Provisional Program

Invited Visiting Professors

Jaume Masia
Hospital de la Santa Creu I Sant Pau, Barcelona
Jaume Masia is Chief of Plastic surgery and Professor in
Barcelona. He trained throughout the world including at
Canniesburn and the Queen Victoria Hospital, East
Grinstead. He is particularly well known world wide for his
research in perforator mapping, lower limb perforator
flaps and free lymph node transfer. His papers on the
role of CT for perforator mapping were seminal in the
development of this field.

He will provide a keynote lecture on Microsurgery at the
Hospital de la Santa Creu I Sant Pau and Perforator
Mapping

Rod Dunn
Salisbury District Hospital, UK
Rod Dunn has a long association with Canniesburn
hospital having completed much of his training there. He
is particularly well known for his work with military trauma
patients, and is formerly of the Royal Navy and Royal
Marines. His work with the care of the military trauma
patients at Headley Court resulted in the award of Health
Care Civilian of the year. He has travelled widely during
his training and was the first Bruce Bailey Fellow at
Ganga Hospital in India.

He will provide a keynote lecture on
Management of Military Trauma Patients
Microsurgical reconstruction of major hand trauma

Invited Pan Scotland Faculty

We are delighted to have the following experts come to teach on the following
areas

David Soutar
Retired Consultant Plastic Surgeon and Head of Department
Canniesburn Plastic Surgery Unit
Glasgow

David Soutar is a retired consultant at the Canniesburn Plastic Surgery Unit,
Glasgow, and is world famous for head and neck reconstruction. He was the
first to describe the use of the free radial forearm flap in intra-oral
reconstruction in 1983. He has practiced in plastic surgery for many decades
and has seen the transformation from waltzing flaps, axial flaps through to
free flaps in head and neck reconstruction. Although he has retired he
continues to be very active in educating the next generation of Plastic
Surgeons.

Wee Lam Edinburgh, UK.
Consultant Plastic Surgeon and Congenital Hand Surgeon, and former Fellow
at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, Taiwan.
Specialist interests: Congenital hand, vascularized joint transfer

Local Teaching Faculty

The teaching faculty will consist of several Consultant Plastic Surgeons from
the Canniesburn Plastic Surgery unit, who will aid the trainees during the
cadaveric dissection. Each Consultant has a sub-specialty microsurgical
interest.

Please see our website for a list of our consultants and their specialties, some
of whom are involved in the flap course teaching
http://www.canniesburn.org/consultants.html

Scope and Level of Course

The course is aimed at the intermediate and advanced trainee and will cover
all aspects of free, pedicled and perforator flaps. It is also relevant to
consultants as it will cover more advanced flaps. Flaps covered will include
basic workhorse free and pedicled flaps, but also include more advanced and
topical flaps such as vascularized joint transfer, medial sural artery perforator
flaps, PAP flap and medial femoral condyle flap.

The course aims to provide as much hands on cadaveric dissection as
possible, with guidance by internationally recognized microsurgeons.
Although we provide a reading list, the course teaching should cover the
essential aspects of flap anatomy, dissection and utilization.

We think this course provides more than any other flap course, due to the
extensive faculty and the distinguished visiting Professors we have invited.
Feedback from candidates from our last courses in Sept 2013 and April 2014
was excellent.
