Do Do Do Do you you you you imitate somebody? imitate somebody? imitate somebody? imitate somebody?
Have you ever tried to imitate somebody? Sure, you have.
Ever since you were a baby, youve looked up to somebody. Youve
tried to learn the right way to talk, the right way to move, the right
way to act.
But now that youre
older, do you still try to
imitate anybody? A
friend? Your mother or
father? Somebody on TV
or in a movie?
Its okay, of course, to imi-
tate somebody. But you want to
make sure its the right kind of person. In todays epistle reading, Saint
Paul writes to some people who were just learning how to follow Christ.
They were making some mistakes. Saint Paul tells them that they have lots
of guides and helpers, but he is their father.
Saint Paul really looked out for these new Christians. He told them, Be
imitators of me. So who can you imitate? Well, we can always look to
Christ and the saints, right? In our church, we are always learning about
the saints. We learn not just to hear a good story. Its so we can try to imi-
tate them!
Just think of all the saints we can try to imitate! Just think of all the saints we can try to imitate! Just think of all the saints we can try to imitate! Just think of all the saints we can try to imitate!

Here is an icon of the Prophet Sam-
uel. Do you see in this icon (and the
other one on page 3) what he is hold-
ing?
Its a horn! Prophet Samuel kept oil in the
horn. Samuel was the one who anointed
the shepherd David. He poured oil on him,
making him King!

THE PROPHET SAMUEL
CALLED BY GOD
When the Prophet Samuel was a
kid, he heard a voice. Samuel was ly-
ing in bed, but he still heard, Samuel!
He jumped up and thought it was the
priest, Eli. He heard the voice again. And
a third time! Then Eli told him to say,
Speak, because your servant is listening.
God wanted Samuel to do something for
Him, and when Samuel heard the voice
again, he told God he was listening. The
Prophet Samuel went on to dedicate his life to
God. He listened to him, and he did what God wanted. He told the
people to worship only the one true God. God did not want them to
worship idols.
In our lives, we always want to be ready to hear Gods voice. You
probably wont hear your name like Samuel heard his, but when you
are close to God, and you pray to Him, you will know what God
wants from you.
Do you think you can remember what Samuel said? Speak, because
your servant is listening!
We celebrate the prophet Samuel on Wednesday, August 20th.
