RESUMO: O objetivo deste trabalho observar como a circulao multimodal e intermidial do
texto literrio pode propor novas leituras sobre aspectos abordados no texto-fonte. Na adaptao
cinematogrfica My Fair Lady (1964), baseada na pea Pygmalion (1914), de Bernard Shaw, a
mudana de meio semitico, da literatura para o cinema, provocou uma nova abordagem na
representao das relaes de gnero e, conseqentemente, na caracterizao do gnero textual
de ambos: uma comdia romntica e uma comdia satrica, respectivamente.

ABSTRACT: This study aims at analyzing how multimodal and intermedial circulation of literary
texts can propose new perspectives on subjects involved in the source text. In the
cinematographic adaptation My Fair Lady (1964), based on the play Pygmalion (1914), Bernard
Shaw, the change in the semiotic medium, from literature to cinema, has given a new approach to
the representation of gender relations and, as a consequence, to the characterization of genre in
both of them: a romantic comedy and a satirical comedy, respectively.
