CRITERIA

Entry Points

Bachelors Masters PhD Post PhD Candidate
Main
criteria
(minimum)



Candidate must obtain a CGPA/GPA
of at least 3.70 or achieve Distinction
and must have been on the Deans list
for at least two semesters.

Any exemption from the above
requirement is at the discretion of
the Faculty who can give due
consideration to deserving
candidates who still show potentials
despite not fulfilling the
requirements stated above.

Candidate who applies for BSP while
pursuing Master Degree by
dissertation must have published at
least 2 research articles in ISI ranked
journals or 4 research articles in other
journals related to his/her field of
research.

UM graduates with CGPA 3.5 3.69
can be considered for BSP.

Exemptions can be given by specific
faculties to candidates who are
deemed to be deserving but have not
fulfilled the above requirement
completely.

Applicants who obtained a Degree
with First Class or CGPA 3.7 from
another university will be considered
on the descretion of the prospective
faculty.

Applicants who obtained CGPA of 3.7
and above at the Bachelors level is
highly encouraged to go for the fast-
track PhD program in UM rather than
continuing with a Master program.

Exemptions can be given by specific
faculties to candidates who are
deserving despite not having fulfilled
the above requirement completely
Candidate applying for BSP while
pursuing his/her PhD must have
published at least 3 research articles
in ISI ranked journals or 6 research
articles in other journals related to
his/her field of research.

Candidate applying for BSP with a
Masters degree by research must
have published 2 research articles in
ISI ranked journals or 4 research
articles in other journals related to
his/her field of research.

Candidate applying for BSP with a
Master Degree by corsework must
have obtained a CGPA of at least
3.70 for his/her final grade.

Candidate applying for BSP with a
Bachelors degree and have achieved
CGPA of 3.7 or equivalent and above
may undergo fast-track PhD under
the BSP.

Exemptions can be given by specific
faculties to candidates who are
deserving despite not having fulfilled
the above requirement completely
Candidate has published at least 6
research articles in ISI ranked journals
or has carried out research (for at
least 5 years) in current research
areas also available in UM or in a field
which can be cultivated at UM in a
short time using the limited resources
available.

will also be assessed based on:

a) Candidates involvement in
activities in the university either
at residential college, faculty or
university level.

b) Candidates interest in research.

c) Candidates interest to support
UM by contributing to the field
of research.

d) Candidates additional
knowledge and skills (for
example knowledge in IT).

e) Candidates Communication and
writing skills (in seminars and
essays).

f) Feedback from the ascertained
lecturer, coordinator and
academic advisor.

It should be noted that the University
has the final say on the selection of
candidates to this program.
Besides the main criteria, candidates
will also be assessed based on:

a) Bachelor Examination results and
other academic achievements.

b) Candidates interest in research
and contribution of solid ideas
for research.

c) Quality of research at Master
level.

d) Candidates interest to support
UM by contributing to the field of
research.

e) Candidates additional
knowledge and skills (for
example knowledge in IT).

f) Candidates Communication and
writing skills (in seminars and
essays).

g) Feedback from candidates
supervisor and/or examiner who
has been ascertained.

h) Candidates Character- such as
discpline, motivation, proactive
attitude, teamwork, patriotism
and others.
Besides the main criteria, candidates
will also be assessed based on:

a) Candidates interest and
commitment in research.

b) Quality of candidates PhD
research.

c) Assessment of candidates ideas
for research.

d) Candidates interest to support
UM by contributing to the field of
research.

e) Candidates additional
knowledge and skills (for
example knowledge in IT).

f) Candidates Communication and
writing skills (in seminars and
essays).

g) Feedback from candidates
supervisor and/or examiner who
has been ascertained.

h) Candidates Character - such as
discipline, motivation, proactive
attitude, teamwork, atriotism
and others.

Besides the main criteria, candidates
will also be assessed based on:

a) Candidates new ideas for
research.

b) Quality of research done by
candidate.

c) Candidates interest to support
UM by contributing to the field of
research.

d) Candidates experience and
knowledge in aspects which are
essential to a researcher.

e) Candidates Communication and
writing skills (in seminars and
essays).

f) Feedback from an external
assessor who has been
appointed and chosen by the
candidate.

g) Candidates Character such as
discpline, motivation, proactive
attitude, teamwork, patriotism
and others.
