Introduction The Telecor ACP-2B Series 100 Control Panel uses colour "flow chart" graphics to allow Operating Personnel to use the equipment with flexibility and ease. The ACP-2B enables the School Office to transmit room calls and Program Distributions via one of two communication channels that are colour coded as follows: Yellow for the Intercom Channel, and Green for the Program Channel. Transmitting Programs from the Office to Selected Rooms or All Rooms is completed, as follows: 1) Select the appropriate Program Source (MIC. 1, MIC. 2, AUX, PHONO, TUNER). 2) Select the required classrooms on the Selector Panel. 3) Select the appropriate Transmit Mode (All Rooms or Selected Rooms). For complete details, see section D on Operating Instructions. Two-way classroom communications also follow a similar procedure. The Office Personnel must select the appropriate classrooms on the yellow Intercom Channel and operate the Talk/Listen Switch. This function is controlled by the Office eliminating such problems as: Call Switches left on in the classrooms, or problems due to unfamiliarity with the system. The classroom party does not have to operate any devices during conversation. To contact the Office, the classroom party must press the call button on the Call Switch. The Office will be alerted to the call by a tone signal over the Monitor Speaker, and an illuminated LED above the room number on the Selector Panel. Emergency All-Call Announcements are initiated by pressing the red "Emergency All-Call" pushbutton and speaking directly into the Monitor Speaker. This Emergency function has automatic priority over any previously selected Program. The ACP-2B will aid the Operator to visually monitor the Program output level to the classroom(s) by use of the Program Output Level Meter. The Operator may also monitor the output by listening to the Program over the built-in Monitor Speaker. The Control Panel comes equipped with two microphone input selectors which allows microphones to be placed in adjoining rooms (i.e. Principal's Office) to provide added flexibility. Apart from the Intercom function, the system has been designed to include additional features, as well. A built-in time signal generator will send a tone to each classroom loudspeaker for class changes, recess, etc. This may be controlled through the school's Clock System. The tone is accessed by a rear-mounted terminal strip. The Control Panel comes equipped with a classroom Privacy feature which sounds a tone in the classroom prior to any incoming voice communications. This prevents monitoring of classroom activities without a teacher's knowledge. Two independent channels are implemented to enable distribution of more than one Program at a time. For example, the Cafeteria may require uninterrupted music while the remainder of the school will needs access to the Office via the Intercom Channel. This feature is easily achieved by following the colour-coded system: While the cafeteria would be positioned on Program A (green), the remainder of the school would have access to the Intercom Channel (yellow). Page 2 Administrative Communication Systems B. Installation B.1 Unpacking Inspect the shipping container and unit for indications of improper handling. The unit has been checked before leaving the factory. If any damage is apparent, make an immediate claim to the dealer or distributor from whom it was purchased. B.2 Power Supply Power to the ACP-2B is provided by the PS2808B Power Supply. This unit provides both the 28 VDC and 8 VDC required for the Control Panel. Wiring connections are outlined in the block diagram S-N19-A. 18 AWG cable should be used for the 28 VDC connection, and 22 AWG for the 8 VDC connection. Connections for the 28 Volt supply are made at the "+24VDC" and "COM" (Terminals 43 and 46), and for the 8 Volt supply are made at the "+8VDC" and "-8VDC" (Terminals 57 and 58), at the rear of the ACP-2B. B.3 Program Channel "A" Input Connections Microphone Inputs: Two microphones may be connected to the unit via the rear panel terminal strip. Dynamic, low impedance microphones must be used and connected at Terminals 22 "C", 24 "MIC2 H", 25 "MIC2 L", and 23 "C", 26 "MIC1 H", 27 "MIC1 L". Phono Input: An input for a ceramic cartridge phonograph is provided on the rear panel terminal strip at Terminals 20 "PHONO C" and 21 "PHONO H". Auxiliary Input: An input for connection of additional Program Sources is provided at the rear panel terminal strip. Signal sources of 300 mV to 500 mV levels with input impedances of 600 ohms to 10 k Ohms may be connected to this input (Terminals 16 "AUX C" and 17 "AUX H"). Tuner Input: Provisions for the connection of the TC-1PD AM/FM/Cassette Player are provided at the rear panel terminal strip (Terminals 18 "TUNER C" and 19 "TUNER H"). The TC-1PD requires a 15 VDC source to operate, which is available from the terminal strip as well (Terminals 31 "C" and 32 "+15VDC"). Note: When making connections to the various inputs, make sure that correct polarity is observed. The terminal marked "C" is the common of the two connections, and connected internally to the negative power bus. Program