PTP LINKPlanner
One Point Wireless Suite
For Point-to-Point Wireless Ethernet Bridges*
Wireless broadband connectivity has advanced dramatically over the past few years,
offering an exciting and sometimes intimidating abundance of choices to transport
your data, voice and video communications. Manufacturers have developed wireless
systems that are available in many models that encompass both licensed and
unlicensed radio frequencies (RF) as well as a wide range of throughput speeds.
With so many choices, it would be enormously helpful to know which alternative
best meets your needs before deployment. Motorola has responded to that
dilemma with its PTP LINKPlanner tool to take the guesswork out of link design
and provide the information needed to be condent of link performance before
purchase. With versions for Microsoft

Windows

and Intel

-based Mac

systems, PTP LINKPlanner is a free, easy to use system-design tool that is
available as a stand-alone tool or as part of the Motorola One Point Wireless
Suite. When used in conjunction with the Suites MeshPlanner and LANPlanner,
wireless networks of virtually any size and complexity can be easily and
holistically designed for optimal deployment and cost effectiveness.
Predict Performance Prior To Purchase
Designed for use with Motorola Point-to-Point
Wireless Ethernet Bridges, the PTP LINKPlanner
allows you to determine link performance
characteristics before you spend money on a
solution. With this feature-rich link design tool, you can:
Engineer a ve-nines-reliable wireless link even in
a non-line-of-sight environment
Develop path plans for single and multiple links
simultaneously
Obtain a comprehensive overview of your entire
point-to-point wireless network via Google Earth
Conduct what if scenarios and optimize
performance based on geography, distance,
antenna height and transmit power
Generate reports that validate projected
performance and serve as time-saving deployment
guidelines
Thousands of Motorola Point-to-Point customers
have obtained accurate link performance projections
using the PTP LINKPlanner tool. The performance
reports not only gave them condence that the
wireless network would meet their needs but also
provided installers the conguration guidelines
that enabled them to quickly deploy the network
without stress.
The PTP LINKPlanner in Action
The following information gives you a brief overview
of how the PTP LINKPlanner works.
The rst step in link design is to enter information
about the sites you want to connect. Latitudes and
longitudes can be obtained from:
Google Earth at http://earth.google.com
Multimap at http://www.multimap.com
Walking a path with a Global Positioning System
(GPS)
The recommended method to insert sites into a
project is to import the information using Google
Earth.
* The PTP LINKPlanner tool
may not perform link plans
for the entire PTP portfolio.

By modifying system characteristics such as
antenna type and height, you can obtain the optimal
conguration to achieve the projected performance
you need to meet your throughput and availability
requirements. In addition to the throughput and
availability shown here, you will also see projected
system gain margin and path loss for the link.
The accuracy of PTP LINKPlanner projections depends
on obtaining accurate and complete path data.
Based on the path data provided, the PTP LINKPlanner
reports will predict after-deployment performance
and provide installers with the information they need to
successfully install the links in your wireless network.
