PSPice Project #3

Introduction.
Before starting this project, read the frequency response of transistor circuits part of
textboo !"h. #$. In this project, %e %i&& be in'estigating !duh$ frequency response of
transistor circuits and their &i(itations. )hi&e doing the project, thin bac on *ab + and
frequency response of op,a(p- as op,a(p is (ade up of transistors, you %i&& get basic
idea of %hy it beha'ed the %ay it did.
Procedure.
In the course of this &ab, p&ease choose a ./S012 fro( PSPice &ibrary. 3se n,channe&
./S012, preferab&y one for %hich you can obtain a datasheet fro( (anufacturer. 4/
5/2 use the 6,012 %e ha'e used in *ab 78
0or the B62 transistor, use the one fro( PSPI"1 Project #9.
Part +- "S a(p&ifier.
*ay out a basic "S a(p&ifier, biased strong&y in S:23;:2I/5 region.
!;e(inder- you %i&& ha'e to set up a 4" biasing using <dd of =+> <, and :" input
circuit$. Probab&y, the best exa(p&e is 0ig. 3 of *ab 7. !re(inder- *ab 7 uses 6012, you
are using ./S012, change gate biasing according&y888$.
;un PSpice si(u&ation. 4o an :" s%eep ana&ysis to deter(ine the frequency
response. ?ou (ight need to do the si(u&ation se'era& ti(es, in order to choose
frequency range of the s%eep that %i&& sho% you a nice change in beha'ior !for exa(p&e,
running fro( @ AB to +@ AC and saying thereDs no change %i&& get no credit$.
2ae out the b&ocing capacitors, and see ho% does this change !or not$ the response.
)ith b&ocing capacitors out, connect a &arge capacitor fro( output to ground. "hangeE
"hange 'a&ue of &oad resistor !at &east 9 different 'a&ues$ and co((ent on the change !or
no changeE$.
5o%, add degeneration8 !resistor of + /h( fro( source to ground$. 4oes this change
the responseE
0ro( s(a&&,signa& (ode& and 'a&ue of interna& capacitances generated by PSpice, %hat
;" co(bination %ou&d be the &i(itingE
Part 9- Source fo&&o%er
;epeat Part + for a source,fo&&o%er a(p&ifier. !donDt %orry about degeneration,
on&y &oad resistors and re(o'ingFadding caps$.
0ro( s(a&&,signa& (ode& and 'a&ue of interna& capacitances generated by PSpice, %hat
;" co(bination %ou&d be do(inant E
Part 3- "o((on 1(itter
"onstruct "o((on,1(itter circuit !use 0ig. #.33 !a$ fro( textboo as a guide$.
:gain, generate frequency response si(u&ation at good range of frequencies.
"hange 'a&ue of &oad resistor !at &east 9 'a&ues$, in'estigate if it has any effect.
"hange the 4" biasing to change r . !do on&y one change$. Ao% does this affect
the responseE
0ro( s(a&&,signa& (ode& and 'a&ue of interna& capacitances generated by PSpice, %hat
;" co(bination %ou&d be the &i(itingE
;eport.
)hat has to be inc&uded in the report-
a$ ?our PSpice diagra( of &ayout. !on&y one for each part$.
b$ /utput fi&e !on&y one for each part, (ost&y the part about transistor para(eters$
c$ Print out of the :" s%eep ana&ysis !proper&y &abe&ed for each iteration$
d$ ?our setch of s(a&&,signa& (ode& !on&y one for each part$
e$ : paragraph or t%o !for each part$ exp&aining your understanding of the frequency
response you ha'e obser'ed, a&ong %ith ans%ers to a&& the questions abo'e.
f$ : fina& paragraph co(paring co((on source response to co((on e(itter
response.
