Advanced: Reading Comprehension
Though the game of soccer flourishes throughout most of the world, it
has been ignored by many in the United States. In recent years, however,
that trend has been changing. Soccer's popularity is now starting to grow
in the U.S.
Soccer is a game of skill and control. In a match between evenly skilled
teams, low scores are not uncommon. These low scores leave many
Americans with the impression that the game is boring and uneventful.
For those who follow and understand the game, nothing could be further
from the truth. As people become more accustomed to the game, they
become more aware of the skills and strategies required to play well.
Over the years there has been a steady influx of immigrants from
countries where soccer is the national sport. These people bring with
them a tradition of playing and watching soccer, which helps to increase
soccers exposure.
