A. Preparatory Activities

Motivation

Ask: What did you do before coming to school today?
Call out some pupils and let them and act in front of the class what they
did before coming to school.

B. Development of the Lesson

Presentation

Show pictures of the daily activities of the children before coming to
school. Write their answers on the board.

Example:

Walking




Notice the ending of every word.



Using the list of gerunds, write sentences using each gerund as subject of
the sentence. Write your sentences in the strips of cartolina. Underline
the gerunds.

Examples:

Walking is a good exercise.
Eating is an everyday activity.

Analysis and Discussion

Ask What can you say about the underlined words in the sentences?
(They are verbs.)
verbs ending in ing used as nouns are called gerunds.

Can the examples in the table above as sentences? (Yes)
Why? What do they have? (They have a subject and a predicate.)

What is the subject in each sentence? (Walking and Eating)

What are gerunds? When do we use them? In what part of the sentence
can we use gerunds?

(Gerunds are verbs that end with ing which are used as nouns or as a
subject of a sentence.)

C. Post Activity

Application

Determine whether the gerunds in the following sentences are used as
the subject or not. Put a check before each number for those used as
subject.

_____ 4. Keeping a garden according to my brother is not an easy job.

Directions: Spin the wheel. As the wheel stops, choose a gerund and use
it orally in sentence.
