Aim
To develop the practical skills and knowledge in the use of compressed air breathing apparatus and
requirements for working in vessels, confined spaces and industrial settings.
Objectives
On successful completion of this course, the delegates will have a greater understanding or the breathing
apparatus entry control officer role, safe wearing of breathing apparatus, emergency arrangements, testing
cleaning and general maintenance of associated equipment including record keeping.

Achievement Measure
This is a competency based course which is achievement measured using continual assessment, skill
stations, question and answer papers and final practical assessment criteria. A certificate of competence is
issued on successful completion of the course which lasts for 2 years.
Long Term Evaluation
After successful completion of this course the delegates will have a much greater understanding of the
breathing apparatus command and control procedures and be competent in the practical use of full
duration working breathing apparatus sets. These skills will ensure much safer working practices and
encourage a safer working environment when using compressed air breathing apparatus in the workplace.
It is strongly advised that delegates refresh these skills annually.
