Years walked through us and we never get to chase and pull it back.

All we can do is to
chase after and go with it. Like what Japan did when they were devastated twice by a nuclear
bomb in 1945 during the Second World War, made a way to wake up from the their distressed
situation. Like how Singapore, South Korea and China held hands with the modernization and
development from their unfortunate situation. Now, Thailand and Malaysia are following the
straight roads path. Twenty-five years is surely enough for development phase but it seems like
we still need twenty-five more. We shook our heads every time we ask why we cant run with
them. Why cant Philippines go back to the limelight we used to be standing?
By the reason of the mentality towards politics and the problems we inherited from the
past is deeply engraved on us, we are still paying for the wrong decisions until now. Democracy
the most fragrant word the oppressed can ever smell. Because of Marcos neck gripping
leadership for more than ten years, people wanted to run, to break free from the obscure chains
of dictatorship. People wanted freedom. Not minding the economic stability and international
credit our country is experiencing. People wanted to revolt. When trees bore yellow ribbons,
people rejoiced and then revived a democratic nation. Democracy is defined as a form of
government that is for the people wherein the people rule. Nonetheless, pure democracy is
impossible. Anarchism and mayhems will rise because everyone has a right in his own ways;
self-vested interest and desires are not controlled by anyone, therefore a pure democratic country
is just a delusion. After Marcos regime, our fellowmen fed themselves with the deception of
pure democracy; which did not actually happen. Man, whose independence is being robbed, will
struggle to convey his freedom back; then, enough freedom is not enough; too much it is.
Democracy was overstated and abused. The system became lousy and unsecured. People made
their parameters of liberty not to satisfy the concept of justice but to suffice their desires.
Philippine context of democracy killed discipline. Self-control was eaten by the overpowering
freedom. Disorder of different opinions and expressions led to factions and power struggle. For
freedom has to have limitations, an election of the legislative body must be the solitary
implication of democracy in our system. Not all decisions are bound to be defined by the people
for man is easily corrupted and swayed. Furthermore, man is by nature selfish because of self-
preservation, to survive. To control their wants, give them enough but never give them too much
and if excessiveness is insisted, punishment will be instigated.
Power Struggle
Man has different thinking so does opinions and natural it is for an individual to find
others who share the same view with him. Factions gave birth to the left and right; rebels and
cronies. Ideologies are battled for and the struggle for power and position. Impossible it is to
implant a same mind set to the society but to control them is attainable. Having factions delivers
chaos to the system; strong groups may succeed over the others and influence the policies based
on self-conferred welfares. The legislative body is enough to keenly represent the will and needs
of the people and exo-interventions are not necessary. Useless and personal welfares do not
alleviate the situation because it can just cater few instead of the majority. Interest groups destroy
the idea of common good. One should rule the many and divisions inside the system should be
controlled or otherwise, diminished. ----
Weak Implementation of Laws
If a law is violated, punishments will be done. Punishments create fear. Fear creates
obedience. Obedience creates order. We have our laws of course but it appears that people are
not afraid to violate anything. Does the punishments do not scare them? Of course not, they
know they can always find a hole particularly to those who have money. The laws are not the
main glitch but the implementation itself. What is lacking?the absence of integrity in the
structure of the government because it can be bribed; the loss of political will or the motivation
towards a political action. Political will should be present in all the people in public service. It is
not an easy word, it requires salience and intensity. Policies should be executed by hook or by
crook. Regardless of the people involved, punishments, if needed, should be imposed. A state
should master the saying the law may be harsh but it is the law. No amount of money should
afford twisting laws backwards. No prestige should blind punishment. No foreigner should step
on our commandments. Then if a public servant disobeyed his duties, he should not be exempted
by any reason. Even the head of the state is subject to punishment, even the legislative body
members. Immunity among the law makers and the head of the state should not be enacted. That
is why politicians keep on running for positions over and over again because they want to be
excused from their legal disobedience. Even in the smallest, simplest violation should be
addressed. That is the problem, we dont put importance to small damages not knowing these
small wounds contributes to the weak policy implementation.
