle body.
It needs to be said that Mercury Motorsport
custom fabricate many of their own parts and
quite a bit of what you see here (and some of
what you cant) is their own work, so dont
think Nitto is a bolt on creation! These items
include the four inch turbo dump pipe matched
to a complete four inch exhaust system with high
ow catalytic converter.

Handling fuel and spark is a set of Splitre coil
packs that deliver to a set of six, 2000cc Injector
Dynamic injectors. These are fed go juice by
way of a Mercury Motorsport alloy surge tank,
Speedow ttings and lines that ow through a
pair of Bosch 044 pumps and into a Hypertune
fuel rail. Managing all this madness is a top of
the line Haltech Platinum pro ECU, Haltech
Wide-band AFR kit and Haltech EGT kit that
integrates a wide set of parameters including
coolant pressure, coolant temperatures, oil
temp and pressure sensors as well as boost levels
via the Haltech boost controller.
Phew. Its a truly dizzying mix of performance
parts that give the car the ability to run a 400
meter sprint in 9.2 seconds. When you consider
that the car weighs 1780 kilograms in full street
trim, you get a real sense of just how extreme
the entire build is.
Getting all this power to the ground is the
surprisingly robust standard 6-speed Getrag
mission that has been mated to an NPC twin
plate clutch and custom lightened ywheel.
You will no doubt have noticed that the car is
equipped with Tein Monoex suspension units
that are controlled electronically via the Tein
EDFC in-cabin controller, giving Trent the ability
to adjust spring rates on the y. The R34 chassis
has been given lateral stiffness via SuperPro roll
centre front and rear stabilisers and SuperPro
master bush kit.
The Tein units suspend functional, lightweight
forged Advan RZ-DF 20 x 10.5J alloys on all
corners and the contrast of black on lightning
yellow is a real visual treat. The Advans house
a custom brake set up that comprises of huge
8 piston JBT calipers and 380mm, two piece,
slotted JBT rotors at the front while the rear
gets 4 piston calipers and 355mm two piece
rotors to match. Nitto very clearly has the whoa
to match its go.
Nitto was built with a specic philosophy in
mind. That was to ensure that the car could still
be street driven, look sedate enough to y under
the radar when around the authorities and yet,
tear a hole in the space-time continuum when
driven in anger. This has all been achieved with
a relatively unassuming combination of body
tuning.
The front bar is a genuine Nismo item with
clear corner indicators. The front under diffuser
is a genuine carbon ber Z-Tune piece with
Z-Tune rear pods and side skirts giving added
visual appeal. The whole package is outrageous
mechanically but very stealthy on the outside
and so the quest to have Nitto represent a true
sleeper image has successfully been pulled off.
850hp at the wheels is made possible with the Precision 7675 ball bearing turbocharger
Open the door and you are confronted with a very
beautiful and original interior that completes the
black and yellow theme. Genuine black leather
Bride Brix semi-buckets compliment driver and
passenger while the entire rear bench has been
custom re-trimmed in black leather as well -
adding Bride cloth material inserts just keeps
with the theme. This also extends to the doors
with Bride material taking up the inserts. Its a
very functional and attractive interior keeping
things relatively understated visually. Other
small modications include a Nismo 320kph dash
insert - you will also notice the Tein EDFC unit
sits nicely tucked away in the centre console.
Nitto is denitely one of the most extreme R34s
Ive shot but unbelievably, things are about to
get even more ridiculous when I inform you, that
as of the time of writing, Trent is building an
even more powerful engine for 2014. Its shaping
up to be a stroked RB30 bottom end mated to
an RB26DETT head, with more boost with Trent
telling me he is expecting to make 1200hp at the
wheels banging through an OS Giken sequential
transmission! The car is already crazy enough
as it is but there are some very serious horse
power wars going on down under and Mercury
Motorsport is just about to upgrade Nitto to
the point where it really will be all out nuclear
warfare!
For a car that is 100% streetable and 100% batshit
crazy, you have to wonder where the power wars
will end but as long as the R34 exists in this
world, with mad scientists like Trent and Tessa
Whyte building them to insane levels, I wouldnt
say anytime soon!

