EUGH[RISI
f
he Eucharist
(also
called the Holy Mass) is the ritual memorial
I of the Lord's paschal mystery
-
his passion,
death, and
resurrection through which he redeemed, saved, restored and
sanctified us. This memorial of the tord's sacriftce is celebrated
by the community of the baptized, the Church, in the form of a
ritual meal patterned
after the Lord's Supper. In the Mass, Christ
encounters us in the sacrament of his nody and Blood, in the
ritual proclamation
of Scripture, in the ministry and
person
of
the bishops, priests,
and deacons, and in each other as we
gather
as a worshipping assembly,
Because ofour baptism, we have the right and the duty to take
part in the Eucharist especially on Sundays, Sunday is the Lord's
day,the day ofthe Eucharist, and the day of the Church. With our
cooperation, the Eucharist strengthens us in our communion with
Christ and each other as a Church, in our Christian commitment,
in living our baptismal dignib/ and mission, in our loving and
selfless seryice ofcod and His people, and in our participation in
the life and mission of Christ and His Church.
