TO DO JUSTICE By Rev. Reginald Williams
Micah 6:8

It appears that some people are finally beginning to wake up and smell the oil.
London Mayor Ken Livingstone told BBC radio last week that Western intervention in
the “Middle East” since the end of WWI was motivated by a desire to control the flow of
oil. According to Livingstone, “Under foreign occupation and denied a right to vote,
denied the right to run your own affairs . . . I suspect that if it had happened here in
England we would have produced a lot of suicide bombers ourselves . . . But I don't just
denounce suicide bombers. I denounce those governments which use indiscriminate
slaughter to advance their foreign policy.”
The double standard spoken of by Mayor Livingstone is just another example of
what Dr. Marimba Ani calls “Rhetorical Ethic.” Rhetorical Ethic, according to Dr. Ani, is
defined as: culturally structured European hypocrisy. It is a statement framed in terms of
acceptable moral behavior towards others that is meant for rhetorical purposes only. Its
purpose is to disarm intended victims of European cultural and political imperialism. It is
meant for “export” only. It is not intended to have significance within the culture. Its
essence is its deceptive effect in the service of European power.
This rhetorical ethic empowers Bush and Blair to claim to denounce terrorism
while refusing to look in the mirror and at the Downing Street Memo to see how they
have infected the world with a virus of hate and evil. The Downing Street Memo shows
how they intentionally fixed facts and “intelligence” (or stupidity, depending on how you
view it) in order to make themselves a war, resulting in over hundreds of thousands dead
– Americans and Iraqis.
Please do not be fooled by the games these people are playing. It is no more than
rhetorical ethic.

STEWARDSHIP

STEWARD OF HOPE
The most exciting lesson on
Stewardship that I learned didn’t come from a Kujichagulia Ministry

Daily, I become more impressed with
the truth of Mark’s teaching. The world today
seems so filled with greed, cynicism, despair
and hardness of heart that the few people who
face tomorrow courageously are a light in the
darkness. I wish I could say that all of those
courageous people were Christians, but I
cannot since God chooses to do some of His
work through unbelievers. I wish I could
claim the antithesis, namely that all the
Love
Christians I have met are courageous. I
cannot, because some are a faint spark where
