Other Contacts: OPTIMIZATION METHODS FOR RESEARCH AND INDUSTRY Optimization algorithm and software are gaining popularity in research and industrial activities, primarily due to the easy availability and affordability of high speed computer. They are extensively used in the problems where the aim is to maximize or minimize a certain goal like shape optimization of mechanical components for minimum cost or maximum life, optimizing production schedule to minimize the idle time of machine, optimum design of aircraft components to minimize the overall weight of the aircraft, optimization of the material properties, etc. In many research and industrial activities, however, a naive optimal solution is achieved by comparing a few solution created by using prior knowledge. In many cases, this is because of the lack of knowledge of the basic principles of optimization theory and practice. To bridge the gap between optimization theory and practice, the proposed workshop covers academic, research and industrial aspects of optimization. This will help the researchers and engineers to obtain a competitive optimum solution of their problems. COURSE CONTENTS Introduction to Optimization Integration of Optimization with FEM Implementation of Integrated Procedure Spring, Truss and Beam Elements Classical Optimization Techniques Industrial application-Hands on using Hyperworks I & II Modern Optimization Techniques Element stiffness matrix trial functions Industrial Application using Hyperworks III & IV Constant strain triangle, quadrilateral elements Industrial Application Hands on using Hyperworks V & VI Isoparametric element family Numerical Integration Nonlinearities: - Geometric nonlinearities - Large strains - Large displacements - Physical nonlinear problems - Elastic stress strain curve - Creeping and relaxation - Remaining strains - Strain hardening Faculty Dr. Ing.
