The EKCO.L1N is equipped with an expansion vessel (capacity: 6l, pressure: 1,5 bar). The expansion vessel is
sufficient against the following capacities of the heating system at given temperatures of the medium and central
heating system pressure.
Installing the boiler
8
Installer instruction manual
Its recommended for electric instal-
lation with thermostatic radiator
valves to apply the differential
pressure relief valve. It allows the
system to keep minimal flow of
medium through the boiler and
reduce noises in installation during
the thermostatic valves closing. The
valve must be installed in bypass
conduit (before the boiler) accord-
ing to manufacturers instruction.
A magnetic filter must be installed on return pipe of central heating installation system
(before boiler inlet). The filter must be installed in horizontal position, accordingly to flow
direction (see arrow on the filter body), with the magnetic insert chamber to the bottom.
Shall the capacity of the wet central heating installation be larger, an extra expansion vessel should be installed on it.

is too long there may occur disturbances and it may not work properly. The wires should not run close to mains
cables, they must not go around other electric wires.
Cylinder thermostat (Tzas entry) a voltage free entry. When the Tzas entry is closed, the boiler will switch
over to heat the cylinder.
Three-way valve control (ZAS) Kospel SA suggests using VCZMH600E valve manufactured by Honeywell with
a motor operator VC6012ZZ00 and a wire 45900445-013B. The three-way valve control is performed by applying
230V on the brown wire or the black wire (blue is the neutral wire). Voltage on the valve through the brown wire
will switch the valve to a position, where the pass between the AB inlet and the B outlet gets opened. Shall
voltage be passed to the black wire, the valve will get switched to a position in which the channel between the
AB inlet and the A outlet will be opened. The AB inlet and the A and B outlets are marked on the valve.
The entry A is to supply the central heating system and the entry B is to supply the cylinder as shown in fig.7
Master appliance (NA entry) you can limit the power used, i.e. the boiler can be switched off while another
appliance consumes electricity. To do it, an electrician should install in line an extra open contact in to the NA
entry (voltage free entry), so that when a master appliance gets on, the contact will be opened the boiler switched
off. When the NA contact gets opened, heating will get off and the pump stopped. The EKCO boiler may also work
as the second boiler. If it is so, the master boiler by opening the NA entry will stop heating of EKCO. However,
the mode of the three-way valve control stays on so a cylinder is charged by the heat from the master boiler.
Radio module MR there is also an option of a room thermostat that can control the boiler with a radio
signal. If this is your wish, you should install a radio module (receiver) as shown in figure 7. Next, take the aerial
out through the opening at the back of the boiler cover. After the module is installed, make sure that it works by
observing two (2) control lamps on the receiving module:
a) insert batteries into the transmitter (sender) and allow 5 minutes for synchronizing with the receiver,
b) make sure that the transmitter is within the radius of 20 m from the receiver,
c) observe the green control lamp that informs about receiving the signal, it is on for 1s at 1 minute intervals.
Incorrect work of the radio system may be caused by the following reasons:
a) too long a distance between the transmitter an the receiver, it works up to 20 m in horizontal distance and
within adjacent floors vertically,
b) batteries are not charged up,
c) improperly installed aerial, for example within the boiler,
d) damaged aerial wire.

Recommendations
We recommend the following routine maintenance in order to assure
faultless operation:
1. Do not drain the water from central heating system after the heating
season.
2. Get rid of any effluent from the central heating system and boiler
connection points.
3. Leave the controller in stand-by mode and do not cut off power supply
between the heating seasons.
4. Contact with authorised serviceman for an inspection before every
heating season.

Control panel operation
The control panel consists of two working areas: the signalling area (elements: A-K) and control area (L). The
user can select three operating modes: stand-by, winter (central heating or central heating + cylinder heating),
summer (cylinder heating).
Stand-by mode
To set the stand-by mode press and hold for 2 seconds. Note: Do not cut power supply off between heat-
ing season. When the control panel is switched to stand-by mode all indicators are off. In this mode the boiler
is off but the pump is activated every day for 15 minutes (what protects the boiler and the whole central heating
installation from being blocked and silted up). The pump will run every day at the same time, it will be the time
of the day when you switch it to the stand-by mode e.g., if you set the pump on a stand-by mode at 6 p.m.
the timer will activate the pump everyday for 15 minutes starting at around 6 p.m.
Winter mode
If you press the , button , the winter mode will be set ( when you set from stand-by to winter mode).
The medium temperature setting will appear on the LCD display. Raise and lower the temperature by pressing
buttons The temperature setting range: 40
0
to 85
0
C.
In order to ensure smooth and economic working, the temperature of the medium has to be set in accordance
with current weather conditions (outdoor temperature), taking into account parameters of the heated building (e.g.
its compactness, insulation, windowing etc.). Exemplary characteristics are shown on fig.12. Optimum settings
of the medium temperature limit running costs of the boiler.
In the winter mode (central heating + hot water cylinder heating) the three-way valve directs the water(medium)
to central heating installation or hot water cylinder coil. The priority is to heat the hot water cylinder at the same
time the central heating system is off.
If the WE-008 sensor for temperature measurement in hot water cylinder is applied (connected to the Tzas entry
on the ZIO board) pressing the button switches the controller for water temp. setting in the hot water cylinder
(indicator K is lighted). The medium temperature setting for hot water cylinder will appear on the LCD display
(J). Raise and lower the temperature by pressing .
If the thermostat for temperature measurement in hot water cylinder is applied (connected to the Tzas entry on
the ZIO board) , the temperature setting on front panel is not available. Setting is performed directly on the hot
water cylinder thermostat.
Be aware that the working parameters show approximate value only. Next pressing of let you return to
medium temp. setting mode for central heating system. Pressing of or (when you checking the parameters)
let you return to medium temp. setting for central heating system.
A B and C indicators informs about the heating stages:
User instruction manual
The boiler is preset by factory
to co-operate with a central
heating system.
The advanced settings enable
you to set the boiler to co-op-
erate with a hot water cylinder.

Indicator A is on the boiler co-operates with the hot water cylinder.
Indicator B is on - indicator informs that the pump is working
and there is a proper flow through the boiler. If the indicator flickers, it
means that there is a not sufficient flow rate or there is no flow rate at
all. It is an alarm state, which prevents the boiler from heating.
Indicator C - when green light is on the settled temperature has
been achieved
Indicator C when red light is on the boiler is operating
Indicator C - when light is off room thermostat temperature has been
achieved, the room thermostat switches the heating off.
Summer mode
If you short press the button , the summer mode will be set ( when
you set from winter to summer mode). In this mode the three-way valve
12
directs the water (medium) to the coil inside the hot water cylinder only. The summer mode should be used
after the heating season.
If the WE-008 sensor for temperature measurement in hot water cylinder is applied ( connected to the Tzas
entry on the ZIO board) pressing the button allows to set temperature.
If the thermostat for temperature measurement in hot water cylinder is applied (connected to the WZ entry on
the ZIO board) , the temperature setting on front panel is not available ( the panel shows --). Setting is performed
directly on the hot water cylinder thermostat.
In this mode the button is inactive. Checking the inlet and outlet water temp., flow rate and power is not
available. To switch to winter mode press .
