Unveiling The God That Has Come To Live Among Us ~ Part 2
1. Go through the prologue (v.1-18) and note any references to people. What does it
express about people’s relationship with God? What personal implications are there
to you?
2. How do these last few verses, in the context of the prologue make it unmistakably
certain that the Word is indeed Jesus Christ?
3. Knowing that Jesus Christ is fully reflecting God’s attribute of being the truth and
source of all truth, how can we as believers be more truthful in our homes, workplace
- in all the relationships that we have?
4. Is the fullness of God, glory, light, grace, etc. being appropriated in your life?
The Disservice of Sin

Sin has done a great disservice to man. Its destructiveness has ravaged men’s souls
since its inception in the Garden of Eden when Adam disobeyed God and listened to
his wife Eve and obeyed her over the command of God. That one intentional step has
wrecked man and caused his created perfection to lapse into evil with little residual
Imagio Dei (created in the image of God).
But God did not forget man, nor did He cast him away forever, but had in His infinite
mercy a plan to rescue those who would obey the Gospel and turn to Him through the
gift of a perfect sacrificial Lamb - Jesus Christ, understanding that to turn away from
or reject this free offer would mean condemnation and God’s wrath forever.
There is a need in our culture for people to be taught that the wrath of God abides on
those who violate His perfect and holy Law. That includes believer and unbeliever. Let
me explain.
An understanding of God’s Law causes the believer to respond in utter horror at the
prospect of eternal condemnation and judgment. There is no prospect of deliverance
outside of what God has done to provide a substitutional sacrifice of His choosing and
man must yield to it in order to escape God’s wrath and condemnation. This creates a
thankful heart in the believer and joy as a result of their having been delivered from
the power and penalty for their sins. While believers are not under Law, but under
grace, it is needful for us to understand the Law of God and its intended purpose. It
was never intended to make man holy, but to teach man that he was unable to
accomplish the holiness of God based upon his own power and also to teach us just
how holy God is.
The unbeliever, on the other hand needs to hear this message of their violation of
God’s holy Law in order to strike terror in their hearts and thus hopefully want the
deliverance that God provides. In our culture of permissiveness, this is a message that
falls on deaf, hard ears, especially if life is easy and hardships are few. The word sin is
very unpopular and some try to couch the term in different ways in order to make it
appealing. It is no wonder some don’t want to hear the term sin because nobody tells
me what I can and can’t do. So, sin remains rampant, marriages fall apart, many are
“sleeping around,” young girls are pushing baby carriages around our community
shamelessly without the sign of a ring or a committed male beside them. Drugs are
used profusely and the cults are rampant. We must have a Gospel witness in this
community. There is no other recourse.
O believer! Does this not bother you that souls are entering the funnel of hell without
the message of the Law of God? The wondrous grace of Jesus Christ, full to the full of
grace – inexhaustible and free, must go out. We must take God’s Word and apply it to
the souls of people or they will perish.
