P. Manikyam, Rajole.

Q: I have been here in the past three years -
Say if the underlined (above) word is used
or not?
A: I have been here for sometime during/ in
the past three years - Correct..
Q: Does the word people have its plural form
as in Oxford peoples is written on the page
no. 1779, while giving the meaning of the
word 'world' it is written that ''the earth,
with all its countries, peoples and natural
features''.
A: The plural of people, 'peoples' means the
people of more than one country.
eg: The peoples of India and the US = The
people of India and the people of the US.
Q: Why are the words stars, planets called the
stars and the planets, as there are more stars
than one as well as there are more planets
than one. Clarify and also the worlds.
A: They are called just 'stars' and 'planets', and
not 'the stars' and 'the planets'. No 'the'
before stars and
planets if you
talk about them
generally.
The sky is full of
stars (Not 'the'
stars).
Planets (not the
planets) are much
smaller than stars (not, the stars).
Read the dictionary carefully once again.
The Worlds = Not only the world we live in,
but the other worlds, not known to us, in God's
creation.
Q: Explain with a few examples the meaning

Q: Please explain the following.
1. Ton - Thousand
2. Delete - Eliminate
3. Hike - Increase
4. Pace bowler - Medium Pacer
A: 1) Ton, thousand - no need for confusion, is
there? 'Ton' is a unit of weight equal to
1000 kg, where as 'thousand' is just a num-
ber. (British Ton is different from Metric
ton = 1000 kg. British Ton = 1016 Kg.
Metric ton is a French unit of weight.)
