OPTIMIZATION METHODS
FOR RESEARCH AND INDUSTRY
Optimization algorithm and software are gaining
popularity in research and industrial activities, primarily due to the
easy availability and affordability of high speed computer. They
are extensively used in the problems where the aim is to maximize
or minimize a certain goal like shape optimization of mechanical
components for minimum cost or maximum life, optimizing
production schedule to minimize the idle time of machine,
optimum design of aircraft components to minimize the overall
weight of the aircraft, optimization of the material properties, etc. In
many research and industrial activities, however, a naive optimal
solution is achieved by comparing a few solution created by using
prior knowledge. In many cases, this is because of the lack of
knowledge of the basic principles of optimization theory and
practice. To bridge the gap between optimization theory and
practice, the proposed workshop covers academic, research and
industrial aspects of optimization. This will help the researchers
and engineers to obtain a competitive optimum solution of their
problems.
