ABSTRACT

Combatting and Healing HIV/AIDS was becoming important as defined in Millenium
Development Goals. As 2011, at least 34 million people living with HIV/AIDS. And Program
of Antiretroviral Theraphy at 2010 being reputed fail and out of target. Besides that, the
problems of discrimation around people with HIV/AIDS in society was making new
challenge for them to stay alive any longer. And this problem was making them living with
lackness of social interaction.
In this paper we create a model of social media that provide realtime interaction between
people with HIV/AIDS and the other stakeholders, which will help and monitor their healing
process. Stakeholders will divided by each role in healing support, such as a volunteer that
will support for social activities (online and offline) , family as the routine evaluator and
doctor as health consultant. This model is completed with ODHA (People with HIV/AIDS)
activity report, which can be accessed by doctor and family to evaluate for next healing
decision.
In the future, this model can be implemented as real social media and programmed by the
Government and related institution for preventing lackness of social interaction between
people with HIV/AIDS.

cases of HIV/AIDS in Jakarta, that reach
1122 on 2011.And obviously thiss a large
numbers and will continue to grow on
following years if looked at the culture of
free sex, narcotic,needles sharing carelessly,
disfunction of sexual which are increasing
well in Indonesia.
And the picture below shows the number of
HIV / AIDS virus spread based on factors /
transmission activity.

Figure 2. Number of patients based on Risk
Factors

And as the last reporting, approxiamately
103 people died in June 2013. By vieweing
those figure... and will be difficult task for
the Goverment to keep pressing, preventing
and socializing the dangers of HIV/AIDS
which are not only paralyzing someone
physically but also someone psychological.

CONDITION OF PEOPLE LIVING
WITH HIV/AIDS

Most of People whose living with HIV/AIDS
have a physical condition thats susceptible
to various diseases. Besides that this situation
threatens the immune system of people who
living with HIV/AIDS which can be lead to a
death.
Actually the symptoms of AIDS can only be
seen in a person who infected with HIV after
the incubation period, which typically
between 5-7 years after infection.
During the incubation period the amount of
HIV in the blood continuously increase while
the number of T cells decreased, the immune
system will also getting damaged if lack
number of T cells.
Figure below show the life cycle of HIV :
`

Figure 3. HIV Life Cycle

HIV can infect multiple cells in your body,
including brain cells, but its main target is
the CD4 lymphocyte, also called a T-cell or
CD4 cell. When a CD4 cell is infected with
HIV, the virus goes through multiple steps to
reproduce itself and create many more virus
particles.
Besides that , most of HIV/AIDS cases
closely related with stigma of discrimination
problem. Often, HIV/AIDS stigma or
discrimination is expressed in accordance
with one or more other stigmas, particularly
those associated with homosexuality,
bisexuality, promiscuity, sex workers, and
intravenous drug use. Those problem was
making mostly rejection of people with
HIV/AIDS in the society.

WHAT THEY NEEDS ?

Antiretroviral Theraphy is one of the solution
to treat people with HIV/AIDS.Antiretroviral
Theraphy (ART) is consist by the
combination of at least three Antiretroviral
(ARV) drugs which maximally surpress HIV
virus and stop progression of HIV disease.
WHO and UNAIDS estimate that at least 15
million people were in need of antiretroviral
therapy in 2011.
Health of people with HIV/AIDS is not only
depend on the use of Antiretroviral Therapy ,
but also will depend on psychological
condition and the quality / pattern of their
daily social interaction.
Stigma or Discrimination in society will only
worsen their condition (People with
HIV/AIDS) , esspecially when theyre
already in phase of AIDS.

SOCIAL INTERACTION VS HIV/AIDS

Stigma or discrimination were being a
challanges for individual with HIV/AIDS to
stay alive any longer. Its may not impact to
the patient physically but will attack their
psychological condition , making them feel
depressed and lost their lifes.
Theraphy using medicine not significantly
increasing their condition, however basically
people who living with a diseases need their
social support to improve their quality of
health.
Most of people with HIV/AIDS lost their
social interaction while stigma and
discrimination occured everywhere in their
living environment.Even, not only
discriminated by the society but also their
family which feeling losing face cause of
this stigma of HIV/AIDS.
However, individual with HIV/AIDS
actually need a treatment of social interaction
on the society and their families. And since
few years ago, Indonesian Government
actively socialize impact of people with
HIV/AIDS discrimination, and through a
tagline Jauhi Virusnya Bukan Orangnya
The Government invite everyone to care of
individual with HIV/AIDS,encourage,
support them and without any discrimination.

