Everything You Need to Know About CEED

CEED is short for Common Entrance Examination for Design, and is a national level entrance
exam in India conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay or IIT, Bombay on
behalf of the Ministry of HRD, Department of Education and Govt of India.
The exam is the parameter for entrance into the post graduate M.Des course offered by IIT
Bombay, IIT Kanpur, IISc Bangalore, IIT Delhi, Industrial Design Centre and CPDM. It tests
design aptitude along with the ability of visual perception, drawing and communication skills.
Qualification
You must have a Bachelors degree in Engineering, Architecture or Design or equivalent. 5 year
program at CEPT called an Interior Design Professional diploma, 5 year professional program of
BFAGD Art, Professional Diploma from NID, and a Masters degree in Arts/Science/Computer
Applications with minimum 55% marks (50% for SC/ST) with an aptitude for design, are also
considered as necessary
qualifications for appearing for
CEED.
Eligibility
The good news is that there is no
age limit for taking CEED and
you can take it any number of
times. Only a fixed number of assistantships are available to students based on merit. The rest
of the candidates are supposed to take care of their own finances and scholarships.
Date of the Exam
CEED is conducted every year in the last week of January and the beginning of February. It is a
three hour test conducted between 9:30 am and 12:30 pm.
Exam Structure - IIT CEED Exam Preparation
The exam is held in 2 parts: first part tests drawing skills, creativity, visual perception, aesthetic
sensibility and problem identification; the second part involves objective type questions and is
the assessment of general awareness and comprehension.
CEED results which are indicated as percentile score are emailed to the qualifying candidates in
the first week of April. This score is valid for the period of 2 years.
Admissions for the M.Des program are announced in all major newspapers every year around
the months of February, March and April. The announcement is made along with the admission
announcement of other post graduate courses offered by IIT Bombay & Delhi, University of
Roorkee and IISc Bangalore. The test in held in May and June followed by interviews. No
remuneration is offered to applicants for the trip. Within a week after the interviews, final
results are declared.
Lastly, your CEED score is not the final deal for admissions. Once you have received your result,
you will be required to apply to the IITs and IISc for admission and submit the CEED result as
one of the criteria.
