Radio Reception
13
Distortion, interference and lack of signal
clarity, are often attributed to a fault in the
radio - this is rarely the case.
Problems of this kindareusuallycausedby
phenomenasuchas atmospheric conditions,
signal strength, hillyterrain, tall buildings,
bridges and evenelectrical interferencefrom
power lines.
Please remember: A car radio receives
signals whilethevehicleis in motion (unlike
adomestic set) - constantlychanging
directionand movingawayfrom, or nearer
to, thetransmitter whilst negotiatingterrain
with widelydifferingreception
characteristics. Someinterferenceis to be
expectedfromtimeto time.
FM transmitters canonlybroadcast over a
limitedrangeand good, clear signals will
onlybereceivedin theimmediateareaof the
transmitter. Whentravelling, it maybe
necessaryto re-tunetheradio fromtimeto
time, to offset theeffects of movingfrom
onetransmitter areato another.
Thebroadcast rangefor good stereo
reception(usuallywithina30 to 40 mile
radius of thetransmitter) is noticeablyless
than it is for mono.
FM Signals (likelight waves) travel in a
straight line, so largeobstacles, suchas tall
buildings, canshieldthecar fromthesignal
causingdistortionor loss of reception
(knownas deadspots).
Distortioncanalso occur if FM signals
receiveddirectlyfromthetransmitter mix
with signals whichhavebeenreflectedby
obstructions suchas mountains, hills and tall
buildings (this is known as multi-path
distortion).

ICE 0054
Useonlygood qualitytapes with amaximum

Cassette player
In use, thetapeheadaccumulates dust and

thetapeheadperiodically(after
approximatelyevery20 hours playingtime)

NOTE: Because your cassette player is fitted
with auto reverse, the cleaning cassette must
be played in both directions.
Thetapewill requiremorefrequent cleaning
in winter, as contaminationis greater in
conditions of lowtemperatureand increased
humidity. However, theuseof good quality
tapes, keeps thebuildup to aminimum.
Cassette tapes

Always storecassettes in their boxes

when not in use.

Never leavecassettes in thevehicle

Caring for Compact Discs
16
IMPORTANT

Use standard 12cm CDs only.

DO NOT use irregularly shaped or

damaged CDs - these may damage
the compact disc changer.

8cm CD singles must NOT be used,

even if a CD adaptor is fitted.

The CD autochanger should not be

used in temperatures outside the
range -10 C to +60 C.

In the unlikely event that the CD

autochanger overheats, CD OVER
TEMP will be displayed - change to
radio or tape mode until the unit has
cooled.

The CD autochanger should only be

used as described - any other
application or method of use could
result in the user being exposed to
invisible laser radiation exceeding the
limit of laser class 1.
NOTE: Additional magazines can be
obtained from a Land Rover dealer.
CARING FOR COMPACT DISCS