Motorist in Malaysia will soon benet from
improved road safety, this following the launch
of Mobileye - the worlds most advanced driver
assistance system (ADAS). Ofcially distributed
by Pro ICE Sales & Services (M) Sdn Bhd, Mobileye
is a collision avoidance system that identies
road safety risks and alerts the driver with
both audible and visual warnings. The launch
in Putrajaya was ofciated by Malaysias Land

accidents. A recent study has showed that where
a moving vehicle is concerned, even a momentary
lapse in concentration may lead to an accident.
Mobileye aims to improve road safety by beating
the odds with its high tech collision avoidance
system that warns drivers to potential risks,
giving them time to react accordingly.
Mobileyes smart front facing camera acts as
a third eye that constantly monitors the road
ahead to mitigate and avoid the risk of collision.
A breakthrough for vision-based safety platforms
the proprietary EyeQ chipset and complex
algorithms found in Mobileye translates real
world scenarios into a unique set of driver safety
and convenience applications.
What was previously only available through 19
luxury automakers worldwide and on large eet
companies is now offered as an aftermarket
product for busses, trucks, lorries, vans and cars
in Malaysia. Pro ICE is already a household name

In his opening speech, CEO of Pro ICE, Datuk Roger

Mobileye is an intelligent solution to the recent
increase in road accidents involving heavy
vehicles and motorcyclists. Many victims have
lost their limbs, and in some cases, their life.
With constant development in advanced driver
assistance systems, various tools are available to
us and we need to make an informed decision to
safeguard the life of ours and others surrounding
us.
Since Mobileye detects and identies pedestrians
and various objects on the road such as vehicles,
lane marking and trafc signs, the system is
able to warn the driver of an impending risk or
collision. By alerting the driver with both visual
and audible warnings, the driver has more than
ample time to react to the situation. Another
plus would be its ability to sync via Bluetooth to
most smartphones, which would allow the user
to receive alerts directly on their mobile phone
and receive real-time data and driving behavior
statistics.
External conditions such as hot weather, trafc
jams or even a simple distraction can sometimes
cause a driver to lose focus on the road. With
Mobileye however, the road ahead is constantly
monitored and assessed for impending dangers.
For companies that operate a eet of vehicles,
Mobileye not only promotes safer motoring and
improved productivity on a day to day basis,
but also allows the management to study each
drivers behavior on the road and decide on the
appropriate course of action. The data collected
from the system can be relayed back to the ofce
via a dedicated Mobileye eet management
system.
Also present during the launch were
representatives from Tokio Marine Insurans
Berhad (Malaysia), to identify the possibility
of working together. Currently Tokio Marine
Singapore offers a rebate of up to 50% on motor
vehicle insurance premiums, exclusively for its
customers who have Mobileye installed in their
cars. Similar incentives are also being offered
by insurance companies in Russia, China, Turkey,
Latvia and the USA.

set threshold distance is measured in seconds
and the system is active at speeds above
30km/h.
Mobileye automatically raises and lowers
the high beams without inconveniencing
oncoming or preceding trafc. This feature
is only available at speeds of 35km/h and
over, and on vehicles with the supporting
infrastructure.
Mobileye detects and classies various speed
signs and sends an alert to your smartphone
when you exceed the predetermined speed
limit. Bluetooth connectivity is available only
with 5-Series systems.