USING SOCIAL MEDIA AS THE
SOLUTION

Social Media is refer to interaction among
people, such as create, sharing, or exchange
any information through virtual communities
and networks.Nowdays, social media
identically with mobile digital platform
which using internet and its application to
connect with all people around of world.
Social media growth as well as internet
technology development .According to
Nielsen , internet users continue to spend alot
time to access social media site than any
other website. In US , people spent about 30
% to 121 bilion minutes their time to access
Social Media site through PC or Mobile
Devices on July 2012, its increase about 50
% than July 2011.
According to Kaplan and Haenlein on
Business Horizon (2010) article , Social
Media classified into seven different type :
1. Collaborative Project
2. Blog and Microblog
3. Social New Networking
4. Content Communities
5. Social Networking Site
6. Virtual Games Worlds
7. Virtual Social Worlds
And nowdays, Social Networking Site such
as Facebook becoming popular around
people in the world.
Social media have positive and negative
impact for every users, in positive impact a
social media can be way to make friends or
relation, reducing communication barriers ,
and many more. But in negative sides,
someone can be lead to addiction if they
cant control using of social media. Besides
that according to the Nucleus research
reported that Facebook cutting 1.5 % off
office productivity and while Morse was
claim that British company lost 2.2 billion a
year cause of the social phenomenon.
In this situation Social Media can be solution
for individual with HIV/AIDS to start
interaction even only with their fellows. The
positive function of social media will be
capital for growing and stimulating them to
become more open minded, joy interaction
and feeling fun just like commonly people in
normal life. Besides that the quality of
interaction between individual with same
condition or diseases will be better if they
can filling each others with motivation or
spirit to live any longer together.
According to the Gothenburg Research with
research about Sweden largest Facebook
Study on 2012, which engage
sample consisted of 1011 participants. Out of
these, 335 were men (33.1 %) and 676 were
women (66.9 %) and average age was 32.6
years, show the positive value of the
important of using facebook.

the healing process of People with
HIV/AIDS as the target of application users.

their timeline.

ANALYSIS

HIV/AIDS is not only a diseases which can
handled by medicine theraphy, this virus not
only attack someone physical but also their
mental and psychological, moreover this
situation is complicated with stigma of
discrimination in the society.
The core of healing process besides
medicine theraphy is to stimulate them to
keep on interaction and also do activity just
like common people normally.
Social Media can be one of the solution,
where they can brave to express, start
interaction with their fellows, and the other
stakeholders who want to encourage them.
This Social Media models is a litle shape of
recontruction with the others previous
model, which connecting peoples into one
platform of social media (Website or Mobile
Application). Basically everyone is acquitted
to express themselves as long still in prevail
norms on society.
This Model will release individual with
HIV/AIDS to start interaction with their
fellows, greet each others, uploading and
sharing their moment or photo and many
more , and according to Amy L. Gonzales,
interaction on social media will increase
someone Self Esteem to themselves ,
besides that give an impact of self
confidence and will be more motivated to be
alive , also reduce the factor of depression.
Features of this model will support users to
actively making interaction, and will help the
others stakeholders to monitorize their
psychological condition through their
activation on this social platform.

S.W.O.T Analysis
This S.W.O.T Analysis is according to study
of literature and using others references from
any related source.
Strength
People with HIV/AIDS need quantity and
quality of social interaction like commonly
people in normal life, so this model can be a
trigger of solution to stimulate them to start
any interaction.
Weakness
They often getting away with the world due
their unconfident situation, besides that when
someone already in phase of AIDS ,they are
prefer to stay in bed and lose spirit to make
interaction.

Opportunity
Thiss good opportunity to them for breaking
the barrier of communication, and through
social media they can interact with
anyone/their fellows in everywhere.
Threat
Unevenly support and infrastructure will
effect unequal of implementation, and
besides that it will unbalance social
interaction through digital media with direct
interaction on real environment.

CONCLUSION

The treatment of People with HIV/AIDS is
not only depend on medicine theraphy as we
know as ART cause HIV/AIDS not only
attack someone physical but also the
psychological which causing of big
depression and will be more paralyze them.
People with HIV/AIDS needs society
support because social interaction will help
them to be more open , and feeling spirit to
live any longer. But this was tackled by
stigma and discrimination situation which
make them rejected on society.
Social media is an opportunity to fulfill their
social interaction needs, and with this model
will let them to express, make interaction and
upload their moment with their fellows in
same condition.
This model should be considered carefully if
someday implementation, The Government
and the related institution have to make
assessment and trial of using before
implemented to real target (People with
HIV/AIDS).
