Whats the significance of Kosala-samyutta as series of advice for the spiritual

and social development?

The Kosala-samyutta is a discourse containing many small discourses which are fully
instructions and advices about how to live a good life, that will be beneficial for the life next,
and nature of worldly beings and samsara, preached to King Kosala. In this samyutta the
Buddha shows the root causes of un-satisfactoriness and the advocate a way out of these.
According to Buddhism, the human motivational action falls into two aspects: moral and
immoral. The three roots of immoral actions as, Raga, Dosa, and Moha, while their opposites
the moral roots are: Caga, Metta, and Pabba. According to Buddhism these three immoral
roots when they arise, arise for ones harm, suffering, and discomfort. !or example, if we dont
get the things that we desire "raga#, or get the things that we dislike, then we generate hatred
for their destruction "dosa#. And the delusion "moha# binds us in illusion cant seeing the true
reality of the existence of Samsara "circle of birth and death#.
$Greed, hatred and delusion, arisen from within oneself,
as its own fruit destroys the reed% &'usalasamyutta, ()*
+o all these immoral factors lead to un-satisfactoriness to the beings in the society. There are
many people who have a lot of wealth, but due to their greediness, they misuse them. They
dont give any thing to any body, neither to their own parents, friends, etc. Because they misuse
their properties, either 'ings ta'e it away, or thieves ta'e it away, or fire burn it, etc.
$As cool water in a desolate place, Evaporates without being drunk,
..That noble man goes to a heavenly state%
Thus this ,uotation clearly shows some ethical advices for how to en-oy worldly happiness in a
proper way, and ma'e a good use of wealth.
Buddhism always emphasizes self restraint, taming oneself through mental cultivation and
mental development. But Buddhism does not say to cling to the sensual pleasures for they
dont lead to good. they bind us in Samsara. /any people they dont reali0e it. They cling to
them thin'ing sensual pleasures are real. The Buddha says:
$Enamoured with their pleasure and wealth, Greedy, dazed by sensual pleasures,
or bad indeed is the result%.
According to Buddhism, everything is impermanent. The Buddha says everything we obtain
wealth, gold, silver etc, have leave behind when we death. 1othing is permanent. $All beings
are sub-ect to death, terminated in death, and cannot escape death%
$All beings will die, for life ends in death..
!erits are the support for living beings "when they arise# in the other world%.
+o, the Buddha advices to wor' hard with diligence. As we can see in the ahaparinibbana
sutta as well as in the Kosala-samyutta the Buddha says:
$The wise person who is diligent secures both kinds good. $s called a person of wisdom%.
The Buddha says that only the 2hamma is permanent:
$The beautiful chariots of kings wear out, This body too undergoes decay,
%ut the &hamma of the good does not decay' (o the good proclaim along with the good)
Thus from the above facts we can see the Kosala3samyutta is a discourse full of moral advices
pertaining to social as well as spiritual development.