Output: (Terminals 61 "H OUT" and 60 "C PROG") The output of Program Channel "A" is to be connected to an auxiliary input of a Power Amplifier. The output level of this output is 1.5 V into 10 K ohms. Telecor ACP-2B Series 100 Control Panel Installation Manual Page 3 When installing an older TCA-60 Amplifier (lower than Revision 1.1, shipped prior to November 1990) with a newer ACP-2B System (Revision 5 or higher), make sure to install a 100 resistor at the "R143" ident on the ACP-2B. R143 is located on the ACP-2B board outside the chassis, beside the ACP-2B terminations pins. If R143 is not installed, the Amplifier gain will be too large resulting in a distorted audio output. Resistor R143 will compensate for this gain level, producing the proper output level. Since newer TCA-60s are built to accommodate for this gain level by design, R143 is not needed when using Revision 1.1 or higher Amplifiers. Note: It is necessary to open the Amplifier Chassis to view the Revision Number of the TCA-60 board. The newer TCA-60s have R29 changed from 1 k to 10 k, and R21 changed from 33 k to 3.3 k. Amp A In: (Terminals 4 "AMP A IN" and 5) The output of the Program A Amplifier is connected to these two terminals. A balanced 25 V output configuration should be used. When choosing an Amplifier, be sure to calculate the proper power rating for the given speaker load conditions. Remember that this amplifier should be capable of distributing the Program to all of the speakers in the system. Amp B In: (Terminals 10 "AMP B IN" and 11) The output of the Program B Amplifier is connected to these two terminals. A balanced 25 volt output configuration should be used. A Program B Amplifier is only used when a second program channel is provided by the ACP-3 and in conjunction with an SB104-25A Selector Panel. B.4 Connections to the SB103-25 and SB104-25 Selector Panels Program A Bus: Terminals 6 "PROG A OUT" and 7 provide connection to the "A" audio bus on the Selector Panel. Program B Bus: Terminals 14 "PROG B OUT" and 15 provide connection to the "B" audio bus on the SB104-25 Selector Panel. Off Bus: Terminals 12 "OFF" and 13 "OFF" provide connections to the "OFF" audio bus on the Selector Panel. This particular bus is utilized for both Emergency and All-Call Program Announcements. Intercom: Terminals 66 "INTERCOM" and 67 "INTERCOM" provide connections to the Intercom audio bus on the Selector Panel. Common: A 22 AWG wire is required between the COM (Terminal 47) and the "G" terminals on the Selector Panel. 8 VDC: (Terminals 57 "-8VDC" and 58 "+8VDC") The Selector Panel requires this Power Source to operate the LED Call Annunciators. Connect the "-" terminal on the SB103-25 to "-8VDC" (Terminal 56 or 57) on the ACP-2B and the "+" terminal on the SB103-25 to "ANN" (Terminal 59) on the ACP-2B. 1 The TUNER button, or any other Program Source, can be selected rather than the MIC 1 or MIC 2 source. The MIC sources are designed to be used for initiating Remote Pages from a microphone that is connected to the system. For other applications (i.e. activation of external chimes), the other Program Source buttons may be used. Page 4 Administrative Communication Systems B.5 Ancillary Function Connections Clock Tone: (Terminals 28 "C" and 29 "CLOCK TONE") The ACP-2B contains a built-in single tone generator which may be used to send a tone to all classroom speakers. A dry contact closure between Terminals 28 and 29 will initiate the tone for the duration of the closure. Most master clocks contain a set of contacts for this purpose. The tone is sent automatically via the OFF bus. Optional Tone Generator MTG-7B: (Terminals 48 "C" and 49 "X", 50 "Y" and 51 "Z") The optional MTG-7B may be used in conjunction with the ACP-2B. For further details outlining the MTG-7B connections, see the MTG-7B Tone Generator Installation Guide. Page Relay: (Terminals 33 "PAGE RLY" and 28 "C") An All-Call Page may be initiated from a remote microphone location with a closure of dry contacts. This effectively grounds the "PAGE RLY" terminal which pulls in the "All-Call" relay. The appropriate Program Source selection (MIC 1 or MIC 2) must still be pressed on the front panel of the system. 1 Jumper JP26 should be installed on the ACP-2B board, for simplified user operations, specifically for performing Remote All-Call Pages. This jumper was introduced on Revision 9 ACP-2B boards to provide compatibility between older and newer revisions of the ACP-2B. On pre-revision 9 ACP- 2B systems, Remote All-Call Pages were performed by pressing MIC X, followed by Selected Rooms on the front panel of the ACP-2B. Then, the microphone was activated in order to make the Page. If JP26 is installed, you do not have to press the Selected Rooms button on the front panel to initiate the Remote All-Call Page. Note: For more complex paging configurations, please refer to the PR-1 Priority Module Installation Guide. Jumper JP26 on Revision 9.1 ACP-2B boards is located on the left side of the board, close to the Control Panel speaker. On Revision 9 ACP-2B boards, this jumper is labelled JP3. For older revisions of ACP-2B, special modifications are required. Please