DDX3035 / DDX3035BT A 6.1 inch LED
widescreen multimedia AV receiver, the DDX3035
series supports media formats such as MPEG1 /
MPEG2 and DivX. Easy and auto pairing makes

Auto-City Carnival returns again for 2014, this
time bigger and better in its 11th edition.
Dubbed the carnival of the year by the folk
up north, the action took place at Highway
Auto-City along the North South Expressway,
located just a stones throw away from the Juru
Interchange. The three day event, ofciated by
YB Lim Hock Seng and Gary Teoh, managed to
win the interest of some 60,000 car enthusiasts
and visitors from all across Malaysia.
Like the ones before it, this years event was
heavy on fun-lled activities and family-ori-
ented entertainment. There was something
for everyone regardless of age, including a
coloring contest for children which received an
overwhelming 60 entries. The main highlight
however was the cars on display. Ranging from
exotic supercars to insanely modied machines,

Red Bull Rookies Search was looking for
its next female star, while the guys put
their skills to the test in the Subaru AWD

took part in the TME Time Aack Chal-
lenge 2014, they certainly had their x
of adrenaline.
Organised by Titan Motorsport and
Event, Round 1 was held at the Ma-
lacca Internaonal Motorsport Circuit
(MIMC) on the 1st of June. Just like
any other me aack the rules of the
event are simple; to be the fastest
man or woman of the day, and to do it
safely.

Art of Speed Asia 2014 is back for its 3
rd
year
running and follows up its success by taking things
a step further with international players coming
to recognize our local event. This year, the event
was held on a much bigger scale at Citta Mall
in Ara Damansara on the 7th and 8th of June.
80,000 visitors including from Malaysia, Japan,
Taiwan, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Brunei,
Hong Kong and Spain ooded the shopping mall
over the two-day event.
Art of Speed Asia 2014 stays close to its roots,
with their tagline Celebrating Art in Automotive
Culture that highlights the crossover of lifestyle
and art as championed by Art of Speed Malaysia
but with more regional relevance.
Art of Speed Asia 2014 will also be a regional
platform for enthusiasts around the region to
gather and meet icons from beyond South East
Asia. It also aims to inspire and market local
creative products to international markets.
This year, the event was supported by Tourism
Malaysia, recognizing the burgeoning growth of
visitors and fans of the custom culture scene
from the region.
The event is the brainchild of Asep Ahmad
Iskandar, the Managing Director of Initium Sdn
Bhd, a turnkey event management company. He
said, We intend to create an event that takes
a giant leap in quality of content that speaks to
regional fans and brings them closer together
while creating a regional platform to connect
with a global audience. Art of Speed Asia 2014
is unique as were not only ying in the icons of
the industry but also their vehicles and art works
to inspire in our Show and Shine competition
and the Art Gallery. Fellow enthusiasts are also
able to chat with our Special Guest in Kustoms &
Coffee Talk sessions. We are thankful to all fans
and the public especially our various community
in the four and two wheel industries. All in all, a
great interactive day out for all the fans and the
public making it a show not to be missed!

Art Of Speed Asia 2014
Having evolved from a national event into a
regional affair, Art of Speed Asia 2014, which is
currently among the most prominent kustom
kulture gathering in the region, play host to the
movers and shakers of the regional custom scene
such as Mooneyes Japan, Rocky Auto Japan,
Flat 4 Tokyo, Kutsom Kulture Produktion Japan,
Speedhunters.com, Rough Crafts Taiwan and Air
Runner Custom Paint Studio from Taiwan.
This years showcase included a Show and Shine
competition, a custom motorcycle area, stage
acts, an art gallery themed Moto Circus curated
by Bone Ale and the District Shop-Gallery with
local and international artists, children and
family activities which includes Giant Bubble,
Tamiya, Hotwheels and Star Wars costumed
charity phototaking, a Soapbox Show & Go!, a
youth arena featuring skateboard and BMX and
grafti exhibition. Astro Awani also launched
the fth season of their automotive show called
InGear at this event.
Among other highlights were retailers at the
marketplace, vintage and jeans market by
PintuMerah and local brand bazaar by Tempatan
Fest, which in overall featured more than 150
brands.
Of course the coveted prizes of the event are
Best of Show Automobile Category and Best of
Show Motorcycle Category, which were won
respectively by Hatish Mayer and Ali Garerro
Classic. Both these winners will be own over
to the Mooneyes Yokohama Hotrod and Custom
Show this coming December, which is believed to
be the best kustom kulture show in the world.
