- Warring States (5th-3rd c. BCE) Chinese thought;
- early Chinese intellectual, legal, and political history;
- state formation and theories of rulership in early China;
- archaeologically excavated manuscripts and historical archaeology;
- water resource management, hydraulic technology and infrastructure in early China;
- history of urban organization and planning;
- Western Han China mausoleum towns and regional history of Chang’an.