contact Telecor Technical Support for details. All-Call Override: (Terminals 3 "ACO" and 42 "+24VDC") This terminal acts as an active low upon initiation of the All-Call function. It may be used to initiate remote relays to control Gym Bridging Controls, Remote Sound Systems, etc., during All-Call Paging Announcements. Be sure to connect the suppression diode on the relay with the correct polarity. The cathode side of the diode should be connected to Terminal 42 "+24VDC. Monitor: Terminals 44 "MONITOR OUT" and 45 "MONITOR IN" are used to interconnect the ACP-3 Control Panel to the ACP-2B allowing monitoring of the ACP-3 Program (see the ACP-3 Installation Manual). When the ACP-2B is used by itself, Terminals 44 and 45 must be jumpered together to allow monitoring of the Program material. Telecor ACP-2B Series 100 Control Panel Installation Manual Page 5 ZPP Tone Out: Terminals 8 "ZPP" and 9 "ZPP" are to be provided for use with the ZPP-6 Time Zone Panel. For details, see the ZPP-6 Time Zone Panel Installation Guide. Tone Repeater (TR-1B): An optional TR-1B Tone Repeater unit is available for use in conjunction with the ACP-2B. This unit will enable the call-in tone from a classroom to repeatedly sound every 30 seconds until the call is answered. For details, see the TR-1B Tone Repeater Installation Guide. (Optional) PR-1 Priority Module: (Terminals 34 "AUDIO", 35 "AUDIO", 36 "TEL", 37 "MIC", 38 "MIC H", 39 "MIC C" and 40 "MIC L") The PR-1 may be used in conjunction with the ACP-2B. For details, see the PR-1 Priority Module Installation Guide. C. System Controls and Adjustments C.1 Front Panel Controls Program Channel "A" has five pushbuttons used to select a specific Program Source (MIC 1, MIC 2, AUX, TUNER, PHONO). The "SELECTED ROOMS" pushbutton transmits the selected Program to specific rooms selected on the green Program Channel on the SB103-25. The "ALL ROOMS" pushbutton transmits the selected Program to all rooms, utilizing the OFF bus on the SB103-25.
The PROGRAM VOLUME control adjusts the audio level of the Program Channel "A". Four level indicator LEDS are provided to use as a guide to indicate the Program output level. The Program volume should be adjusted until the "0" LED lights on the peak signals. If the red "+3" LED lights, the amplifier is being over driven. The MONITOR VOLUME control allows the selected Program to be monitored over the Control Panel. The volume control sets the listening level of the Monitor Speaker only, and has no affect on any other levels or functions. The "INTERCOM" (PRESS TO TALK) pushbutton is used to control the direction of speech when using the yellow Intercom Channel for individual classroom communications. The pushbutton is pressed to "Talk" and released to "Listen". Classrooms are selected on an individual basis via the SB103-25 Selector Panel. By pressing the "EMERGENCY" pushbutton and speaking into the microphone, a voice message can automatically be transmitted to all classrooms. Any Program which has been previously selected will be muted during operation of the switch. Page 6 Administrative Communication Systems C.2 Installation Adjustments Three controls are accessible from the rear chassis for adjustment: TALK adjusts the outgoing audio level to classrooms for two-way Intercom communications only. To increase the level, turn the control clockwise when facing the back of the chassis. LISTEN adjusts the incoming audio level from classrooms for two-way Intercom communications. To increase the level, turn the control clockwise when facing the back of the chassis. OFFSET is set to balance the Intercom lines to ground. If the lines are found to be noisy, this control may require adjustment. The above controls have been factory set. If field adjustments are required, have an assistant originate a call from a classroom and adjust these levels until a comfortable listening level is achieved. C.3 Internal Factory Settings There are several pots located on the ACP-2B board which are factory set. These should not be adjusted unless a problem becomes apparent in the field. Listed below are the various controls and their function. Tone Level (P4): Sets the level of the Annunciator, Privacy and Clock Tones. To increase the level, turn the pot counter clockwise. Mic (P1): Sets the gain of the microphone pre-amplification. To increase the level, turn the pot clockwise. Led Meter (P5): Sets the gain of the LED driver amplifier. It has been set to produce a 0 dB indication when the Program voltage is .707 Volts RMS. Under normal operating conditions, the signal at the speakers will be at a comfortable listening level when the "0" LED illuminates on the peak passages of a Program. The Program volume is usually set close to the mid-position. Supervisory/Pre-announce Tone: The ACP-2B has a built-in Supervisory Tone. This tone is activated at regular intervals during an Intercom conversation. If this is not desired, remove jumpers JP11 and JP12. JP11 and JP12 are located on the left side of the board across from the P11 (TLK), P10 (LISTEN) and P9 (OFFSET) potentiometers. Telecor ACP-2B Series 100 Control Panel Installation Manual Page 7 D.
