AK Kerani is a knit fashion company that sells high quality handmade

products to promote knitting as a therapeutic activity for those struggling with

anxiety and depression.

With this in mind, we actively work to dispel stigmas surrounding mental
illness by promoting open and honest dialogue around mental health. We
encourage our fans and followers to live up to their ideal selves, achieving a
healthy and productive mental state. We are committed to the sale of our
products in order to advocate for mental health awareness.

AK Kerani was founded in the memory of Atindra Kumar, a close mentor and
family member of the companys CEO. As a successful businessman and
loving uncle, he found great purpose in the world despite his lifelong struggle
with mental illness. His adventurous spirit and kind heart will always serve as
an inspiration to keep the company growing and its mission alive.

Live Bold. Live Freely. Live Candid.

Audience
In a world where 1100 college students die from suicide each year
(activeminds.org), mental health is a pertinent issue. Todays
impressionable young generation is faced with unreasonable pressures
from society concerning their job prospects, appearance and social
standards. A study in the journal of Psychological Medicine suggests that
stigma against mental illness prevents 75 percent of those needing help
from seeking it. One of the goals of AK Kerani is to encourage every
individual to engage in the pursuit of a healthy mental state and balanced
mind. However, studies have shown that young people ages 17-25 are
most susceptible to mental illness and severe symptoms in relation.

Partners
AK Kerani has built partnerships with several non-profit organizations in
order to have a more hands-on approach to social engagement. We have
supported campus events hosted by ActiveMinds, an organization that
focuses on raising mental health awareness among college students. We
have also collaborated with NoStigmas, a global non-profit movement that
promotes mental wellness, on a series of videos discussing the benefits of
arts therapy. AK Kerani has developed as a company through its
involvement with Northwestern Universitys Global Engagement Summit,
which gives young social entrepreneurs the tools and mentors to grow. AK
continues to build its network of partners in order for its mission to have
the most impact.

I just bought a scarf a couple of minutes after seeing a short video clip of
you speaking about your work - 1) because the products are beautiful and
2) because you are so sincere & passionate about it. I'm so impressed.

Read the article in the Daily and was immediately intrigued and impressed!
I am an SCS student and knitter/crocheter. I have been telling friends for a
while now how crafting can improve your mental health. Kudos for your
work!

Campaigns
AK Kerani releases periodic campaigns to engage fans through social
media. Our most successful campaign to date was the Fall 2013, "My Ideal
Campaign", which dramatically increased the company's presence on social
media while encouraging fans to think about the state of mind in which they
feel ideal. Participants filled in the blank of the statement Im Ideal
When! and their sentence was superimposed on top of a relevant
photograph and shared on social media. Examples ranged from Im ideal
when fishing to Im ideal when I open myself up to love.
relax, socialize and get involved with the production of our handmade goods.

We also launched a mini-campaign for NEDAwareness Week in which we
marketed our infinity scarves while inspiring girls to focus on traits of theirs
that are infinite as opposed to the shape of their physical bodies. Examples
ranged from Inspiration is Infinite to Storytelling is Infinite.
