Technology, Beijing University of Posts and
Telecommunications (BUPT), is a national key
university built preferentially in the national
Project 211, also one of 985 innovation platforms
for superiority subject. BUPT is a comprehensive
university with information and telecommunication
technology as its main feature, engineering and
science as its main focus and a combination of
engineering, management, humanities and sciences
as its main pursuit, which becomes an important
base for fostering high-tech talents.
BUPT has 11 schools, three research institutes
and one center on Marxism teaching and research.
The eleven schools are School of Information
and Telecommunications Engineering, School
of Electronic Engineering, School of Computer
Science, School of Automation Engineering, School
of Software Engineering, School of Economics
and Management , School of Humani t i es ,
School of Science, International School, School
of Network Education, and School of Ethnic
Minority Education. The three research institutes
are Institute of Network Technology, Institute of
Optical Communication and Photoelectron and
Institute of Sensing Technology and Business. The
university has 2 national key laboratories, State Key
Laboratory of Information Photonics and Optical
Communications and State Key Laboratory of
Networking and Switching.
Currently, there are eleven academicians, 216
professors, 465 associate professors at BUPT, and
53% of BUPT have doctorate degree. And 22,400
full-time undergraduates, graduates, PhDs and
international students, and 30,694 registered part-
time students are studying under 36 undergraduate
programs. 42 graduate programs, two types of
professional master degree programs, 15 doctoral
programs and 5 postdoctoral programs. BUPT
attaches great importance to the exchange and
cooperation with other higher learning institutions
both home and abroad and has established inter-
university academic exchange programs with over
70 universities form 40 countries, including the

Sweden, France, Japan, Korea and etc. and with
those from the regions of Hong Kong, Macao, and
Taiwan. BUPT has also cooperated successfully

international consciousness.

full swing. BUPT is growing in its main strength
and striving to become a world-class university
specializing in information and telecommunications
technology with a balanced development of all
disciplines.
Length of Study
Graduate students may study at Beijing University
of Posts and Telecommunications for two to three
years, undergraduates may study for four years,
and visiting students and research scholars may
generally stay for half a year to one.
One academic year includes spring semester and
autumn semester. The autumn semester is the
beginning of the new academic year, generally from
September until January of the following year. The
spring semester usually from Febury to July. There
are two long holidays in every academic year,
summer holiday and winter holiday. The summer
holiday usually be arranged during July and
August, about 5 weeks, and the school will arrange
summer holiday courses. The winter holiday is
comparatively short and is arranged during January
to February, about four weeks. It usually cover
Chinese Traditional Spring Festival.
