Thematic Apperception Test

Date Given
August 05, 2014
Behavioral Observation

The subject was wearing a tidy, complete uniform intended for a psychology student (white
blouse and pants) with brown doll shoes. She has chin length copper brown hair, cascading
without adornment and was observe wearing a black pearl earrings and a black and gold
wristwatch. Her cleanliness was noted (clean finger nails, fresh odor, and neat attire). Her facial
expression shows a mixture of nervousness and excitement. Her posture was firm and shows
modest movement every now and then (combing her hair through her hands, shaking her
knees, etc.). Her voice was fairly loud making it audible and understandable although her initial
adjustment may show some anxiety, but she manages to control it as the session goes on.
Overall, her appearance was pleasing and her sensory and motor proficiency (Vision, hearing,
Manual control) is marked as good.
The subject was given the Thematic Apperception Test and was asked to write a story of the
pictures shown. She was given proper instruction to the test and she seems oriented and
completely understands why she was asked to take the given test. She was very interested and
cooperative in taking the test although she seems anxious about her story. (i.e., Baka
pagtawanan mo story ko?). She enjoys and works enthusiastically although she kept on asking
if she had to write the story in an English language or not (i.e., English ba o tagalog?). It was
noted that although she was indecisive and frequently asking, she analyzed the picture intently
and write the first thing that comes on her mind. Although there were some pictures that she
finds difficult to write a story about, she still persist to do it and was strongly motivated to
success. The subject seems doubtful of her stories and feels insecure about it. She may show
some disappointments when failing to write a story efficiently, but she accepts it realistically as
something expected. She also shows difficulty in shifting from one idea to another and always
asks others about their stories (i.e., Anong inilagay mong story dun sa Blank card?) Although
she shows inferiority, it was observed that she has a good eye and hand coordination (her
penmanship was fine-looking and readable.)
After completing the task with so much effort and diligently, the subject was asked to explain
why she came up with that kind of storyline. She was indecisive at first, as to whether she
should give details about her stories. But after a few minutes of deciding, she explained that she
relates her story with her life and towards what she feels (i.e., tinry kong tignan yung mga
pictures in relation sa life ko). The subject has a good performance rate and has an excellent
expressive ability. She has a typical speech pattern tending towards taciturnity and is
moderately attentive and somewhat confident but exercises doubts. She has sufficient
motivation and strives for success but not at full pitch. She has no miscellaneous indicators
such as inappropriate laughter, private jokes, emotional outbursts and hallucinations but she
tends to be over critical of her works. When praise, she shows renewed and increased self-
confidence, but she still recognize limits of ability. Overall, her complete performance and
results can be a reliable source for the subjects behavior potential.
